Sequel: Just in Time

Mint Colored Eyes

Michael

I awoke to the doctor and gruff sounding man named Stan were in a heated argument. Though, Stan was the one doing most of the arguing. Every time the doctor tried to speak up, Stan would only talk louder. The man claimed on how tired he was about sending his team out to always find this Micah. He had enough trouble watching people he called “the twins”. The conversation then quickly changed to how terrible the doctor was and this program was as well. From what I could observe, that wherever we were was over crowded and under staffed. By this point Jordan was out of the bed and trying for the third time to force the window open.

A little jolt went through my body and the next moment I stood there in the white room looking through Micha's eyes. The stocky figure of Jordan stood where I once was and had his arms crossed.

“Now, smart guy, tell me how we are supposed to get out of here?”

I rubbed my index finger and thumb on my forehead trying to think on what to do. I normally was pretty good of thinking up escape plans. Kind of like that one time when Kelly and I were stuck in the basement of that abandoned warehouse back at home. I smiled at the thought remembering the awkward moment when we first met. Kelly didn't even have her braces on yet. She was just the girl with crooked teeth and baggy pants practicing her parkour while I was taking pictures. This was before Jordan moved to the area and a time we decided to never tell anyone about. What happened there was left there in the past never to be mentioned again.

It was odd that I could remember every little detail of that night even to the color of the graffiti filled walls and not remember what happened on the bus ride. I felt a head ache seep in as I tried to fill the gaps missing. There were little flashes of memories at the airport leaving the United States. Ms Brown telling the class for the fifth time to watch our luggage, that disgusting corn dog Jordan gave to me to eat, even that flight attendant that I swore looked identical to my neighbor Nancy. It was enough to satisfy my mind at that moment, but it bothered me that I couldn't remember anything until the bus ride that evening.

My head started to spin as I stood there with my hands to my head. They were Micha's hands than the hazy ones I had moments before. I removed my left from my head to stare at the lines across his palms. There was a faded scar that wrapped around the thumb and a couple of his nails looked like he chewed at them. That was when reality was starting to settle in for me. We had gone through all of the walking as if nothing ever happened and never stopped to notice what was going on.

“Hey, dude... you alright?”

Jordan tried to reach out his hazy hand towards my direction. I took a couple of steps back trying to wrap my mind around the situation.

“Dude, Michael-”

“Don't touch me!”

I didn't mean to shout, but that was how the words came out. That was when the conversation outside ended abruptly. Jordan was the first to notice the knob of the cream colored door rock back and forth.

“Micha!” the doctor shouted as he was failing to open the door.

“Move out of the way!”

The jiggling of the handle stopped for the moment as he shoved the doctor away from the door. The sound of a key entering the lock quickly followed. Jordan started trembling, moving the haze of his head back and forth from the door and towards me. I was pressed up against the window sill holding my arms close to me. A look of terror was across my face as my mind tried make up it's mind on what to do. All I could think of was to run, but even then, my feet couldn't move forward.

The door almost in slow motion seemed to open in front of my eyes. I wasn't sure what I would see. I wasn't even sure on what else I could do.

“How about fight back you idiot!”

Before I could comprehend Kelly's words, she was gone with Micha running down the hallway.
