What Lies Within

The Big News

Sophie sat at the large wooden table that filled the small space of the Weasley's kitchen. In front of her was a cup of tea prepared for her by Mrs. Weasley but she hadn't touched it. She didn't think she could stomach it right now so she instead just focused on the steam rising above it, watching them swirl and twist together. What would happen next? Would Draco come to her soon? Had he even read the note yet? She had no idea how long it would take for him to get home. Her mind was racing with all the questions but needed to keep calm. She needed to figure out what was going to happen next and what she would do from here.

Just as Mrs. Weasley opened her mouth to say something, filled with concern for the girl across from her, the sensor letting them know that someone was approaching the protection barrier went off. It wasn't family or someone in the order as they were able to pass through it freely meaning it was most likely someone coming to try to cause trouble, most likely a death eater. Mr Weasley appeared from the living room where he had been napping in front of the fire and walked towards the door.

"Now who could that be?" Sophie's fear flooded through her, wondering who it was but then it hit her. A death eater. Who was the one death eater who would come here? She was up and out of her chair as Mr Weasley opened the door. "Sophie, no!" He yelled as she sprinted past him. The second she turned towards the lane leading up to the house she recognized the blond hair in the distance easily. Her pace quickened as Mr Weasley waved his wand, allowing Draco to pass through and rush towards Sophie as well.

"Draco!" She exclaims as she jumps into his arms, folding herself against his chest. He wraps his arms tight around her, never wanting to let her go again. He kisses at the side of her head before pulling back to look into her eyes. He had been expecting to see her visibly injured but she seemed just fine apart from the circles under her eyes and looking like she was about to cry. "I'm so glad that you are here."

"What's going on? Where have you been and what's wrong? What did you mean in your note?" He questions all at once, unable to keep the questions from flowing from his mouth. She sighs and looks down at the dirt path under her feet, kicking at it with a sigh.

"Come inside." She reaches out for his hand and laces her fingers through his before she turns and begins to lead him into the house he had been in 2 weeks ago. It was then that he noticed she was wearing one of the t-shirts he had brought here with him. Since his leave was so hasty, his suitcase remained here but he didn't care enough to come back for it. She was glad he left it though as she got comfort from having his shirt to keep close to her, almost as if he were there. She felt like she had a little piece of him the second she slipped it on and got a scent of his cologne around her.

Once inside the small house that he never imagined he would step foot in he sees Mr and Mrs Weasley sitting around the table, waiting for them. Sophie stands before them, biting at her lip. She was unsure if she wanted to talk with Draco in front of them or not but thought maybe their support might help but when she looks back over at her husband she knew she needed to do this in private even though the two adults knew everything already, she didn't want Draco to have any distractions as she spoke.

"We'll be in the living room. Take your time, dears." Mrs. Weasley spoke, clearly catching on to what Sophie was trying to decide. She stands from the table, her husband following her up and out of the small space. Sophie sighs and sits at the table, resuming her spot in front of the now cold cup of tea and gestures for her husband to join her. He does so but is frowning as he sees her visibly anxious and nervous. What was she about to say? His mind was jumping around to different possibilities. He thought it would be that she had gotten hurt but seeing no injury his mind immediately went to her cheating on him. Maybe her and Potter got lost in a moment, or maybe even her and Weasley. The thought almost made him sick.

"What has happened, Sophie? You're scaring me. Are you alright? Did something happen? Did you do something that could jeopardize our marriage?" Sophie couldn't help but let out a laugh, catching on to what he was obviously thinking and shakes her head.

"No, I did not sleep with Harry or Ron or anyone else for that matter." She assures him and he feels a wave of relief flood through his body but then his mind resumed its racing. Then what was it? He just wanted her to say it. Maybe she was sick. Oh god, he hoped not. He couldn't lose her, he couldn't bare to be in a world she wasn't. "But I did do something... well actually... we both did, you and I." His frown intensifies. She reaches over, taking his hand and holding on to it tightly. He could feel her shaking slightly as she took a shaky breath, about to say what she needed to.

"You can tell me whatever it is, sweetheart." He assures her. "I'll love and support you through whatever has happened." She sighs and takes a deep breath.

