He sees that she is sleeping, facing the back wall.

“Callie,” he calls shivering by the entrance. “I’m sorry Callie.”

She doesn’t respond.

“I said dammit I’m sorry!” he yells, his voice echoing off the walls. “But why didn’t you tell me before…” he adds with a whisper.

She still doesn’t reply. He stares for a moment, utterly lost.

“CALLIE!” He screams, suddenly overwhelmed by grief.

He runs to her sleeping body and turns her over, staring into her glassy pearls, crying into them.

“I shouldn’t have let go,” he murmurs gripping her wrists tight, “I shouldn’t have…”

She lies still, her face completely blank, emotionless, dead.

“I’m sorry,” he cries, “I’m so so sorry.” He hugs her limp body, kissing the places where the rocks cut her deep.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry…” he continues on into the night.
