Chapter Twenty-Three

"Is that the last of it?" I asked as Brian set one of my suite cases down next to my bed. He had helped me pack my things back up in order to move back into the dorms for the start of the new semester.

"Yeah, that's it," he answered, quickly shutting the door to give us some privacy. He smiled as he advanced across the room toward me, and I couldn't help but let my own smile appear as his hands found their place firmly on my hips. Slowly I snaked my hands up around his neck, pulling my body closer into his.

"I really enjoyed staying with you over break," I let out softly, my eyes connected with Brian's soft chocolate brown ones.

"So did I... I'm glad you decided to stay with me," he replied, his hands slowly slipping down from my hips to my rear, pulling me tighter into him as a devilish smile displayed on his lips.

"You know, it's gonna be really weird not having you as a student or getting to see your face so often," Brian whispered, his head leaning into my own until our foreheads were touching.

"It will, won't it..."

Silence consumed us momentarily, until I caught Brian's gaze again. "Well, you can come see me any time you want, really... Come stay at my place on weekends or something," he hinted, his thin lips holding a nervous smile. I chuckled lightly at the expression on his face.

"Well I would sure hope I was allowed to come see you."

"Alright, well I gotta get going and you need to start unpacking, so I guess I'm outta here," Brian said, his voice heightening in volume. I pulled away from the tight embrace slightly, just enough so that I could see his face better.

"Kay... I'll see you later," I responded brightly, inwardly smiling as he leaned down and placed his lips on mine. I let a sigh out through my nose, my eyes fluttering shut at the feeling of physical contact between us. Almost too soon, I felt his lips leave mine, but I wasn't about to let him get away that easily.

"Nuh-uh," I whispered against his mouth, and I could feel Brian smiling as I pulled him closer. Ruffling my hand through the hair on the back of his head, I felt Brian's tongue pressing against my closed mouth, wanting me to open up so I did. His tongue soon found mine and began sliding against it, allowing me to bask in the pool of lust we were slowly creating. Brian pulled away again, but despite my whining did not come back down to my needy lips.

"I really gotta go, baby," he said, a soft smile on his face. "I'll see you later."

"Fine," I huffed, and I was able to steal one last peck from him before he let me go, striding across the room and slipping out the door.

Sighing to myself, I slowly began the task of unpacking the clothes I ha taken with me to Brian's. I was almost surprised at the amount I had packed, but then shrugged it off considering that the break had lasted a month, and it was now late January.

No more than ten minutes later the door opened once more, and I glanced over my shoulder to see Sarah entering the room. I hadn't even noticed that she was already moved in when I had arrived.

Smiling, I stopped folding my clothes and turned toward her. "Hey! How was your break?" I asked, my eyes scanning over the glowing look on her and then traveling down to her belly that had slightly grown - it was still a pretty small baby bump, though.

"It was good. Zack, the doof, showered me with presents and took me to meet his parents and what the bloody hell is that around your neck?" she asked, changing beat halfway through her sentence. She took a step closer, gently fingering the nameplate that rested on my collarbones. "Brian get that for you?"

"Yeah," I blushed. "I told him I couldn't accept it, but he made me. He still won't tell me if those are real diamonds or not..." I said quietly as Sarah ran her eyes over it.

"They look real enough o me," she said with a shrug. Her gaze then shifted as she smirked, staring at something else on my neck.

"Ooh, what do we have here?" she asked slyly, her finger lightly tapping the love bruise adorning the left side of my neck. I felt a crimson flush pool under my cheeks and swallowed hard.

"Yeah... Last night got kinda carried away," I stuttered out, swatting her hand away.

"Oh shit, did you guys... You know?" Sarah prodded, and I flopped down on my bed.

"No... we haven't done that... But we've done other things, "I blushed, mentally smacking myself after for opening my mouth.

"Damn, what did you do then?"

"Well... I've gone down on him, and I gotta tell ya, that man has some damn talented fingers." With that, Sarah burst out in laughter, and I couldn't help but join in.

"So you guys are really together?" she asked once she had calmed down.

"Yeah," I said with a smile adorning my lips, "we really are."

"You know man, you should really make our breaks longer," I sighed as I lounged back into the couch in Zack's on-campus apartment. He was in the other room, rummaging through drawers and cupboards, delaying his response.

"Well," I heard him grunt as he stopped what he was doing and came to the doorway. "If I did that, then summer break would be short as hell. Gotta compromise something, you know..."

"Yeah, I know... It's just," I trailed off, a sigh escaping my lips as I rested my hands behind my head. Visions of the moth off with Amanda kept flickering in my mind, especially ones from the night before. I just couldn't stop thinking about her.

