Animus

“Why do you hate me so much?” Magneto questioned as I still resented talking to him, the bastard didn’t deserve it really. “It’s not like I’m forcing you to stay here!” He sighed, throwing up his arms in anger as words still didn’t come out of my mouth.

Although the last thing he said forced my hand and I couldn’t help but yell out “but of course! It’s not like if I leave you’ll abduct my sister and make her become your god damn slave!” I turned and pointed my finger in his face.

He let out another sigh and rolled his eyes, aggravating me further with his sass, “for the greater good!” He defended, trying to yell louder than me. My mouth fell open, surprised by his answer. Did he hear himself? None of this was any sort of good. This was war, this was a blood bath. While he kills other humans, family and friends morn over the loss of their beloved, the beloved who we killed with the misuse of our powers. “For the Mutants.” He added, confidence lacing his voice.

“How is forcing my sister in to a life of blood for her greater good? All she wants is a normal life, where she can love and laugh, being happy! Not cry every night because it was her hands that destroyed another person’s life!” It seemed I matched his confidence; I stood tall with my hands balled as fists at my side, ready to punch him in the face for his dishonour against me and my sister.

“All I am doing, Animus, is saving her from the past you had.” My hand slapped the right side of his face, an instinct I had formed as a constitute for what I use to do. He couldn’t have known about my past, I’d done everything to prevent people from finding it out. “She is related to you, and as such, she is as powerful as you.”
Those words stung in my heart, the memories of what had happened finally coming out from the dark corner of my mind in which I had pushed them to stay.

I was sat with my two friends at the time; we were in a field ingesting alcohol. As much as we could after the not-so-fun week at school. Sure it was illegal but we were teenagers, anything along the lines of rebelling was practically just an invitation. “Shit,” Annabel spoke up, “I need a pee.” She got up and placed the bottle on the ground, running towards a bush that outlined the large field.

I was not left alone with Aaron, a sweet and shy boy. He may not talk a lot but he was the most intelligent person I had ever met, he had a lot going for himself. The silence was killing me; not talking was always a big challenge for me. “Ya’ know Aaron, I reckon I’m psychic.” I spoke up, drunk of my ass and not even bothering to protect my shameful secret.

He burst out in to laughter, “what?!” He fell over and began to roll on the ground, his drunk-ness made the sentence way funnier than it actually was. If I was sober, I would have understood that because of him being the biggest science nerd in the world, he obviously wouldn’t believe a word I said about any of this stuff. That I had special powers that allowed me to control a person’s mind in any way I wished.

“I’m being serious!” I pouted slightly, feeling mocked by my best friend. “See, I’ll show you!” In all truth, at that moment in time I had absolutely no clue what the hell I was meant to do with my powers, so this was probably really stupid and dangerous. But, hell, that’s what Teenagers do right? Well, I was about to find out that I am no longer a teenager, let alone human.

I put down my own alcoholic beverage and moved towards him, putting both my hands around his head. ”Can you hear me?” I spoke through my mind, the voice much more understandable then the muddled words I would pronounce because of my drunken-ness.

“HOLY SHIT!” He yelled out, eyes widening as he heard the echo of my voice inside my mind. Mumbled questions quickly escaped his mouth, none of them that I could understand, except the last one, “can you do anything else?” Of course I didn’t want to say no, it felt nice having someone be amazed by my power and not freaked out.

I kept my hands pressed against his head, not exactly knowing what I was doing. I found something in his mind though, a light inside his mind, a spark. I began to play with it, mould it, make it bright and then make it darker. It was like play dough. As I messed around with it longer I was pushed in to a world of daydream, forgetting that this was something inside a person’s mind.

“H-Holly, s-STOP!” I heard his voice break through my trance, I opened my eyes and saw a pale and drained copy of what use to be Aaron, veins were popping out of his skin and his lungs seemed to be gasping for air. I tried to repair the light inside his mind; instead I made it worse and soon enough the light disappeared. And in my arms laid nothing. Sparkles fell from the sky, his life force fell on to the field and forced the grass to grow longer.

“Holly?” I turned my head quickly to see Annabel stood in horror at what she had just seen.

She would tell someone, she would speak of my preposterous abilities and everyone would see me differently, I’d be even more of a freak then people already think I am. I had to stop her, I didn’t even think about it. As soon as she turned to leave, I raised my hand against my own head, and she was then trapped in the same fate that Aaron went through. Her body exploded in to dust, the area her body was sprayed on beginning to grow with greenery.
I’d just killed my only friends. I’m a monster.

“She isn’t me though.” I spoke, the once strong confidence soon disappearing at the foul memories.

“But she shares your blood.” His hand came up and pressed against my skin, his palm was cool, the kind of cold you would feel on a piece of metal that had been plunged in a freezer for days. “I told you that I wouldn’t harm your sister, and I shall stick to my word. “ He moved closer now eyes moving from my eyes to my lips back to my eyes.

I don’t know what it was about him, but he had always had me transfixed since we met. And as a consequence of my unknown feelings towards the mildly attractive metal bender, I allowed him to connect our lips. I won’t lie to you, there were sparks, a shiver ran down my spine in both fear and pleasure.

It didn’t last as long as I would have hoped, as soon as his hands attached themselves to my waist the door opened and in stepped mystique, a rather demeaning look on her face. “Magneto, there has been a development.”
