Love's Spiral

Spencer almost couldn’t believe what was going on in front of her. Chris Argent was actually threatening to kill his own sister. Granted, she very well deserved it. Spencer never even thought she would ever see a gun in real life and here she was, lying on the ground, with a bullet in her leg.

Spencer watched as Kate slowly lowered her gun from Scott’s face. Both of them were able to breathe again.

Scott was breathing heavily, but at least he was breathing.

The door to the Hale House behind him, creaked open. All the teenager’s eyes shot to the door. The adults continued their stare down.

“Allison, get back.” Chris ordered.

Kate’s head turn to the door and she held up her gun at opened.

Scott turned himself, rushing to get to his feet as the door opened wider.

Allison got to her feet holding her bow in one hand.

Spencer, who was unable to even attempt pushing herself up, moved closer to Derek, unsure of what to do. She grabbed his arm and tightly squeezed, hoping he’d wake up and save the day.

“What is it?” Allison asked, cowering behind her aunt.

“It’s the alpha.” Scott informed Allison. His eyes turned their werewolf gold color.

Everyone watched the door, waiting for him to come out. The alpha came out in its full werewolf form, running through the trees and then encircling them in to confuse them. The alpha caught on Chris’ arm, knocking him off of his feet.

Spencer’s dad followed out through a window. He went and knocked down Allison, making her lose her grip on her bow.

The alpha came back and knocked Scott down, leaving Kate the only one standing.

Kate turned in her spot, holding her gun up, ready to shoot.

Brian ran by again, but he wasn’t fast enough this time.

Kate managed to clip him in his left shoulder. She laughed at the loss of the alpha’s henchman. “Come on!” Kate urged. “Come on!” She said again, trying to antagonize him. She flipped back trying to find him through the trees.

When Kate turned to her right, Peter appeared and caught Kate’s wrist, holding it tightly.

Kate struggled to get few and shot off a couple rounds. She groaned, using all the force she had to get free.

Peter got tired of forcing her and slammed his elbow into her wrist, probably breaking the bones.

Kate screamed in pain.

Peter took her by her neck and threw her onto the house’s porch.

Kate screamed at the contact.

Peter picked her up and dragged her into the house.

“No!” Allison called after her aunt. She pushed herself to her feet and followed them into the house.

In the next moment, Derek shot up in his spot with a deep breath.

“Derek!” Spencer gasped with a smile. “You’re alive.” She celebrated.

Derek looked over her quickly and noticed the blood stain that was pooling around her leg. “Red? Are you okay? Kate did this?”

Spencer nodded. “I’m okay, really. I can hardly feel it.”

Derek ripped the bottom of her jean off and tied it above the shot on her leg. He then forced her hand into his. His veins started to turn black as Spencer’s pain lessened.

Spencer gasped. “What the hell?” She smiled up at Derek. “I didn’t know you could do that. That feels so much better.”

“You okay?”

Spencer nodded. “I’m okay. Go help Scott. Peter’s in the house. My dad’s knocked out over there.” She pointed to the area he was at.

“You sure you’re okay?”

“I promise. They need help. I’ll be fine. I’m going to check on Argent.”

Derek nodded, getting up and then helping her up. Derek shifted quickly and walked into the house.

Spencer limped her way over to Allison’s dad, though herself to sit on the floor and checked his pulse.

Allison came out from around the back of the house. “Dad.” She called, repeating it, hoping he’d wake up. She had tears in her eyes and Spencer could only assume that Kate was dead.

“He’s okay, Allison. He’s alive.” Spencer assured her. “He’s got a pulse.”

Allison’s eyes shot to her leg. “Spencer, I am so sorry.”

“We’ll deal with it later. What’s going on in there?”

“I - I don’t know. Scott and Derek came in and Scott told me to run. So I ran.”

Spencer groaned, not knowing what they should do. Neither of them had a car near by to get Chris and the two of them to safety. The girls’ heads shot up at the sound of breaking glass.

Scott came tumbling out through one of the windows. He breathed heavily and tried to push himself back up.

The alpha came through the same window he’d thrown Scott through. Peter walked to Scott and picked him up from under his arms, holding him up to his face in a threatening way.

“Scott!” Spencer shouted, reaching her hand out. As Scott kicked himself away from the alpha, Spencer’s force was able to make Peter stumble backwards. She sighed, relieved. She then thought for a moment. Where is Derek?

Brian, to their right, was starting to come to and jumped to his feet, quickly going after Scott. The two fought for a moment before Scott got in a good hit to Brian’s head, knocking him out again.

