Throwing Stones at Glass Houses

Chapter 21

I woke up at six to my alarm clock blaring. I had just fallen asleep at five-thirty. "School time," Jack said knocking on my door. I sat up. I felt so sick. I felt like I was being beaten up. I held my stomach. I figured I must be hungry. I stood up and started heading towards my bathroom. I started to gag. Without warning I threw up on the floor. I dropped to the floor holding my stomach. "Stella," my mom said running in. I sat on the floor shivering. I started to throw up again. Vic's sweatshirt was the only warmth I had. She felt my forehead, "Stells you're burning up." I curled up in a ball shivering. I was sweaty but cold at the same time. "Maybe you should stay home today," she said cleaning up the throw up. My mom handed me a bucket just in case. She helped me get to my feet. My legs felt like jelly. I collapsed on to my bed. I was exhausted. "I have to go to work. You sure you're gonna be fine here," my mom asked me tucking my hair behind my ear. "Can I call Vic," I asked my mom. "Sure thing. I'm gonna be heading out. I'm locking the door. If he comes over you have to let him in," she said closing my bedroom door behind her. I picked up my phone and dialed Vic. "Hello," Vic said sounding groggy. It was eight-thirty at this point in time. "Did I wake you again," I said my voice sounding hoarse. "No, no, I was up," he said yawning, "you don't sound to good love." "I'm sick," I said my voice cracking. "Aw babe," he said sounding more awake. "Can you come stay with me," I said. I felt like I sounded so pathetic. "Of course, I'll be over in a minute," he said hanging up. I laid down in the bed pulling my blanket closer to me. I was still freezing. I closed my eyes trying to drift off. I heard tapping on my window. I jumped up a bit. I grabbed the bucket as I walked to the window. I unlocked it and collapsed on the floor. My body was so weak. I put my head in the pail and threw up. Vic held my hair back. I coughed a bit. Vic lifted me up bridal style and put me on the bed. He put the blanket over my body and sat next to me under it. "I brought you some soup and some ginger ale," he said holding up the bag for me to see. "Want to watch a movie," I asked him holding stomach. I was still shivering. Vic snuggled with me. "Vic you're gonna get sick," I said trying to push him off. "I don't care. As long as you're feeling better," he said kissing my forehead. I turned on the last movie I had watched and snuggled into Vic. "Wow, you're warm and all clammy," Vic said feeling my forehead. I looked at him. My eyes were rolling. I was too weak to stay up. He rubbed my back and I passed out sleeping on his chest.
