Silence is Deadly
Who?
I ran though the words again, for the millionth time since the accident.
“Sweetie,” New tears started to from on her aging face. “I’m so sorry. You where in a car accident. I can’t say this in a nice way… you’ve lost the use of your legs. I’m so, so sorry.”
“What happened?” I wheezed out. “Where’s Sam and Rose? And Katie and Em?”
It was then she said the words that’s crushed a millions dreams.
“O God I’m so sorry. Sam was killed. Take comfort in she died quickly and painlessly. Rose suffered a head injury and hasn’t woken up yet. Katie’s leg is broken and she has a lot of facial injuries, but she's in surgery on now. Emily’s legs had to be amputated, to get her out of the car.”
Silence.
After that night, I became a bitter person. I didn’t see anyone. I didn’t want anything. I didn’t speak to anyone. I could see I was hurting my mother and father.
I didn’t care.
My every thought was that night. I remember thinking I was going to become a different person, someone brave. I laughed darkly at the childish thought.
Like I could be brave now. Like I’d want to be.
