Underneath the Moonlight

School Anxiety

My mind was wondering off into space as I stood in the shower with the water running down my body. The heat of the water felt good against my skin, in sense soothing me and my thoughts. In the middle of relaxing, the back of my neck began to hurt again. I rubbed the area to once again feel the four raised bumps that permanently scarred my skin. A shot of pain went through my neck to my head, where my mind flashes back to when I was taken and held hostage by those people.

I wouldn't consider them people. They're monsters, pure monsters. I thought to myself, What kind of sick twisted minds would even think about doing that kind of torture? Especially to a fifteen year old girl??

The more I tried to not think about it, the more the memories came and pain increased. It got to the point where I was literally clutching my own head trying to keep it from exploding.

"Please... stop." I pleaded as I tried to control my memories, but they got more out of control by the second. Flashback after flashback, nightmare after nightmare... one way or another, this had to end.

"STOP!!" I let out a scream. The memories stopped but they weren't the only thing. The curtains to my shower had flown off, but they were still connected together. The shower kept running, but the water didn't hit the floor.
Instead, each and every particle of water floated around me in the air. I touched one drop of water and as it broke itself apart, it still held its form in the air. It took me a minute to realize that when I looked into the mirror above the sink, my eyes were glowing. I stepped out of the shower to get a better look as I wiped the mirror. My eyes are indeed glowing a bright purple, which only happens when I use my power... which would explain the floating water. My concentration was broken when I heard a knock at my bedroom door.

"Alaycia, is everything alright in there?" My mother's voice called out. At that moment, I let myself free of the power, which made everything go back to normal.

"Yeah, Mom. Just talking to myself, that's all." I told her through the door. I checked my eyes to make sure they went back to their normal shade.

"Alright, I just wanted to tell you that Chris said he'll be here shortly, so start getting ready." She said to me, still can hear a tint of worry out of her.

"Okay, Mom. I'll get on it." I said as I turned the shower off and began to dry myself off. I waited until I knew I heard my mother go down the stairs when I let out a breath of air, and wrapped a towel around my body.

"Pheww, that was a close one." I said to myself as I walked into my room. I went over to sit on my little chair near my desk and I put my head down in my hands. After I finished taking a few deep breaths, I looked at the barely open window on the other side of my room. I walked by and sat on my knees as I opened the window a few more inches. I looked around the area to make sure that there was no one in sight, and then turned my attention to my still dripping wet hair. In that instant, I manage to control all of the water in my hair, separate them and release the water outside, where it eventually turned into vapor.
Now with my hair completely dry, I can get back to getting dressed. Within 20 minutes or so, I was clothed down to the last detail finishing it with my cream colored beanie.

"Well, I look like a normal teenager..." I examine myself in the mirror. My hair was curled in a way I found acceptable, plus it's long and thick enough to cover the scars on my neck. I then saw my necklace on my nightstand sitting right next to my contacts. I open the small container to reveal the chocolate brown colored contacts that I used to wear. I look at the mirror and stared at my eyes.

'People have always commented on how strange my eye color is. I mean, I can't help it that I was born with Purple irisies. It's been there all my lfie, and the fact that they glow even brighter when my powers are in use doesn't really help at all. I thought to myself as I held the container in my hand while I held my neck lace in the other.

My train of thought was interrupted when I heard a knock at my door, revealiving to be Chris on the other side.

"You decent?" He said through the door. I told him I was before he opened it and saw me. "You look nice."

"Thanks."

"Mom said that breakfast is downstairs when you're good and ready to go." He told me as he opened the door even wider.

"Good, because I'm hungry." I said as I grabbed the rest of my stuff and ran down the stairwell into the kitchen. The smell of french toast waffles, scrambled eggs and bacon hit my stomach immediately as I felt it gumble inside of me. As soon as I sat down, I set up my plate and chowed down. My mouth watered instantly as a small moan escaped from my lips.

"Look like you haven't lost your appetite." Chris said behind me as he strolled through the kitchen and grabbed him some bacon.

"Are you not going to eat?" I asked him.

"I kind of ate already before I got here, but feel free to help yourself." He said as he ate a slice.

"Are your sure? You need to eat a lot to be a big and strong police officer." I joked with him and I poked him in his shoulder.

"Hey. I'm strong enough for someone of my age and size." He said to be and I can't argue with that. Chris is at the good age of 24 and I've seen him train before at the gym. Underneath that big cop coat he has on, he is muscular.

"I know. I'm just trying to make sure no one harms my beloved big brother." I laughed. "I don't want to have to kick someone's ass if I have to."

"Oh trust me, They wouldn't be able to lay a hand on me." He joked too, "Besides if they even tried, all you do is use your powers on them and they wouldn't think twice about coming back."

"Shh! I don't want Mom to hear!" I put my hand in his face.

"Don't worry, Laci. Dad left for work already and Mom had to leave to go to deal with a client. No one else is in the house besides you and me." He assured me and I relaxed a bit.

"No one else can know about... what I can do." I told Chris going back to finish my food.

