Chapter Twenty-One

I woke the next morning to a soft light filtering through the windows. I let out a yawn as I stretched, my back and feet arching in a pleasant pain, and then felt Brian's arm tighten around my waist, pulling me closer into his body. I smiled, feeling his body heat mixing with mine. I could seriously get used to waking up like this every morning.

Relaxing back against Brian's body I glanced at the clock on his side table. It was only about quarter to seven in the morning, and I figured that as long as Brian was still asleep I would try and sleep as well.

I could feel every steady breath he took as his breath tickled against the back of my neck and shoulders when he exhaled, and slowly closed my eyes at the feeling. Breathing deeply. I felt sleep coming onto me again, but it only lasted a few minutes before I felt Brian shift behind me. My breath caught in my throat as his warm hand slid farther down my stomach, resting a bit below the waistband of my shorts. I opened my eyes and let out a shaky breath, biting my lip as a warm, tingly feeling shot through my skin. My heart was beating a little harder in my chest, and I had an overwhelming urge to find out where this could go if I woke Brian up. I almost let a moan slip out as I imagined him moving his hand down further and pushing his fingers into me. Moving in... out... pressing deeper... The images in my head were driving me crazy. I needed to kiss him... now.

Gently, I grabbed Brian's wrist, pulling his hand slowly away from my body before linking my other hand with his. I slowly moved first onto my back and then to my other side so I was facing Brian. His face looked so peaceful when he slept, and I loved the way his always-messy hair was sticking out in all directions. Wrapping one leg around his waist I got him down on his back, my body looming over him.

Brian's head was still facing the side a little, giving me access to his gorgeous neck, and I leaned down, quietly placing my lips along his pulse. I gently ran my fingers lightly along the other side of his neck, knowing it was a sensitive place for most anyone. He began to stir a little, and I moved my lips up to travel along his strong jaw line.

"Mmm..." I heard him groan, and I picked my head up to see Brian was awake, his eyes opened tiredly. Without giving him a chance to say a word I pressed my lips to his. He quickly responded, his lips meshing with mine, his tongue poking out and licking my bottom lip. I wasted no time in opening my mouth to him, wanting to feel his tongue press warmly into mine.

I gasped into his mouth when I felt his hands slide up the back of my thighs, his fingers moving up inside the back of my shorts, gripping my ass and pushing my hips into his. I don't think I had ever been quite so turned on in my life, and I just wanted Brian to keep touching me, never letting go.

My breathing kept getting heavier as our tongues pressed back and forth, slipping past each other. My fingers tangled up in his hair and I sucked his bottom lip into my mouth gently before letting go and sitting up on his hips a little to get my breathing back to normal.

"Mmh... What was that for? I mean, not that I'm complaining," Brian asked with a smile as I placed my hands on his chest, admiring the smooth skin beneath my palms.

"You made me all hot..." I whispered, my voice heavy with lust. I leaned down to peck his lips one last time before rolling off to his side, one of my legs still draped over his. With a little smirk playing on his lips, Brian stretched, a yawn escaping his lips which in turn caused me to yawn as well.

"So why'd your parents go on vacation without you?" I asked quietly as my eyes took in the soft glow of the lights on the tree, a warm cup of coffee in my hands and my legs in Brian's lap. I took a sip of the warm liquid as my eyes glanced back at him, waiting for his answer.

"They left before break came for us, so I couldn't go with them," he said with a shrug. "I'm kinda glad though, cuz if I had gone with them, I wouldn't be here with you."

I couldn't help but smile and blush. There was still something so scandalous about being with a university professor. But I liked it, and I liked Brian. I now knew how Sarah felt, to a degree - how the fact that the idea of Zack being headmaster couldn't stand in the way of her feelings for him. I was beginning to feel that way.

It was quiet for some time after that. Brian's eyes were on the tree and he was very quiet, barely even moving except to breath. I just let him be in his own little world while I finished my coffee, gently setting the cup down on the coffee table when I was through.

"Brian?" I asked, seeing the distant look in his eyes start to break.

"Huh?"

"...Why are you so quiet? Is there something wrong?" I asked softly. He let out a deep sigh and picked my legs up off his lap, getting up from the couch. I watched as he slowly walked to the sliding glass door that led to the back yard. He just stood there, looking out into the yard, not saying a word for a moment.

"I usually always get this... way around this time of the year. I try not to, but it always catches up with me..." he said quietly, so quietly that I barely heard a word he said. Slowly I got up from my seat, standing next to him and looking out at the yard as well.

"My wife... She died about a week before Christmas, which was ironically her favorite holiday. So, ever since that happened, it just has made this time of year that much more depressing... You know?" he asked, turning his head to look down at me. I looked up at him to see all the pain in his deep brown eyes, and wished there was something I could do to help make all his pain go away.