Spencer noticed lights shining through the trees. Horns honked, getting the alpha’s attention. Jackson and Stiles jumped out of Jackson’s car, both with bottles in their hands, that Spencer noticed were actually chemistry flasks. Stiles threw the one that was in his hands. Unfortunately the alpha caught it, holding it in his hand victoriously.

Spencer looked to Allison’s bow, it was closer to Scott. “Scott!” Spencer shouted. “The bow!” She said, pointing to it.

Scott hurried towards it and caught it. “Allison!” He shouted, getting her attention so she could catch it. She did.

“Fire at the bottle. The bolt with the light.” Spencer ordered.

Allison quickly loaded up her bow and aimed at the object in the alpha’s hand. She drew back the string and shot off the arrow just before Peter could throw the bottle at her. The bottle burst open, engulfing the alpha’s arm into flame. Allison lowered her bow in disbelief of what she’d done.

The alpha started to freak out and try to get the fire off of his arm. He growled.

Spencer’s eyes shot to Stiles when she realized the one wasn’t enough. “Jackson!” she called, hoping he’d throw the flask that he had. He did and hit Peter right in his chest. The rest of his body quickly lit up. Peter was growling and grunting loudly against the pain of the fire that engulfed him. Peter turned to face Spencer and Allison again. He was starting to stumble towards the two of them. They backed up once they realized.

“No!” Scott said, throwing himself at the alpha to stop him from heading in their direction. Scott grunted, pushing Peter away from them.

Peter stumbled around a tree until he fell to his knees.

Scott looked on, making sure that he was down and not getting back up.

The alpha wolf had turned back into his human form. He definitely wasn’t good-looking Uncle Peter anymore. There were deep burns all over his body. He was gagging on his own breath. The fire trail that he left continued glowing strong.

Allison pushed herself off the ground and walked over to Scott.

Scott left his readied stance and sat in front of her. He tried to turn away so that she wouldn’t see him as a werewolf, but she pulled him back.

Allison leaned in to kiss him and as she did, Scott’s werewolf form left him.

Spencer knew that Allison could bring him back, but she never knew it meant literally. She felt intrusive watching the two have their moment, so she tried to wake up Allison’s dad.

Chris woke up, and Spencer turned her sights to the moment that his daughter was having. He got to his feet quickly. He didn’t look too happy about their moment.

After checking up on Allison’s dad, she used him to get up and go check on her own. She sat down next to Brian, with her hand above his chest. She used her magic to keep him held down. She shook him awake with her other hand.

Brian groaned. He wanted to reach up and rub his head, but found that he couldn’t move. “What the hell?” He took in his surrounding and noticed Spencer stood over him. He growled. “Let. Me. Go.” He said forcefully.

“Why did you do it?” Spencer asked him. “Why’d you help Peter?”

Brian scoffed. “For what he’s been after the whole time. Power. I wasn’t strong enough just being his emissary, and Peter needed numbers. He’d gotten an alpha from another pack to turn me a long time ago. In exchange, I’d help him.”

“You weren’t much help. Not exactly the strongest werewolf in the pack, are you?” Spencer moved her gaze to the burnt Peter lying on his back to their left. Brian moved his head as much as he could to see the area where she looked. He groaned when he noticed that it was Peter. “You bitch!” He said, struggling against the force Spencer had on him. “I’ll kill you!”

“See, I’d probably care a little more, if I wasn’t about to kill you first.” Spencer said, tears forming in her eyes. She held out her other hand and thought of Derek and the anger that he held. Her nails slowly grew into claws. “Sorry, Daddy.” She said, sniffling. Shen then flicked her claws across her father’s throat, making sure to nick the artery. Blood pooled around his head and she wiped what got on her hand in the leaves.

Leaves crackles behind them and Derek walked up to his uncle. He stood over Peter and got on one knee to have better access to finally do him in.

Scott noticed what Derek was about to do pushed himself towards the two. “Wait!” he called. “You said the cure comes from the one who bit you.”

Derek shut his eyes, probably wishing that Scott would let the cure thing go.

“Derek,” Scott begged. “If you do this, I’m dead. Her father, her family…” Scott reasoned. “What am I supposed to do?”

Derek didn’t answer. He didn’t want to answer. He already knew what he was going to do.

Peter took in a few deep breaths. “You’ve...already...decided.” He said between breaths. “I can smell it on you!” Peter growled.

Derek brought his hand up, claws out.

“Wait, no! No, don’t!” Scott begged.

Derek brought his hand down anyway, clawing at Peter’s neck.

