The Wait is Over.

Hanna fluttered around the room in her bubblegum pink, taffeta dress. Once again, Hanna found herself in the coveted position of maid of honor. Her fingers moved rapidly as she gathered the bouquets for the bride and the other bridesmaids. She took a deep breath and settled into a red armchair in the corner of the room.

As cliché as it was, the old saying was true. “Always a bridesmaid, never a bride.” Hanna had stood beside many of her friends as they moved into the next phase of their life with their other half. As joyous as she was for them, deep down, Hanna couldn’t help but be bitter.

Soon enough the wedding was happening and Hanna stood next to her best friend Lila as she said her vows, gazing into the eyes of Brandon, her charming fiancé. Hanna took it all in, looking at the love in their eyes. She couldn’t help but feel a pang of jealousy in her stomach. She bit her lip to remind herself of the words everyone kept telling her. “Good things come to those that wait.”

Before she knew it, the wedding was over and the reception was in full swing. Hanna moved through the crowd of people on the dance floor, greeting and socializing every now and then. She danced with Lila and Brandon, laughing and grinning all along.

Hanna partied and celebrated; trying to forget that fact the she was alone once again. She eventually made her way over to the bar, lifting her dress so she could sit on the stool. She stared down at her hands and spoke softly. “Malibu and pineapple, please.” The bartender mixed the cocktail and placed the glass in front of her, his hand still grasping the beverage.

Hanna looked up and met his green eyes, heat filling her cheeks. The bartender smiled and let out a light chuckle. “Ian.” Hanna smiled and looked down once more.

“I’m Hanna.”

Ian laughed and grinned down at Hanna affectionately. “Well Hanna, what’s a pretty bridesmaid like you doing alone at the bar? Surely there’s a groomsman that would love to dance with you.” Hanna chuckled and shook her head.

“Nope, I’m alone.” Ian shrugged his shoulders and stared deeply into her hazel eyes.

“What a shame.” Hanna nodded and heard commotion on the dance floor, indicating the bouquet was about to be tossed. She turned to Ian and bit her lip.

“Well, I better get back.” Ian nodded as he cleaned the glasses in front of him.

“Hey, Hanna?” She turned around and waited for him to speak. “Are you doing anything later?” She shook her head and smiled, as Ian grinned in return.

She walked to the dance floor just as Lila threw her arms back, sending the bouquet flying in the air. The flowery bundle landed right in Hanna’s arms and cheers erupted. Hanna smiled and laughed, looking over at the bar. Ian grinned back and nodded. The wait was over.
