Lonely Boy
Oh, oh-oh I got a love that keeps me waiting
We're at dinner a few weeks later and Mom's looking at me with a smile. "What?" I ask. She just shakes her head and smiles even more.
"Mom, what?"
"Rhett asked about you," she says and I feel my heart leap from my chest.
"Oh," I say, trying to space out my words as not to seem eager. "Well, what did he say?" I try so hard to hide my excitement.
I've avoided going to Mom's work for the past couple of weeks so I don't have to face the disappointment when Rhett doesn't show up, but I never stop my mind from wandering to him.
He occupies my thoughts constantly.
"He just wondered who you were."
"What did you tell him?"
"That you were a girl waiting for her mother to get out of work."
I go back to eating my dinner with a scarlet face.
"Mom, what?"
"Rhett asked about you," she says and I feel my heart leap from my chest.
