Chapter Two
I sat in my seat on the plane, nervously messing with my hands. I'd never been a good flyer in all honesty.
And the fact that I was THREE DAYS LATE wasn't helping. Stupid fucking Heathrow airport. Thanks to fog the plane had been delayed for three days.
So I was three days late, the German girl with the fucked up accent who was making her late entrance. I was enthralled, really.
The plane landed, and I was ushered into the terminal, where I went to baggage claim. Waiting for my black and red luggage to come round the belt, I looked around me.
Was anyone even going to be here? Dear god I hoped so, I have no idea where the hell VU is.
Taking out my letter of acceptance, I looked at the address. Oh god, it was somewhere here in California I've never been to America in my life, so I have no idea where it is.
Walking out of the airport, I looked around gingerly, and was surprised to see a black SUV in front of me, VU across the sides.
A man got out of it, just taller than me, and came over to me.
"Are you Sarah Schmidt?" He asked, his voice thick with that lovely Californian accent. I nearly died then and there; I'd always been a sucker for Americans.
"Yes, I'm Sarah, I'm sorry I'm late, the planes were delayed" I said, my nerves taking over. Jesus Christ, I was in America, on my own, I was terrified.
"It's ok, we know. Youre here, thats all that matters. I'm Mr Haner, your human anatomy teacher," He said, putting my cases in the back. I nodded briefly.
The journey was quiet; I watched the scenery, fascinated. It reminded me of when I moved to England when I was 12. I didn't know a word of English then, just German.
I never noticed Mr Haner talk to me.
"Sarah, Sarah are you listening?" He asked, looking at me. I snapped my head towards him.
"Was?" (German, pronounced: Vas) He raised an eyebrow at me.
"Sorry, I was daydreaming, oh, sorry! I just spoke German to you, I meant what?" I said, covering up for my mistake. He laughed.
"I know what you said, I speak German. Anyway, I was asking you, do you know the American way of school?" He said. I shook my head.
"No, I lived in Germany till I was 12, then England until now. They have different schools to here. To be honest, I'm scared stiff" I said. He nodded.
"It'll be ok. The kids are nice. Anyway, we're here" He said. I looked outside and saw a stone castle. How I hadn't noticed this before I didn't know. My eyes widened.
Getting out of the car, I took my luggage and looked at the room number on my sheet. Walking inside, I saw it was silent. Evidently not many people around at the moment.
Mr Haner had disappeared now, so I was left to my own devices. I found my room pretty quickly, and grinned at the '6661' on the door. How cool, Satan's number in my dorm.
Walking inside, I saw the left side of the room was pretty much taken, so I put my stuff on the right side. Seeing a sheet of paper on the desk, I picked it up and looked at it.
My class schedule. I looked around the room and decided to unpack my stuff. This took about two hours in total, and I had a few posters up on my side of the room.
I wasn't going to bother going to class today. It was already noon, and apparently lunch had already started, so I was just going to lie low for a while.
I must have fallen asleep, because when I woke up, I saw that a girl was sat on the other bed, staring at me.
I sat up quickly, but before I could say anything, she blurted out.
"Can you speak English? Please say you can, I don't want someone who can't" I stared at her strange.
"Well your last names Schmidt, thats German" She said.
"I know that my last names German, I am German. And yes, I speak English better than most people do" I said, my accent surprising her. I laughed at her face.
"Oh wow, you've got an ENGLISH accent, fuck me. Sorry, oh, I'm Amanda by the way" I nodded at her.
"I'm Sarah, but you knew that already" I said, laughing. She nodded and smiled.
"How come you didn't come today?" She said, I smiled at her, it felt like I'd known her a long time.
"Because I arrived late, three days late, and I couldn't be bothered" She grinned.
"Nice posters by the way"
