Burn Me Away
Tea Party
Since he decided to stay home, Corey relinquished himself to the fact that he would be subject to Maddie's every little whim. But it wasn't like she was a bratty little kid so he'd go with it. It helped that her Mom was also following the little girl's directions as they played.
"I wants a have a tea party." She squealed.
Courtnee laughed, "Baby, we don't have your tea set."
"That's why we gotsa pretend." She said rolling her little eyes and glancing at her newfound friend Corey.
"Okay, so you need to help me get into character." He told her seriously. "Who am I? What's my story? Where do I come from?"
"Huh?" she said with her nose scrunched up in confusion.
"Ok, I"ll just come up with something."
Just when they were knee-deep in tea and conversation the phone rang, prompting him to jump up to answer it.
"Yeah?"
"You're home?" Craig asked sounding astounded.
"Well, yeah, Craig, it is my house. I do frequent it from time to time."
"How are the girls?"
"They're doing fine, man. We were actually just playing with Maddie."
"You were playing with her?"
"Yeahhhhhh....."
"Ummm, okay then. Could I talk to Courtnee?"
"Yeah, I'll get her." He walked towards her waving the phone and explained who it was.
She took the phone and went to the kitchen, "Hi Craig."
"Hey. You doing all right?"
"Yeah, we're okay. Maddie's actually having a blast with Corey today."
"So, he really is playing with her?"
"Yeah, we were actually having a tea party." She chuckled a little under her breath.
"Hmmph." He started. "Maybe he is getting better at dealing with shit."
"What do you mean?"
"Oh, it's nothing. Look, I talked to the police earlier."
"And? Have they found him? Do they know anything?"
He sighed, "No, still no trace."
"I bet they're not even trying." She huffed in defeat.
"Don't talk that way."
"And don't pretend like he's not in good with all the cops around here. If they did find him, they'd hide him out."
"There's a couple who don't like him." He countered in a weak attempt to disprove her. "Go back to playing with Maddie and try to keep your mind of things. Let me worry about it. I'll talk to you later."
"Bye, Craig. Thanks."