"Uh huh... You had a lady friend over during vacation, didn't you?" Zack teased lightly, and I looked up to see his arms crossed and a smug little grin pulling at his lips. Without warning, I felt a crimson blush come upon my cheeks, and I glanced away from his stare. "Sorry dude, but, I gotta do what I gotta do. And, at this point in time, that would be running to the store real quick to get some damn food in this place. I'll be back," he said, grabbing his keys and pulling a jacket on, quickly exiting the apartment with nothing but a wave from me.

Sighing deeply to myself once I was alone, I reached toward the coffee table and snatched the remote, turning the TV on. Flipping through channels until I found a show that appealed to me, I set the remote down and stood, glancing at the screen briefly before heading further into the apartment to the bathroom. Not bothering to close the door considering I was completely alone, I quickly did my business, washing my hands at the sink after.

As I reached for the hand towel my eyes caught something very peculiar on the countertop. Many things actually, all looking severely out of place. There was a hot pink toothbrush sitting next to Zack's in the holder, a few rings and a necklace clearly belonging to a woman, and two glass bottles of ladies' perfume. Grabbing one as my brain slowly began its thought process, I pulled the top off and sprayed a little, inhaling the somewhat exotic fumes. Looking down at the bottle in my hand, I turned it around until the name was visible: Glow by J-Lo.

Scrunching my nose up in confusion, my brows knitting together, I quickly replaced the top and set the glass back where I had found it. The only logical fitting reason why Zack would have women's toiletry things in his bathroom was if he was getting serious with one. Serious to the point of moving in.

Letting my curiosity get the better of me, I slowly left the bathroom and headed to Zack's bedroom. Nothing seemed out of place until I reached the closet. Taking up almost half the hanging closet space were shirts - ones that I had never seen Zack wear, considering most of them were blatantly female. In addition to all that, my eyes scanned the floor and saw shoes lined up, all of them being smaller than Zack's size.

Drawing my attention, I heard the front door to the apartment open and shut, signaling that Zack had returned.

"....Brian?" he called out, obviously not seeing me in the position I was in when he had left. Slowly I turned and walked out the room and down the hall, shoving my hands in my pockets as I emerged into the living room. Zack was stood there, and his eyebrows knitted together in confusion upon seeing me.

"What's up?" he asked.

"Why the hell are there... girl things here?" I asked lowly. I watched as his eyebrow slightly cocked on one side.

"What do you mean, bro?"

"What I mean is... The clothes in the closet, the shit in the bathroom... That shit isn't yours, and don't tell me it is, cuz that'd be creepy."

"Oh... Uh, about that," Zack said nervously, rubbing the back of his neck and glancing to the floor. "I've decided I want to further my relationship with Sarah. She stayed with me over break, and I took her with me to meet my parents."

"You what?!" I all but shouted, causing Zack to wince. "What the fuck, dude."

"I love her, Bri. That's what it's come down to. Sarah isn't just a girl, and I don't care if she's a student, which you seem so keen on continuously reminding me of. I don't care what you think of me, or what you think of us, " Zack said, rather calmly, as he took a seat on the couch, his eyes fixating hard into mine.

"It'll ruin you, man. You can't be with her. I don't want to have to resort to drastic measures, but I will if I have to. And, what's worse, is that if anyone catches you two together, not only will your job be at stake, but mine will be too because I kept it from higher authorities when I knew what was going on," I said, practically seething at the audacity of the man seated before me. "It's a selfish thing to do, risking your friend's career like that, man."

"Excuse me!? I think it's a selfish thing you're doing, Brian, forcing me constantly to choose between my fucking career and the woman I love!" he practically screamed, shooting up until he was standing at his full height. "It's a job. I can get a new one, if need be, but I don't think I can ever find someone else like Sarah."

"This career is the only fucking thing I have left," I shot at him, anger rising up through me, "and you don't care if that gets taken away from me, along with everything else?"

Closing his eyes tight and shaking his head to himself, Zack finally looked back up at me. "Don't start making me choose between her and our friendship. I already know which one I'll choose."

"You know wha-" I started to say, but felt my cell vibrating in my pocket, causing me to break off mid-sentence. Reaching into my pocket, I grabbed the phone and saw that I had a text from Amanda.

'Baby, I miss you already. Come have dinner with me? --Amanda

Sending her a short reply, I pocketed the phone again and looked up.

"You know what? Fuck it... I have to go. Don't think this is over," I said pointedly, showing myself to the door and leaving, sighing deeply. Quickly I made my way down the administration wing, eager to see my girlfriend again.
