Forgive Me

DayCare

"Mommy?" Eli asked once he finished breakfast.
"Yes, baby?"
"What are we doing today?"
"Well, I have to work. You're going to daycare first."
"Awh, why can't daddy watch me?"

I thought about this.
Leave your child with his father who you dont trust OR leave your child with the daycare you've been sending him to ever since his was six months old.
DAYCARE IT IS!

"Because he has to work too."
"Oh..."
"Now go get dressed."

He got down from the chair and went to his room.

"Why can't I watch him?"

I looked at Brent.

"I have to gain your trust. For all I know I could come home and you'd both either be gone, dead, or the apartment is on fire. I'm not taking the risk."
"Fair enough. But if you gain my trust?"
"We'll talk when the time comes."

He nodded as I put the dishes in the sink.

"Do you work?" I asked.
"Yeah. I make money making music."
"Like you have a signed record company?"
"Yeah. I have my own band."
"Oh. What type of music?"
"A mixture of rock and acoustic."
"Whats the band's name?"
"Trailing The Freedom Behind Me."
"Sounds pretty awesome."
"It is."

A few minutes later Eli walked out with his backpack.

"Ready?" I asked.
"Yeah."
"Say goodbye to daddy."

He dropped his bag and ran to him jumping into his open arms.
This always killed me.
I felt like I was breaking Eli's heart because I wasn't giving in.
But i'm doing it for Eli's sake. And mine.
After I got Eli in the car I hugged Brent.

"Drive safe." He said.

I smiled to myself.

"Don't worry. You want to come over for dinner later? It would make Elijah's day."
"Of course."

He kissed my cheek before leaving.
I blushed a little getting into the car.

"Ready for daycare?"
"Yea so I can see Cam Cam!"

I lightly lauhed at his nickname for his friend Cameron.

I hope i'm doing the right thing by gaining Brent's trust....
