The Macabre Tales of Young Edgar

Coda

Image

Nighttime, fright time,
Sitting in the dark,
'Neath the floorboards of this Manor,
Is the beating of a heart!
Lust, revulsion, anxiety and fear-
Gone are all the slumb'ring beasts,
That used to lurk here.

Banished, vanished,
From our marble halls,
Scoured by the bright light,
From the paintings on the walls.
In new motifs, meanings to be dressed,
Perches the new mascot,
Of the Vile Manor crest.

Bat wings, black wings,
Ebony of crow,
Wheeling in the morning,
Where a new dawn's embers glow.
On wings of shadow,
Bouyed up by the past,
Ships that should be sailing,
Leave the harbour now at last.

One new anchor,
Sets its heavy down,
In a world of stories,
Where no eager man can drown.
Edgar's mascot feathers him a quill,
Edmund's gives him peace of mind,
And plentiful free will.

At war no more,
Inside and outdoors,
No longer to be plagued,
By tolling, tapping, 'Nevermore's!
'Neath the new-forged,
Vile family crest,
Hearts that are not hideous,
Can in their chambers rest.
