Roads That Lead Away from This

"You okay?" Pete called, his arms reaching out to catch his friend's pack as it was tossed to him.

Will looked around, drinking in the skyline before shrugging. "As okay as I can be, I guess," he replied.

Pete watched with blank eyes as his friend surveyed the rocks, then leapt onto the one next to him. When he tossed the pack back across, Will tilted his head to the side thoughtfully.

"I'm still running, aren't I?" he questioned.

Pete stared back silently, then nodded. "It's what you're best at," he supplied.

Will shrugged once more, then motioned to the rest of the rocks in front of them. "We can psychoanalyze over dinner. Come on," he urged.

Pete rolled his eyes and leapt onto the next piece of the path.
