Status: Don't let me leave it unfinished! I'm really stoked about this story and I've spent the last few days writing like crazy. (:

Oh Love

Less Than Strangers

I sighed as I set my glass down at the bar. Then I glanced at the people behind me. Parties, really weren’t my thing and here I was at ‘one of the biggest parties of the year’ according to my best friend. For weeks she had insisted it was going to be fun, knowing I didn’t like parties. I guess I was just a sucker to please her. I sighed again and turned back to the bar. At least I could drink. That was probably the best part of the entire night.

“You look stoked to be here.” I heard someone say, while taking the seat next to me.

“Very.” I replied without even looking at him.

He laughed and I couldn’t stop myself from looking at him. My eyes roved over his body while he ordered a drink from the bartender. His jeans were skinny and dark. He wore converse and his shirt was just a simple tee shirt. I hid my face behind my hand at the sight of his hair. It stuck up all over the place but did a nice side bang swoop thing. He looked at me and grinned and I noted that his eyes were a nice shade of brown.

“You’re staring.”

I blushed and turned back to my drink. “Am not.”

He laughed again. “I’m Alex.”

“That’s nice.”

“What, I don’t get a name?”

“I never said that. I’m just not in the mood to give it to you this second.”

“I see.” He said smirking. I couldn’t help but smile, the guy had his ways. “Yes! I got a smile out of you.”

I rolled my eyes. “Whatever.”

“So, no name, can I buy you a drink?”

I rolled my eyes again. “If you really feel the need to.”

He chuckled. “Not a fan of clubs?”

“Not a fan of people in tight spaces.” I smiled at him.

He gave me a questioning look. “Then why are you here?”

“Moral support for my best friend.”

“Ahh. Why does she need moral support?”

“Mmm. You’ll need to get a few more drinks in me before I start talking about personal things.”

He slammed his hand on the bar and yelled, “Bartender!” before grinning at me and taking another sip of his drink.

I laughed. “You’re really that curious?”

“Absolutely. I’ve been eyeing you from across the room most of the night. My best friend finally pushed me into coming over here.”

“He can be an idiot. However, I think he was a genius this time.” He grinned and I gave him a small smile. “What’s your poison?” He asked as the bartender came down towards us.

“Margaritas. The less I taste the alcohol, the better.” I smiled.

He rolled his eyes and ordered me some odd flavored margarita. “Don’t like alcohol?”

I laughed. “I just don’t like the burning sensation. And most of it doesn’t taste good anyway.”

“Then you’ve only taste shitty alcohol.”

“Have not! I’ll have you know, Camilla buys all kinds of alcohol and then she has me drink it with her.”

“Camilla?” He smirked.

I rolled my eyes. “Best friend.”

“Oh. Right. She sounds like fun.”

“Then maybe you should go find her.” I stuck my tongue out at him and he busted out laughing.

“Did you seriously just stick your tongue out at me?”

“Cute. Really cute.” He smiled and I rolled my eyes again and he gave a small laugh. “I don’t think Camilla would be nearly as fascinating as you.”

“Really? Why do you say that?”

“She doesn’t have white hair. Or gorgeous green eyes.” He thought a minute. “At least, I hope she doesn’t.”

I giggled. “You’re right about that. Her hair is the colors of the rainbow and-”

“-and so are her eyes.” I giggled as he rolled his eyes and took a drink.

“Wow. Helpful, no name. Really helpful.”

“Odette!” I heard from across the room.

My best friend came running towards me. Well, as best as she could wearing a tight dress and heels. I smiled at her. Camilla was gorgeous. She had to do almost nothing to get her hair to work perfectly (which was currently in loose curls, and all pulled off to one side). She had incredible cheekbones, (the ones people actually dream of having), and piercing blue eyes that almost every guy fell for.

Camilla was also perfectly proportioned and she knew it. She loved to flaunt her curves and wasn’t offended when guys stared, (which they did). I smiled at her as she stopped in front of me, slightly out of breath.

“Hey Cam.” I said. “Did you find him?”

“Who? Oh! Gabe? Yeah I did.” She grinned at me.

“Did he remember you?”

She bit her lip and nodded furiously. “Yes. We’re about to go talk and hang out and stuff. He told me to get drinks and then to meet him on the balcony.”

“Wow. That’s great, Cam. Why are you getting drinks?”

“I offered.”

“Oh.” I smiled at her and she grinned with her beyond perfect teeth.

“I just wanted to make sure you were doing okay.” She smiled and glanced at Alex. Then she turned to me and smirked.

“Hi, I’m Alex.” He stuck his hand out for her to shake and she did while studying him the entire time.

Alex turned to me. “You said she had rainbow hair and eyes.”

“I might be slightly color blind.” Camilla and I both laughed and he just rolled his eyes focusing on his drink.

“Anyway, I have to go meet Gabe. I don’t know when I’ll be home, so don’t wait up for me.” She smiled before giving me a hug.

“Alright. See you tomorrow, Cam.”

“By Odie!” She waved and made her way across the dance floor.

“Odie?” Alex asked.

“No. You are not allowed to call me that. She is the only one who gets to do that. And I don’t get much of a choice in it. She doesn’t like the nickname ‘Cam’ but she allows me to call her that.”

“Oh.” He acted interested and I knew he just wanted to laugh at me.

“Shut up.” I said turning back to my drink.

“Hey! I never said anything.” He grinned. “So, Odette?”

I sighed. “Yeah.”

“I like it. Kind of old-fashioned. And definitely unique.”

I rolled my eyes again. “Whatever.”

He laughed. “Wanna go somewhere...quieter?”

I grinned. “Please.”

He stood and helped me off my stool. I realized even in my heels I was still much shorter than him. He smiled and placed his hand on my back before leading me out of the club and to the fence that surrounded the club. He lifted me up so I was sitting on the fence while he leaned against it, looking at the club.

We talked for awhile about anything that came up and he was constantly making me laugh. Eventually I forced myself off the bench and hailed a taxi. I needed to go home and get some sleep since I needed to work later in the day. We swapped numbers and Alex kissed my cheek before the cab driver whisked me away to the address I had given him.

Alright, with my recent finish of Private Universe I felt the need to start a new one. (:
And I'd love some comments and thoughts about it.
I'm really stoked about it.