Peter struggled for his last couple breaths as he started to choke on his own blood.

Derek got to his feet and turned to face everyone around him. “I’m the alpha now.”

!@#$#@!

Spencer screamed. She sat down on one of the metal tables in the animal clinic.

Deaton was digging into her leg, trying to get the bullet out of the hole.

Derek held her leg down with one hand to keep it from moving. His other hand was wrapped tightly in one of Spencer’s hands, taking her pain. Derek took what pain that he could, not wanting her to hurt so bad, but he couldn’t take it all.

“Are you sure you don’t want to go to the hospital?!” Deaton said above the noise.

Spencer shook her head and spoke between her teeth. “You stitched up Scott just fine. You can fix me, too.”

“Almost got it.” He reached the tweezers in one more time and finally they came out with the bullet.

Spencer sighed in relief when she saw the metal object, thankful it hadn’t broken into pieces. “How could that little thing cause so much pain?” She questioned.

Deaton smiled, knowing she was okay if she was making jokes. “I’m going to stitch you up now.”

Spencer nodded. The three sat in silence for a moment as Deaton tugged at her skin with a needle and stitching, before she spoke again. “What happened to Amy?”

“When you didn’t come back that night, she decided that she couldn’t be at the clinic anymore. She went home.” Deaton said in his normal, calm voice.

Spencer didn’t respond. She stared at her leg, watching the needle thread through. She could feel Derek’s eyes on her, but she wasn’t going to get into it now.

Deaton finished, tied off the stitching, and covered it with a bandage. “There is a spell in your book, that would probably help make it heal faster or at least take the pain away.”

“Thank you.” Derek said, nodding his head to the man.

Spencer was surprised by Derek’s kindness. “Yeah, thanks a lot, Doc.” The two left the clinic, loading themselves into the Camaro and Derek drove Spencer back to the Stilinski house. There was sort of an awkward silence between the two. It made Spencer self-aware. It was weird. The two hadn’t ever felt like this together. Given their recent encounters with kidnapping ex-girlfriends and murderous uncles and fathers, it was understanding.

When Derek pulled up to the house, Spencer didn’t get out right away. She looked at Derek who’s eyes were straight ahead. “No one’s home.” She pointed out, noticing that only her truck sat in the driveway.

Derek didn’t respond.

“Thanks for taking away some pain.” She said, still earning no response. Spencer sighed. “Derek.” She said, trying to get his attention.

Derek’s eyes flickered to her, but his head stayed facing forward.

“What does this mean? Now that you’re alpha, what’s your plan?”

Derek huffed. “I need a pack. More than just me and Scott. Strength in numbers.”

Spencer nodded and sat for a moment longer. She looked to him as he was deep in thought. “I can be your emissary. Like my dad was for Peter.” She paused when he looked her way. “Except I’m not gonna kill anybody else. I think killing one person is enough for me.” She said, looking down at her hands, feeling ashamed for even thinking about what she’d done.

“You didn’t have to kill him.

Spencer sniffled and nodded her head. “Yeah, I did. Or he was just going to seek more revenge and all that crap. And I really don’t need anymore of that. He was shot by Kate. Her gun is proof. Then they’re gonna say whatever killed Kate, killed him.”

Derek stared at her, not understanding how rational she was being about the situation.

“He was dead to me anyway.”

“Okay.” Derek said, unsure of what else she should do.

Spencer sighed. “I’m on your side, Derek. You know that. I trust you with everything. I hope that now that you know that I know the truth, that you can trust me. Or this partnership won’t work otherwise.”

“I trust you.” Derek said, quickly looking back to the road in front of him. “Always have. Just didn’t know how to tell you the truth.”

“Okay.” The redhead pulled the handle and pushed her door open, exiting the vehicle. She limped her way up to the house and let herself in. She walked into the kitchen to get something to eat when she noticed a note taped to the fridge.

Gone to visit Lydia at the hospital. Stiles.

Spencer grabbed the note from the fridge and crumpled it up, tossing it in the trash. She groaned and hobbled her way back out to her truck. She furiously drove to the hospital, barely stopping at the stop signs. She parked and walked into the hospital looking for Scott’s mom. She pointed Spencer in the direction of her friend’s room. She entered the room and saw the boys huddled around her side.

“Guys?” She called.

They quickly turned in their spots. They sighed when they saw that it was Spencer.

“Pence.” Scott said, walking forward, and engulfing her in a hug.

Spencer hugged him back, thankful that her friend was okay.

