The Kids From Yesterday

Zack's Gift

September 20th

The next day I slept in pretty late and Nick must've gotten up already, but when I awoke I had the best feeling ever; knowing that I was engaged. I honestly thought that music should start up and a flash mob would come into the room singing and dancing, something like My Best Friend's Wedding.

I got out of bed and went into the kitchen where Wills and Em were sitting, talking and laughing over coffee. "Where's Nick?" I asked.

"Hey there Miss engaged-sister-of-mine." William grinned, "He said he'd be right back, he went to pick up Fab and Albert to bring 'em over."

"Oh, alright." I nodded, sitting down next to Emily.

"Here." Emily pushed a shoebox across the counter in front of me.

"What's this?" I asked, intrigued by the way it was simply tied with a ribbon.

"Zacky said to give this to you, it's your birthday gift from him." She smiled.

I smiled, "Oh yeah! I forgot, he said he had something for me." I unwrapped the ribbon and took the lid off. I couldn't help but smile as I saw all the little things inside.

I lifted up a cd by The Cranberries and found an old framed picture of me, Zack, and Wills when were were younger, I must've been 16 in the picture; It was the three of us crammed into a photo booth at the mall. I couldn't help but laugh at the silly faces we made.

Also in the box there were Mike & Ikes, the candy we used to eat like it was its own food group. This box was filled with things of our past, things I had forgotten about. This was the sweetest gesture that anyone's made in a long time.

"This is so sweet." I softly smiled. "I should thank him. Do you have his number?"

William took his phone from his pocket and scrolled through the contacts. He gave me Zack's number and as I dialled it on my phone, I left the room for some privacy, taking the box back to my room.

"Hello?" He answered.

"Hey, Zack it's me, Isla." I smiled.

"Hey, Isla, how's it going?" He asked. I could feel his smiled through the phone.

"I'm great, I just got your gift now and I wanted to thank you." I grinned, looking through the contents again. "I love it, everything is so sweet."

"Oh you're welcome, I just thought you know, it'd be nice to kinda put things together from when we were kids. You know, since we've been reunited again." He replied.

I smiled softly, biting my lip. "I really do love it."

For a moment there was a silence, but I heard him take a deep breath and then clear his throat. "Hey, do you think we could um, like I don't know, hang out sometime? You know, maybe over coffee or tea or something, just to talk or hang out?"

I heard the front door open and Nick and Fab singing "Don't Stop Believing" while Albert laughed at them.

I cleared my throat, "Um, yeah sure, probably not today, the guys just got here and we're gonna be hanging out tonight most likely. But you have my number now, so you can text me if you want."

"Yeah for sure, whenever you have time." He replied.

"Okay cool, anyway I have to go, the guys just got in. We'll text or something later, alright?"

"Okay."

"Alright, bye." I hung up the phone and tossed it on the bed, going into the other room.

"Fab, Albert!" I grinned. I hugged Albert from behind, tightly before Fab ran up to me and wrapped his arms around me hugging me.

"We're spending the day together!" Fab yelled.

"Yay!" I chuckled. After he let me go I went to give Nick a kiss.

"Hello my love, how are you this afternoon?" He smiled.

"Afternoon? What time is it?" I asked.

Albert checked his watch, "12:30."

"I had no idea!" I laughed.

"Let's go out for lunch then." Fab suggested.

"Sure, but I'm gonna take a quick shower first, I'll be back." I said, going to the bedroom. As I picked out clothes to change into afterwards, I couldn't help but smile as I looked at the box on my bed. I bit my lip and decided I wouldn't show Nick, at least right away, so I took it and put it in the dresser drawer before going to the bathroom.