"A couple of days after the wedding I started to feel sick," She starts. "I was nauseous and dizzy all the time, I was sleeping basically all day and emotional. I would cry or get mad at everything any one said to me. I first put it down to just nerves and anxiety from being away from you and fearing what had happened to you but it just wouldn't stop. I didn't feel right. When I started throwing up Hermione and I decided it was time for me to see a doctor."

"Are you sick?" Draco questions, barely able to even voice this question. His heart was racing and he felt dizzy, afraid of her answer but she shook her head.

"No." She voices before continuing on. "I went to a muggle doctor because I very well couldn't walk into St. Mungos with Hermione Granger while we are both wanted by the Dark Lord and the death eaters so much so we agreed it was better to see someone who would be safe." He nods, understanding. "They did an examination, had a lot of questions and then they did a test. Just one test and it gave us all the answers to why I was feeling this way."

"Will you just say whatever it is, Sophie? I'm about to die from anxiety over here." Sophie couldn't meet his eyes for a second, not wanting to see his face when she uttered the words she needed to but she knew she had to so she looked back at him and squeezed his hand before she mutters them.

"I'm pregnant, Draco." That was the last thing he expected to hear her say. His mind immediately shut off as he stared back at her, not even able to make his face show an emotion. She looked up at him, waiting for his reaction but he gave none. "Dray... say something." She urges. He opens his mouth and sputters a bit and then closes it again. He just couldn't think of what to say, he was at a loss and actually wished now that she had slept with Potter instead of this. Pregnant. His wife was pregnant. He knew this would happen one day, but not while she was off hiding for her life and in the middle of a war that could last who knows how long. Besides, they were also only weeks past being of age. How on earth could they raise a child?

"What do we do?" Draco finally manages to speak but Sophie just shakes her head and looks down at their interlocked hands. He sees tears now falling down her cheeks and sighs. He releases her hand and instead wraps his arm around her waist and pulls her against him. He holds her tightly and presses his nose into her hair. "We'll figure it out, love, we will." But she just shook her head.

"How, Draco? How? We're kids, I'm hiding for my life as the most evil and powerful person in the magical world wants to kill me, and we're in the middle of a damn war. Now isn't exactly a good time to have children now is it?" She lifts her head and looks up at him, staring into his blue-grey eyes. He stares back at her, knowing that she is right.

"We're together now, we'll get through whatever happens together. We can figure out how to raise a baby, I mean.. we're gonna have to. No going back now." Sophie sighs and rests her head against his chest then, suddenly exhausted and wanting nothing more than a warm bath before cuddling in bed with her husband.

"I'm scared." She mutters after a few moments of silence. Draco sighs, running his hand comfortingly along her back before pressing a soft kiss to her temple.

"Me too but I am so happy to have you back in my arms." She lifts her head again and smiles at him.

"You know what today is, right?" She questions him then, a smile still gracing her lips. He frowns, thinking about what the date was and a second later it hits him. His face lights up in a matching grin.

"Happy anniversary, my love." He tells her before leaning down to kiss her. He had missed the feel of her lips on his and had to use a lot of self-control to not get lost in her kiss right there. The Weasley's could walk back in at any moment. "Will you come home with me?" He asks her when they pull away.

"I was kind of hoping we could stay here, actually." She watches his face as he passes this idea over to him. "Mrs Weasley said she would help me through... everything. She's been an amazing help today already. I need her." He gives a nod, biting at the inside of his cheek.

"My mom is staying with me. She's done this too, she can help you, help us. Just as much as you can be helped here but it can be from the comfort of our own home. That's where we should be through all of this." He pleads with her, trying to make her see that going home is what would be best. "Besides, my mother is your mother-in-law as well as your god mother. It's her job to take care of you now since your parents are..." He trails off, knowing he didn't really need to continue. Sophie knew he was right and she could definitely go for being in her own home. It had been 2 weeks since she had slept in her own bed. She's instead been sharing a room with Hermione at Grimmauld place, where her and the trio had been hiding out since the wedding. They could have easily had their own room, the house being big enough, but truthfully none of them wanted to be alone so they bunked in her and Ginny's old room while Ron and Harry were back in their old room from when the Order had set up headquarters there.

