The Flame

Flickering flame

The flame flickered in her gaze, struggling against the wind. To her, the flame was like her brother, reliable and steady, yet struggling to exist. He was protective, but he was able to hurt you, if you got too close to him, like the flame. Suddenly, a large gust of wind rushed past her, and the flame was gone, leaving only a bare match in its place. Like her brother, the flame was gone. And like her brother’s bones, the match was the only thing remaining. The girl shivered. For the flame was gone, and, with it, the warmth.
