These Things I've Done

Chapter 25.

I sat there staring at the doorway, my heart still pounding. He was so close, but so far away. Everything in me wanted to go after him, grab him, pull him back, and just have him here next to me as I fell asleep. I was tired of being alone, and he was the one I wanted.

But he was right. He was still my patient. And there were boundaries. But, he wasn't in the hospital. I wasn't at work. It wasn't fair. I sighed, pulling the covers over my head, and shoving my face into the pillow.

Endless thoughts of Kelli streamed through my head before I dozed off, rediscovering them in my deepest dreams.

Soon, there was a knock at the door. I shot up. It had gotten colder. I looked over to see I had left my window open. I sighed, getting up, closing it tightly, only to be faced with Kellin in the doorway. His eyes wide, chewing on his sleeve. I jumped.

"W-what are you doing up here?" I asked, rubbing my eyes. His cheeks got red, he backed up a little.
"I.. I'm sorry.. I.. I just.." He looked down. "I.. hadanightmare." He said. I sighed, smiling at him.
"So you came up here?" I giggled. He looked up a me, smiling at the sound of my laughter. He nodded.
"I.. I mean.. I don't sleep much.. so, when I do.. they.. well, they scare me." He bit his lip.
"I'm.. I'm sorry.. I.. I'll go back downstairs.." He said quietly. He turned out of the doorway.
"No.." I said. He quickly stopped, looking back at me. "S-stay."

He gave me a half smile, shoving his hands into his pockets, slowly walking back into my room. I climbed back into bed, now moving over to one side.
"Here.." I said, pulling the covers over. His cheeks got red again as he went over, gently climbing in. My heart began to race the closer he got.

"Th-thanks, Taylor." He said. I rolled over, now facing him. He pulled the pillow close, hugging it tightly. Oh, how badly I wished it was me.
"It's no problem." I said. He sighed.
"And.. I promise. I won't try anything. I swear." He said, giggling. I bit my lip. I wouldn't mind it at all if he did. I wouldn't stop him.

"Well.." I said, moving closer. "I can't guarantee anything." His eyes got wide as I cuddled close, pulling him closer towards me. He didn't hesitate to grab my waist, pulling me up against him, wrapping his arm around me. I sighed, hiding my face in his neck.

"Good night, Kellin." I said quietly.

He turned, gently kissing my forehead.
"Good night, Taylor."