"Baby sis, I'm not going to rat you out. I swear on my life." Chris said as he made an invisble 'x' over his heart with his finger.

"Good." I chugged down the last of the scambled eggs by the time that all of the food was gone. I wiped my mouth with a napkin as of which a burp followed right afterwards.

"Such a lady..." My brother sarcastically said as he grabbed some of my stuff and we both leave our parents' house. I stopped and laughed when I saw what I was going to be riding in.

"Really, Chris? A cop car?" I eyed the small black Charger that sat in the front of the driveway.

"Alaycia, I'm on duty right now, so I have to drive you in this. Now get your pretty little self in here so that I can take you to school." Chris told me as he opened the door to let me in.

"I'm not that little." I mumbled as I sat in the car and closed the door as Chris went around and started up the engine.

"How does the view look like from back there?" Chris humored me as he drove off the property.

"Well, I'm not in handcuffs and the sirens aren't going off, but it still feels weird being in the back of a police car, to be honest." I told him.

"Well...." I saw his smile turn up into a smirk in the mirror and his hand reached for the handcuffs in the glove compartment.

"You wouldn't dare."

"It would be a funny way to start off coming back to school." My brother laughed as he drove. "Just saying."

"I know it would..." I trailed off I put my headphones in my ear and turned on the music on my phone. I watched the scenery pass by through the window, and for a few seconds, I drifted away from reality...

As soon as we made it onto school grounds, a huge wave of anxiety came over me. I turned off the music on my phone and just gazed up the place that is Beacon Hills High School. It stills looks the same after all this time, then again it's a high school so nothing ever changes. Even though I was here most of my freshman year, (before I was kidnapped), this place still feels like I've never been here before.

Chris parked the car right next to the side walk on the front of the main building. He got out and opened the door on my side, but I didn't move.

"Alaycia, you can't chicken out now. This is your idea to come back here, you know." Chris noted while trying to get me out of the car.

"I know, it's just..." I scanned the parking lot, seeing all of the students all over the place, and I have no idea why but my body tensed up in more anxiety.

"C'mon, I'll make sure you get in the building in one piece." He reached out his hand to me. I hesitated but eventually took his hand as he pulled me out of the car and closed the door. As we walked on the side walk towards the door, I wrapped my arm around his and trailed closely beside him as well with my bangs covering up my eyes. I could feel him laughing as he could see how I looked right now.

"You know you have to get over your shyness one way or another, right?" He said to me. I just ignored him as we kepting walking. In just a few feet in front of us, there was what seemed like a homeless man going through one of the garbage cans. As we got closer, I got a hold of his scent, and I could tell that there was something really off. He didn't smell like that of a human, but that of a werewolf.

As soon as I figured it out, my grasp on Chris tightened and I buried my face into his arm. Chris could sense my fear as let go but wrapped his arm securely around me as we pass by the man. I know that the guy could smell me too as I saw his head cock towards my direction as he rumaged through the garbage. I made Chris walk faster as we went up the stairs. All of us stop when we heard the sound of a roaring car engine. My eyes followed to where the sound came from and it belonged to a small silver Porsche.

'There's only one person here who can even drive that annoying piece of scrap metal.' I thought to myself as I saw the owner step out of the vehicle.

"Well, Jackson Whittemore surely knows how to make an appearance anywhere." Chris said to me and I scuffed as I shook my head. I watched as I saw Jackson give the homeless man a dollar, which seemed odd of him.... Then he snapped in Chris' direction and yelled 'Security!' and point to the man.

"Figures." I spat out as Jackson made it up the stairs towards us. I walked into the building before he could even really see me. It's not like I'm shy around him or anything; I just don't like Jackson period. His cockiness annoys the hell out of me, ever since we were little.

I waited for Chris to come inside so that we can get me registered.

"He sure is something." Chris said as he came in with a semi- annoyed look on his face, but not as bad as mine.

"Did he see me?"

"No, pretty boy said he had a early Lacrosse meeting and went off towards the gm area." He informed me as he led me to where the principle's office is. "Just let me get your paperwork and then I'll be right out, okay? You can sit out here if you want."

As he went inside the office, I sat down in one of the chairs right outside it. My fingers fiddled with my necklace as I waited. I took deep breaths to try and calm myself of my sudden anxiety, but it didn't work out so well. As I gazed upon the many of students that walked past me, my memory pulled me back to when I was back in school.
But these weren't good images.
They pulled me back to the times where my classmates would bully me, call me a freak because of my eye color, and that when ever something really weird happened, I was always blamed for it. I couldn't help what I am, but they didn't know that.

I placed my head in between my knees and wrapped my arms around them so that I could concentrate on blocking the horrid images. I had to or else I would have another episode like I did earlier this morning, and I didn't want that to happen.

"Manere tranquillitas. Manere tranquillitas..." I chanted to myself quietly, resorting to have to use my powers. As long as no one can see my eyes, I should be fine. It took me a few more minutes until I could actually feel my body loosen up a bit and sit normally. I opened my eyes when I stopped the incantation and checked on my phone screen to see how they looked. The color had darkened back to its normal shade and I felt a little bit relieved.

