The Hunger Games: Mine: Chapter One

Chapter one:

"What does it matter?" I asked my mother.

"It sure does matter." She says to me.

"It's the Hunger Games! Why should I even care about them?"

"Because...hmm....there are twenty four tributes and only one comes out!!"

Yes,I know. My name is Loren Cohan, and I live in district two. I've always

been very sensitive about the Hunger Games, but my Dad hasn't. He wants

me to go in, but my Mother is different. The reason I'm not making a huge

deal about it is because my Dad doesn't think anything of me. I really want

him to, but he doesn't. It's honestly not fair. Maddilyn, my older sister, is 19.

She didn't get picked, and now my Dad has been all on me about getting

my name in there more. I don't understand why he wants me to die, well

I guess he thinks I'll win. I don't know. But now I'm seventeen, my Dad has

been laying off of me a bit, and looking at my younger sister. Her name is

Isile, and she's totally brutal. She's been waiting for the Hunger Games -

well to get reaped. But she's been training like crazy. And now, since she's

finally twelve, she's ready. She knows we - except for my Dad and Maddilyn -

don't want her to go in. But we do know that she's been working on getting her

name in there.

The reaping was packed. Everyone fit tight together, eager to see if they were

going to be picked. "What's wrong, Loren?" My best friend, Corey, said to me.

I sighed. "It's the Hunger Games, I really don't want me nor my family in it,"

"Well, hope for me to get in!" She said.

"Welcome...."Acrostica said to the crowd of District Two. "We shall see who

is going to be in The Hunger Games - ladies first!" I looked at Isile's eager face,

my dad's face, my mom's face. Acrostica reached into the bowl, and pulled out a

name. My stomach jumped as she opened it.

And just to add more to my horror, the name was called. "Loren Cohan!"

I tried to walk confidently, but it really wasn't a use. No one dared to volunteer.

"And...." She reached into the bowl and picked out a name. "Aclo Burnty!"

If it hadn't been for him, I would have started screaming. That's my best friend's

Corey's brother! I don't know how she'll feel, because she likes the Hunger Games.

"Thank you for your consideration....and" - she seemed to think - "You cannot visit

your child because of strict Capitol laws...and thank you very much." She dragged

us to the Justice hall, and we were ready to go....or at least I think so.

"Don't be like that, Alco," Acrostica said to Alco. He glared at her, and she scowled.

I didn't know what he was doing....or if she just didn't like him at all because he's

a pretty bad prankster. That's more of the issue. In my neighborhood, he's the

prankster. If he died, there really wouldn't be anything to do around my neighborhood,

and we'd be very arrogant about it.

District two is more of the feared tributes. Not in my belief, because most of them were

just stubborn. It's not like they'd be evil in the Hunger Games. But I feel like if I don't

come out as fierce, no one will like me, or it'll be very strange for the audience. I

don't think there will be a bad problem like this for Alco.I said he was a prankster

and he's also dangerous. Since he's pretty small, he's more agile than some in

the neighborhood, which makes it hard to catch him and his pranks. But, I've never

thought I'd ever compare that to the Hunger Games. Is he a threat? Is he ally-worth?

I've never thought about that. He plays pranks; so would that mean he would do

those type things in The Hunger Games? He's a good hider, Iknow that. So will

that mean he'll hide to kill? Will it mean he will just hide and try to outlast

everyone? I don't know and this is bothering me. He's defiantly a threat, I can tell

you that much now.

"Your mentor is here!"

I looked over, and I saw a girl, about twenty, with long dark hair that was beautiful,

and it fell down perfectly. She smiled at us, with that grin that was untrustful.

"Hello," She said to us.

"Sadora Clemcots?" Alco asked her.

"Yes, and I'm your mentor!!" She seemed excited to "teach" us, but I didn't trust her

myself.

"You two must be sooo excited!" She said to us again.

"Yes, I am!" Alco said with a jump of glee. "I've been waiting for this for so long,

Sadora!"

"Wonderful. If you would like me to give you advice, I can."

I spoke up. I knew we needed advice, and I couldn't turn this down, especially

the time before the Hunger Games. "Yes, could you give us some?"

She smiled at me. "This is the most important piece of advice, because it'll give

you lots of confidence and power, and it'll represent our district with great pride,

so you guys have to promise to do what I say."

"I promise." We say to her. I don't completely know if she's going to lecture us,

or give a simple piece of advice, but it really doesn't matter at this point, I just

want the advice.

"You must" - She paused in a annoying dramatic way - "Kill your way through,

it's the only way to."

She was joking, and I was sure. But I spentthat night wondering.

If she knew that she wasted my night, she'd probably not say that.

But now I don't know what to do.

And it's because of her.