"Okay." She finally whispers, looking up to meet his eyes. He gives her a small smile and nods. Just then Mr and Mrs Weasley re-enter the room, giving the couple soft and caring smiles. Mrs Weasley sits beside the girl she considers her child just as much as her actual children and pulls her into her arms. "I'm going to go home, with Draco." Sophie tells her as she rests against the warm motherly chest.

"I knew you would the second he arrived. It is your home and where you should be but know you are always welcome here, both of you." Mrs Weasley gave a Draco a look over Sophie's head. He gave her a nod, that being all he could really do right now. Sophie pulled away.

"Thank you, Mrs. Weasley, for everything you've ever done for me." Mrs Weasley smiled and leaned forward, pressing a soft kiss to the young girls forehead.

"You're family, Sophie, never forget that."

After Sophie and Draco gathered up their belongings from upstairs, they said their goodbyes to Mr and Mrs Weasley as they were the only ones in the house. Their kids had all gone off to their own homes or in Ginny's case back to Hogwarts. The rest of the order members also went home, having nothing to do around there right now. Everyone felt so helpless, unsure of what to do with Dumbledore dead and Voldemort's power growing stronger and stronger as each day passed. They all just hoped that whatever the trio were off doing they would succeed and this could all be over.

Sophie was more than ready to be home again. She was ready to be back in her warm and comfortable bed, curled up beside her husband as she slept. She wanted to figure out what to do about her being pregnant in the comfort of her own home, as well. She didn't know what her and Draco would do but she knew she was going home and that was all that mattered in that moment as they walked out to where the protective barrier ended and they would be able to apparate back home. They linked hands and together disapparated on the spot.

The second she stood in her familiar living room, she felt a slight peace wash over her. She saw Narcissa walking towards them and is immediately pulled into her arms for a tight hug. When they pull back she holds her at arm's length, examining her. She had been thinking the same as Draco had originally, that she had been harmed in some way but she seemed alright.

"What was so urgent? Why did you need to see Draco?" She questioned. Sophie sighed, knowing she should just tell her mother-in-law but the words wouldn't come. Draco wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her against his side and decided to do it for her.

"She's pregnant, mother." They watched the horror of realization spread across Narcissa's face. She was not expecting that. Her eyes slid down to Sophie's still flat stomach, still unsure what to think about this.

"Oh," She mutters, a hand to her chest as she takes a deep breath. "Well.. that is unexpected. Now isn't really the time for children." Draco couldn't help but roll his eyes.

"We understand that, mother, but it's not like we planned on this happening. We didn't mean for it to happen now but it has and there isn't really anything we can do about it now but figure out our next step. Our first step was to come back home. We want to be here and in our own environment while we decide what to do." Sophie gives a nod from his side as she clung on to him. She had no idea when she was going to see him again but here he was. They were together again and this time apart made her see that she couldn't leave him again - pregnant or not. At his side was where she was meant to be, it was the only way she could function.

"Well then. I'll be upstairs in my room then - let the two of you talk this through." Narcissa finally says after a moment of silence. "I'll see you in the morning." With that she turns and disappears up the stairs, leaving the two of them alone.

"Well that could have gone worse." Sophie mutters as soon as they are alone.

"Could have gone a bit better though too." Draco counters, both of them letting out quiet laughs as they turn to face each other. "So, what now?" Draco imagined when him and Sophie were reunited it wouldn't be like this. He thought they would be happy, excited to be back together but instead here they were - terrified of what the future held now that Sophie was pregnant. This was all too much to take in right now, Draco was exhausted.

"Right now I want a bath and then to sleep." She tells him, smiling up at him. He gives her a smile back, loving that idea very much.

"Sounds like a plan to me." He leans down, pressing his lips to hers. He knew in that moment that no matter what the future held and everything that had happened his love for Sophie was as strong as ever. He wanted to protect and keep her safe for her entire life and so far he hadn't been doing such a good job but now she needed his protection even more. They had a family to think about now and that scared him right down into his bones. He didn't know what the future held but lately he never really did all he knew was that he was never letting his wife leave his side again.
