All That We Could Be

Chapter Forty Three

Chapter Forty Three

With the start of school approaching, Fallon thought September had come in rather slowly. She was actually anticipating going back to university. She was going to be starting her second last year. Fallon had decided that along with her classes she would start working on a research project. She had also decided keep the options of her continuing her education open. Who knew what the future held in store.

Fallon also decided to start writing for her next album. In the meantime Fallon and Christopher had persuaded Craig to release a charity single to benefit Phil’s charity. She would be releasing ‘Zero Gravity’, another David Archuleta song, which would coincide with the auction of the car in the middle of September. They had been working hard on the car. The guys would come whenever they had a spare minute after work.

With everything going smoothly, Fallon couldn’t help but feel a little empty. She had been keeping herself busy long enough not to really feel anything but as her activities started to slow down…she was becoming more aware of her feelings.

At least she had one mystery to use in order to distract herself with. The bouquets hadn’t stopped coming. They only changed in arrangement and color. Fallon still had not been able to catch the person responsible.

Fallon had gone back to school shopping a few days ago and glanced at the papers as she waited to check out her stuff. She was surprised to see some of the headlines.

‘Lénia leaves Daniel’ was one of the ones Fallon saw first. Another was ‘Daniel and Lénia call it quits over their differences.’, and still another said ‘Inside sources tell all: Why Daniel and Lénia split! The ultimatum!’ there were a few more but Fallon didn’t pay attention to them.

As much as Fallon was curious to find out why the two had broken apart, she didn’t bother to read them. Something started to grow inside her. It was hope. Hope that maybe she would get a second chance with Daniel after all. At once Fallon scolded herself. I shouldn’t be gloating over this…-She thought to herself. Fallon quickly paid for her stuff and left the store so she wouldn’t be tempted to read the papers.

When Fallon had arrived home, Cheryl bounded down the stairs. “Hey Fallon! Did you hear?” Cheryl asked. “About what?” Fallon asked, thinking that it couldn’t be the same thing she had found out at the store. “About Daniel!” Cheryl said excitedly. At once Fallon put her hands to her ears and said, “No! I don’t want to know. Don’t tell me!” She told the older girl loudly. “Your loss, honey!” Cheryl said as she left the room. Fallon let her arms fall back to her side once she thought it was safe and that Cheryl wasn’t going to ambush her.

“You really should know!” Cheryl said cheekily, re-entering the room. Fallon sighed exasperatedly. “No, I don’t think so. Everything is always blown up in papers. Besides it’s none of my business.” Fallon said, trying to keep her curiosity under control. “I bet he wasn’t that noble when the papers printed stuff about you and William breaking up.” Cheryl retorted as she left the room. Fallon was stung, but relieved as she heard Cheryl’s footsteps going up the stairs and onto the floor above her.

“It doesn’t mean I should follow his lead…” Fallon muttered. Curiosity was like a fire. It grew when more oxygen was supplied. In this case it was growing since Fallon had access to the paper…conveniently in Cheryl’s hands. Fallon decided to stay away from the paper. There was no point in reading the story if it was blown out of proportion…actually there was no point in reading it at all. It was his life. She wasn’t apart of it.

Fallon went to her room and sorted out her things for the start of university. Labeling and putting paper into her binders, she wasted time so that she wouldn’t have to face Cheryl, who would no doubt rub her nose in that ire. She had her whole school bag set before she left the safety of her room. Before leaving she grabbed a DVD to watch. When she saw that Cheryl wasn’t in the living room or kitchen, Fallon decided to head to the basement.

Before she opened the door to the stairs for the basement; the door bell rang. Fallon was surprised. She hadn’t been expecting anyone and Cheryl hadn’t told her if anyone was coming.

Fallon padded towards the door. “Hello?” She said as she opened the door. No one was there. Fallon couldn’t help but feel slightly annoyed. She looked around but couldn’t find anyone walking around. There wasn’t any strange car parked around her house or that of her neighbors. Fallon was perplexed. She was about to step outside to get a better look when she hit something with her foot. Fallon looked down to find a small box with her name on it. She picked it up, and then took a glance around the house. No one was present.

Fallon went back inside. She headed for her room, with the box and DVD in hand. She put the DVD on her bed, as she stood and unwrapped the box. She opened it to find a slightly smaller box. Hilarious…- She thought. She flipped open the smaller box only to find a velvet pillow with a heart shaped charm placed upon it. It seemed to be a matching piece for the same charm bracelet she had worn to the club a few weeks ago.

Any number of people could have noticed it. It seemed to her that the number of people who could possibly have given her the bouquets and gifts had grown immensely. Still she had no clue as to who it could be.

Fallon closed the box and put it on her computer table. She decided to think about it later. She headed for the basement a second time, this time there were no interruptions.

She put the DVD into the player and sat down to watch ‘Star Trek’ with Chris Pine. She settled down to watch the movie, with her mind far away pondering who could the mystery person be…and if it could possibly be Daniel…