"I really need to have more control over this, because it's getting ridiculous." I placed to my face into my hands and stayed in that position so that I could relax more. It worked for a while until a few seconds later, the school rang loudly in my ears. The sound of it caught me off guard as I jumped a little bit. It stopped and just as it did, Chris came out of the room as well as another officer. The man looked around my brother's age, maybe even older. I examined his tannish toned skin, short dirty brown hair, vivid hazel eyes and his over 6' foot height.

Chris turned to me. "Alaycia, this is Tom Baker, one of the recent campus police here at school. He, along with the others are the ones who will keep an eye out for you while you attend classes."

I looked up at the man as he gave me a heartwarming smile and extended his hand to me. I let out a small smile as I shook his hand in return.

"I would love to take you to class, but I have to leave to get back to the station." Chris told me with an apologetic look on my face. "I'll be back later to come pick you up when school is done, okay?"

I nodded my head okay as I gave him a hug goodbye. He hugged me back as he kissed my forehead. "Make sure you stay out of trouble, little sister. Love you."

"Love you too." I said as I watched him walk out of the building, which left me alone with the officer in the hallway.

"Seeing as I will be your escort at the moment, would you like me to show you to your first period class, Miss?" Officer Baker asked me kindly as I gave him my schedule. His eyes scanned the info on the paper, and then handed it back to me. "Your first period is in the Science building. If you will follow me, I can show you where it is."

"Thank you." My voice came out as a hushed low sound as I followed the cop down the hall. The halls are quiet since classes just started. The silence kind of bothered me a bit for some odd reason. As we went up the stairs to the second floor, Officer Baker broke the awkward silence.

"Are you nervous about being back in school?"

I cleared my throat. "You can say that."

I heard a low laugh escape from him. "It's normal for kids to come back to school feeling that way. From what I've heard from your brother, I can somewhat understand the conditions that he set for us. And don't worry, Miss Williams, if you have any trouble at all, and I mean any, just contact me or one of the other officers here on campus."

"Thank you." I simply told him.

"No worries. It's our job." He informed me as we stopped at a class room door and knocked. A teacher opened the door and the cop explained why we were here.

"Have a nice day, Miss." The officer said as he left my presence. The teacher let me come inside the classroom and offered to see my transcript and schedule. As I handed the papers to him and he took them, he gave me this really weird stare, as if he was carefully examining me. It kinda creeped me out a bit as I automatically took a step back and my eyes went into a different direction.

"Well, Miss Williams, how fortunate enough for you to be placed in my class." He said in a sarcastic voice, as if he didn't sound too thrilled to have a new student. "My name is Mr. Harris, your ever so loving Chemistry teacher. Just take a seat somewhere and we will have you settled right in."

I still felt uneasy by him as I found a seat near the very back of the room. The class seemed unusually half empty for a Chem class, but that broke when a few more students came into the classroom. I recognized all of them as they came in: Danny Mahealani, Jackson Whittemore (ughh, why?), and last but not least, Stiles Stilinski and Scott McCall. I haven't seen those two since they rescued me from the woods that night. I could feel my anxiety slightly come back as I recalled that Scott is indeed fact a werewolf, but I kept it under control.
I watched as all of them came down the aisle talking about something, and then all of their eyes, one by one, looked at me. They stood there in their spots as they looked at me in shock.

'I guess they do remember me after a whole year of being missing.' I thought to myself as I gave a small shy smile and waved my hand at them.

"You boys can gawk at the new girl later, but right now take your seats." Mr. Harris exclaimed at them coldly in addition to embarrassing me in the process. They took their seats as Mr. Harris began to start teaching class. His teaching seemed kind of intense, but I figure that I could handle it. In the middle class, he handed everyone a pop quiz, including yours truly. Even though I'm new, Mr. Harris still wanted me to take the quiz to quote, 'Test out my abilities to actually learn'. I took that as a small insult but I brushed it off, seeing how when I looked at the questions, they seemed surprisingly easy.

As we took the pop quiz, I heard a conversation coming from beside me. I can tell that the voices came from Stiles and Scott. My ears tried to pick up what they were talking about, but Mr. Harris interrupted them. He then threatened to give Stiles detention for the rest of his high school career, which seemed not even remotely possible. Stiles commented back and then Harris insulted him again, resulting as Stiles getting detention today. Poor guy, always getting into trouble.

We went back to the quiz when just a few seconds later, I heard Danny say something behind, and then all of a sudden Jackson just up and ran out of the classroom covering his nose. I felt something wet on my arm as I looked and there was a strange drop of black liquid on the tip of my elbow. I touched the weird liquid with my finger and examined it carefully. Without using my abilities, I could tell instantly that it was blood, but not normal blood. I saw that there were two more drops on the floor from where Jackson had stormed out.

'Okay, what the hell is wrong with Jackson?' I thought to myself, as I went back to finishing the quiz. 'And why is he bleeding strange black blood?'