Scott held her at arm’s length. “I’m sorry about how things happened in the basement. I’m sorry I didn’t think to go looking for you sooner, but Deaton said you’d be fine. That you would handle it.”

“It’s okay.” Spencer stopped his rambling. “Really. I’m just happy to be out of there.”

Scott moved out of the way and Stiles slowly came forward to hug Spencer. The hug seemed a little awkward, like there was something between them.

“Thanks for saving the day, Stiles.” She said in his ear.

Stiles nodded, pulling away. “How’s your leg?”

“It hurts, but Deaton patched it up and it should stick. But I really don’t want to talk about that. The more I think about it, the more it hurts. How’d the formal go?”

“It was good.” Stiles said.

“Yeah. You and Lydia seemed to have fun, up until Peter ruined the party.” Scott said.

Stiles elbowed Scott in the ribcage.

Spencer took a step away from Stiles. “You went with Lydia?”

Scott took this statement as his queue to exit the room. “I’m gonna go find my mom.”

“Yeah, I had to. You were M.I.A. And we needed someone to take her to watch over her.”

“You did a hell of a job.” Spencer snapped, gesturing to the hospital bed behind him. “I’m pretty sure letting her get bit doesn’t fall under watching her. And it’s not even my fault. I didn’t know Kate was going to chain me up and electrocute me until I was close to death.”

“I know that! And I’m sorry that happened to you, but there’s not much I can do about it now.” Stiles argued. “She ran off looking for Jackson. She wanted to go find him. I wasn’t going to stop her.”

“God, Stiles. I got shot tonight. And while you were here, making sure Lydia was okay, I was getting a bullet dug out of my calf. I thought I was your girlfriend.”

Stiles couldn’t think of a response.

“Don’t you see what’s going on? You’re so hung up on Lydia and she’s never going to give you the time of day. You were her date and she still wanted to find Jackson.”

“I know!”

“But you still love her.” Spencer stated, knowing there was no way he’d argue it.

He didn’t argue. He knew it was true. He loved Lydia, but he was so sure that he loved Spencer. Maybe he did, just in a different way. “That doesn’t make me and Lydia any different from you and Derek.”

“This is so dif - ” Spencer stopped, chewing on her lip. “I think we need to stop. Before we ruin our friendship. I love you, Stiles. I’m not sure if it’s anything deeper than a friendship, but I think we need to be friends until we figure it out. Until you figure out your thing for Lydia, and… I figure out my thing for Derek.”
Stiles nodded.

“I’m gonna go.” She said, everything in her wanting to leave. “If she wakes up, make sure you’re here. You need to be that for her. She’s gonna need it.”

Stiles nodded again, and Spencer left without another word.

Spencer limped quickly through the hospital halls back to her truck. She knew that Isaac would listen to her, hug her, until she felt better. But when she got to her truck and tried to jump into it, she bumped her wound. Spencer groaned. She hadn’t done the healing spell yet and she didn’t have her book. She left it back at the clinic when she went to look for Derek.

Derek. He could take away her pain. He could do it quicker than any spell could. He needed a pack anyway. Being turned was the fastest way of doing that. She drove quickly to the Hale House, her truck, furiously, going over the bumps of the forest. She hopped out and walked up the porch steps.

“Derek!” She called loudly, her voice catching every wall of the charred house. “Derek!” She called again, when he didn’t come out. She quickly pushed herself up the stairs to the second floor and that’s where he made his appearance in the hallway.

“What’s wrong?”

“Bite me.” Spencer said.

“What?” Derek said, showing her an incredulous look.

“Bite me.” She repeated. “Change me. Make me into a werewolf.”

“No.” he argued quickly.

“I don’t want to fight about this. Just do it.”

“I’m not going to do it.”

“Derek, you told Scott that the bite was a gift. Have you suddenly changed your mind? You need a pack. I’m willing to be in your pack. I know you and you would rather have someone you know and can trust rather than some random kid. You know me. You trust me. So turn me.”

“The bite doesn’t always take. You could die.”

“I’m willing to take that risk.”

“I’m not.” Derek insisted.

This surprised Spencer. He didn’t want her to die. He cared enough for that at least. “Do it, Derek. The fact that you don’t want me to die, proves to me that you want this, too. You can’t always protect me yourself, but this is the perfect way to make sure I am protected. I would have been able to help last night. I wouldn’t have just been dead weight after Kate shot me. I could have helped you with Peter.”

Derek stared at her for a moment, thinking it over.

Spencer stared right back, waiting for his answer. “Derek, please.” She begged.

He waited another minute. Then his eyes glowed red and he bared his teeth. “Okay.”
