Sinister Eyes

The Unexpected Situation

We all gazed at the descending planes. I stood calmly by Elaine who seemed to finally relax after what had happened. A nightmare that will sink deep within us and release it's dark poison to slowly kill us.

As soon as the plane landed successfully on the ground the doors immediately opened. Several guards piled out while Cedric, Head Leader of Velencity, stepped out. Every guard that stepped out from the three large planes they immediately scanned the area while others examined the injured bodies on the floor.

I turned my eyes towards Cedric who walked on over to us. Dark blue eyes looked us up and down as the owner of it's wrinkled face came closer with each step. I could feel the pit in my stomach with memories flooding. The last time I had seen Cedric was the time Anna was murdered.

"Hello, Mr. Black Cross." Saying as he stood a few feet from us.

My face went to a glare of anger but quickly faded away to an empty expression. "I'd prefer if you didn't call me by that nickname." Replying with my hand slightly touching the tattoo on my neck.

His face just stayed the same: An unpleasant expression that was not happy to see me. Two guards were behind him. They probably thought 'Black Cross' will try and do something apparently. Which I wouldn't mind actually. Seeing his face was the last thing I wanna see right now.

"So what are you here for?" Keren asked. She stepped forward to get closer to us however a guard held a hand up, forbidding her to go any further.

Cedric inhaled deeply, a sign that wasn't good. "I'm pretty sure you guys should know why. We're here for one reason only and that reason is two people infiltrated this forest."

"Those two people wearing black?"

"Correct," saying with the slight turn of his head to observe me, "And we are immediately evacuating everyone in the forest. All our hidden cams were knocked off the system, just like the same day the murder of Anna occurred."

My breath escaped my throat as Elaine did the same. We had no idea the hidden cams in the Velencity Headquarters were knocked off the day Anna was killed. Her memory of death sent a deep chilling under the back of my neck. No one deserved to die like that, no one.

"Then why are you here?" I asked.

Cedric gave a simple smile. "To find you."

"Us?" Elaine replied before I could.

"Not exactly you but him."

I rose an eyebrow. Of all people why would he need me? "Are you planning to take me in for questioning again?"

He turned his back on me and pointed to Elrick and his friends. "Take these guys immediately to the Recovery Building. The dead body will sadly be taken back to base to be examined."

"Are you gonna answer him?" Syrus asked impatiently.

He turned his head to look over to Syrus, then back to me. "We will in fact question you a bit however you will not be the only one. The others who went through this horrific event will be questioned as well. However, aside from that, you will be given a special job."

I couldn't help but tilt my head to the side. A special job? For what and why exactly? "What is this job you need me to do?"

"It's very important to our whole Velencity Faction and everyone else in this war. If this succeeds we will turn the tides against the Elthian military and succeed the goal Velency himself wanted. This project was designed for your father before he decided to leave on his mission."

It was like a spark ignited inside me. "My father? What exactly is gonna happen?"

Cedric turned around once again and walked over to his plane. "You will find out soon enough, Rayson, or should I say, Black Cross."

My face was now a mix of anger and confusion. "Cedric!" I yelled, trying to take off after him however before I could go any further two guards had already had their hands on my shoulders, holding me steady.

The old man gotten on the plane with several guards following him. I could finally feel my body relax as soon as he left. Something wasn't right here though. How was this project related to my father? What was gonna happen when I go through whatever special thing Cedric wanted? Who were those two people? Thoughts clouded my mind like a river overflowing.

"Rayson, let's get on the plane. The guards are waiting for us to get in." Elaine said, her hand tugging at my shoulder.

"Oh right."

All four of us were escorted to one of the planes. Elrick and his friends who were injured were escorted to another plane, the dead body to another. Even the thought of Elrick screaming in pain made us all twitch.

It wasn't long before we came back to our destination. Home. A place with food, water and most importantly, a bed. Upon landing we came across a large platform for any airborne machine to land. The landing was quite soft and gentle.

The second we got off the plane we were surrounded by large crowds of people running around. It was like walking into a swarm of busy adults and teens. The sun was barely coming up, setting a nice glint of it's warm light.

"Rayson!" A voice yelled. Ally.

I turned to see her and Caro jogging their way towards us. As she neared I embraced myself for a tight hug, feeling the air being pushed out from my body.

"I missed you so much!" She yelled while squeezing the shit out of me.

"It's only been a day and your squeezing the crap out of me!"

"You look so beat up! What happened? Oh my poor little Rayson got hurt!"

"Aww my babe got hurt?" Caro chuckled.

I couldn't help but give a smile. "Yeah I did. You should come kiss my cuts."

We all giggled a bit. It was nice seeing Ally and Caro again all in one piece. I wasn't all to sure if they would survive or not knowing certain people in this world craved blood. Exhaustion seemed to wipe down on the majority of us. Some even mourned, losing a loved one during the test. It wasn't a test, it was hell, a place where life and death are rolled on a dice to decide your fate.

"So does anyone know what happened?" Ally asked, walking with us back to our dorms where we were instructed to do immediately.

All four of us who had experienced that insane experience looked away. None of us wanted to think about it, a nightmare that continues to seep into our mind. With no one talking I decided to give in.

"Okay, this is what happened."

I explained the entire situation. From how Elrick jumped us to how those two mysterious figures escaped.

"Are you serious?" Caro said wearily. He shook his head while Ally just looked to the floor.

"Yes. After what happened was when Cedric and his guards came."

Nearing our dorms we all stopped and hid behind a few large can of dumpsters. All six of us gazed down on the floor, trying to get the pieces together.

"I heard rumors going around that they were actually planning to burn down the forest." Ally quietly whispered. She stared at my expression, not sure if she regretted saying it but even the thought frightened her.

Fire. Something that haunted us both. An incident we never wanted to think about. However the death of Aidan changed us, helping us see a more brighter sky than how everybody thought killing a life is significant to this war.

"They can't do that, it'll danger all the wildlife out there." Keren replied.

"That's true but it just seems like rumors. I'm not exactly sure they would do that."

Caro looked over the dumpsters, making sure no one was around. Seeing that it was clear he looked back to us with his amber glowing eyes. "Cedric said he was gonna talk to you guys about what happened right?"

We all nodded.

"He also said about a special job for you Rayson correct?"

"Yeah, where are you going with this?"

His eyes stared down into mine. I was confused with his emotions. In his eyes I wasn't sure if I was looking deep into a ball of worry or sadness.

"Well what if these two things are related to you somehow?"

We all stared at him in confusion. We'll all admit that Caro is a strong, charming, and well developed overall guy but he must have gone crazy during that test in the forest.

"I don't think it'd be related to him," replied Elaine, "but he did say something about it being involved with your dad once."

"Your dad?" Ally asked.

"Guys, we need to leave. Security is going around and making sure everyone is in bed." Caro said, ducking down quickly.

Syrus put his hand on my shoulder. "I'm sure everything will be fine dude. For now we need to leave."

I just nodded. Syrus, Keren and Caro quietly and quickly left, heading back to their dorms. Elaine did the same, taking a quick look at me before leaving. Ally walked up to me, not looking at my face.

"Do you think you will be okay?"

It took a few moments for me to speak. "Yeah. I'll be fine."

"You sure?"

"Positive."

She slowly nodded. She didn't look at me. She started walking, passing me and heading back to her dorm. I stood still however, gazing down on the floor. I wasn't exactly sure if I was fine or not. I felt...conflicted inside my body. A battle of confusion and agony. I just took a deep breathe, turning around and leaving the area, heading back to what was suppose to feel like home.
