We're Complete Opposites But I Still Love You

Daddy?

My life came crumbling down when my father died.
I found him on the bathroom floor.
He died of a massive heart attack at the age of 47.
My mother left us for another man when I was ten.
She never loved me because I reminded her of dad too much.

I walked up to his casket at the funeral.
There were so many people here that I didn't know.
Many of his partners from his war days.
I laid a single pink rose in his casket along with a picture of us.
It was his favorite picture.
As I looked at him a tear made its way down my face.
I said my goodbyes and left.
I went and sat outside of the church on the curb.
I looked out at the scenery, the fields of sunflowers ahead.
Dad always loved to take me to them and have a picnic.
Mom never came to pay her respects, if she had any that is.
I felt someone sit by me so I looked to my right and noticed I didn’t know this mystery man, I never met him before.
"Your father was a good man, Teal."
"I know, sorry for asking but who are you?"
"I am your god father. Your father wrote in his will that I gain custody of you until you turn eighteen."
"Oh."
"I'm Sam."
"You already know my name."
He chuckled.
"Yes, that I do. I have a son but he didn't come, he had football practice."
I nodded.
"What school does he go to?"
"Stanford High."
"What's his name?"
"Jason Sands."
My eyes widened.
Jason fucking Sands?!
The guy who made school hell is now also going to make home a living hell.
Great, just fucking great.
"You know him?"
"Yes..."
"Well good. Means we don’t have to have introductions or anything."

I slightly smiled.
After a few minutes of a comfortable silence he stood up.

"We should probably get going. Have to get your things and bring them to my house."

I got up and followed him to his car.
This is going to be a long six months until my eighteenth.
Hopefully it comes fast..
