Episode Two: Lost in Paradise

Part Two.

I sat there, numb to my emotions. How could it be? It was a shocking realization that what they said was true, but more so that I couldn’t help but to believe them.

It was the end of days.

“So, what’s going to happen next?” I asked, finally finding my voice after some time.

“We stop this thing, then go to the beach with a coconut in our hands.” Dean cracked a cheeky grin.

Sam rolled his eyes at his older brother. “Not much of a plan, we know. We just have to stop this, before it gets worse.”

I tried my best to look as calm as possible, but inside I was freaking out. I mean, how often do you hear that Lucifer is out roaming Earth, better duck for cover? Not only that, but the angels were working against them to start the whole damn thing. Dean smoothly slipped in that Castiel had no idea about his superiors’ plans. If he did, how faithful is he to the Winchesters? The thought was unwelcome, and made me sick just to think about it.

“That’s not the worst part.” Sam continued.

“There’s more?” I asked, warily.

“Demons aren’t the only ones after you now either. The angels are gunning for you, too.” Dean finished when Sam looked like a sad lost puppy, unwilling to say the rest.

I swallowed hard. My heart sank lower than possible. As a nervous habit, I began to fiddle with my Saint Gabriel pendant. Just beneath my thin tank top, was the sigil to protect me from possession. It was tattooed in black ink over my heart. It was a request from Bobby that I had it done. Demons, were one thing. However, I had nothing to ward off angels.

“So, what do I do? I can hardly fight demons, let alone angels.” I told them.

Panic started to set in. I was now more terrified for my life, and those in it. Dean must’ve noticed this, because he embraced me tightly.

“I’m not going to let anything happen to you, Evs. Neither is Sammy. Now, Bobby has an extra room for you at his place. He has it all set up and ready for you.” Dean promised.

“I have one more show tomorrow night. After that, I’ll go as long as Bobby doesn’t mind.” I said to him.

Sam nodded. “I’m sure he can’t wait to have you there. We’ll have to find someone to stay with you until then.”

“Cas, we need you here. So, get your feathery ass down here pronto.” Dean called to the ceiling.

A sound of what seemed like flapping wings came from behind me. I turned around to see a lovely pair of bright blue eyes. Castiel stood stiffly in his navy blue suit and tan trench coat.

“Hello, Evangeline.” His deep voice sent shivers down my spine in a delicious sort of way, and I really hoped none of them noticed. He then turned to Dean and Sam, a look of confusion settled on his handsome face. “Why have you called?”

“I need to ask a favor.” Dean told him.

Castiel’s eyes blinked in surprise, not because Dean needed something, but because he actually sounded nice about it. Well, as nice as he could, I suppose.

“Anything. I’ll do it.”

My heart melted at the sight of his loyalty. How could I ever question his motives when it was always so clear that he had none. A small bout of guilt bloomed in my chest for my thoughts earlier.

“Look after Evangeline. She has a show tomorrow night, and we have it on good authority that demons and angels want her dead. After the concert, take her to Bobby’s, he’ll take it from there.” Dean said.

His no non-sense attitude came back with the command. After all, Cas already agreed to do as he asked, and the angel never backed out on his word.

Castiel looked to me even more confused. “Why are the angels after you?”

“We wish we knew.” Sam sighed.

“I will stay with her, though I don’t understand why my brothers wish her dead. She is an innocent.” Cas spoke.

Dean clapped his hands once and stood. “Good. We gotta hit the road, Evs. You’re in good hands. Anything happens, and you call me, alright?”

I nodded. “Of course. Be safe.”

“Always, princess.” Dean smiled boyishly, adding a wink for the full effect.

The Winchesters gave me one last hug before leaving to kill the bad guys. As the door closed, it was painfully obvious that I was now alone with the gorgeous dark angel of my dreams. I wish I wasn’t so awkward around him, but I had not spoken to him since Caleb’s death. And it wasn’t as if he were a normal human man, either.

“So, I guess we should leave, too. The next show is in Cleveland, and it’s a long drive.” I told the angel, reaching for the door.

Cas gripped my wrist gently. My eyes met his, and instantly I was overwhelmed by the sensation of his touch, the look of longing that was shadowed in his eyes.

“Please, Cas. This is torture enough, having you so close to me. You know how I feel about you, and I you.” I pleaded with him.

He dropped my wrist as if I had burned him. I nearly cried at the loss of it. “My apologies. I am still new to human emotions and customs.”

“Don’t apologize, Cas. You did nothing wrong. It’s just hard for me wanting something I can’t have. You make me feel things I never felt with another man.” I offered a small smile to ease his worried mind.

He was so much like a child in some ways. He always looked so confused, and I felt sad for not having enough patience with him.

“Come on, we better get to the bus if we wanna make it to Cleveland on time.” I told him.

I led the way to my private bus with Castiel close to my side. Inside the tour bus, Gabriel waited on the couch. Upon seeing Cas, my dog’s tail went wild with happiness. He even whimpered until Cas patted his head in acknowledgement.

“I think he missed you, Cas.” I chuckled.

“I must say, I am quite fond of him. He is very soft and very protective over you.” Castiel said.

“Well, he is named after the arch angel Gabriel. I was taking theology and religions in college when I found him.” I sat down as I felt the bus rumble to life as it started.

Gabriel made himself comfortable between the angel and I, his head in Castiel’s lap. Cas had a very faint trace of a smile as he rubbed behind Gabe’s ears.

“It is a very fitting name, though the arch angel you are referring to has not been seen for many centuries.” He said.

He looked more relaxed than I had ever seen him, and I think it had something to do with my dog.

We sat in silence for what seemed like forever. I was beginning to feel the need for sleep weigh on me. My eyes were getting heavy and every part of my body felt weightless. With Castiel here, I realized I felt safer than I had in months.

“Sleep, Evangeline. No harm shall come to you.” Castiel’s deep voice vibrated my very soul.

His promise to keep me safe was all I needed to fall asleep. He met me in my dreams, and all was fine.
