He sighs as the sun begins to set. The beach is colder now. His eyes marvel at how her skin is still smooth despite the chill winds, smooth and goose bump free unlike his. Smooth and pale in the moonlight.

The tide is coming in fast. He still lies on his back as the first little gentle throws tickle his feet.

She is still smiling at him, her pearly eyes never leaving his.

The waves reach his knees now and her ankles. It is time to leave.

He slowly stretches himself, before stooping down and lifting her up into his arms. She doesn’t complain this time the way she usually did, but her arm just hangs loosely around his neck, her head pressed into his shoulder.

And so he carries her back up the beach until they reach the cave.
