You Are the Greatest Thing That Ever Happened to Me

STEPHEN:

Things were going pretty well, our relationship was going smooth. I made her every wishes come true and she made my wishes come true. We went to different places just so we can cross out every single thing in her her bucket list, and I'm going to cross one more thing in that list. She wants to get married.
I know we've only been together for five months now but I've never been so sure of something my whole life. I always loved her and I know that she always loved me back, she made me believe again, she made me believe that things will be fine and thing won't be bad forever, she saved me.

I was waiting for her in our meeting place, just a simple restaurant though. I told the manager of the restaurant about my plan and I asked him and his workers to play along and they agreed. Everything was all set, she was the only thing missing.
I've been waiting for about 30 minutes and it was kind of pissing me off, good thing the waiter was nice enough to offer me unlimited wine. I thought maybe, her being late wasn't such a bad thing, at least I could practice my lines so I won't stutter on the actual proposal, but my thoughts were interrupted by my ringing phone.
"Hello?" I answered
"Hey, Stephen" Paige said in her cheerful tone
"Hi, what's up?" I said
"Umm, you see Adelaide can't make it tonight she has a fever and she's really not feeling well" she said
"What? Okay, I'll come over there" I panicked as I stood up from my chair
"No no no, she said it would be better if you didn't come by. It's late"
"No, I'll come over" I refused
"Stephen" Paige whined "Ugh, she wants to talk to you, hold on"
"Stephen?" Adelaide said weakly
"Baby? I'm coming over okay? I'll take care of you" I said as I was walking to my car
"No, please. Just go home already, Stephen" she said
"What's wrong?" I asked
"Nothing, love. I'm sorry I made you wait. Please go home now, don't come here"
"Are you sure?" I asked
"Yes" her voice cracked
"Well, okay"
"I'll see you tomorrow okay? I'll be there for sure" she giggled weakly
"Okay, I'll pick you up"
"Okay" she said "I love you, Stephen. I love you so much"
"I love you too" I smiled

I drove to her apartment to pick her up and I've never been so happy to see her, she wore a pretty black dress and she was so beautiful, as always. She looked like she wasn't feeling well though, which kinda worried me
"Are you sure you're feeling fine already? I could just take you home" I said as we were driving to the restaurant. I told the manager that the plan was gonna be a Go tonight
"Yeah, I'm fine" she smiled then she held my hand and she kissed it "No matter what happens, please don't leave me, okay?"
"I won't, I promise" I smiled.

As we entered the restaurant, the manager smiled at me and I nodded, which means they should be prepared for my Go signal. Adelaide and I sat at our reserved table.
"I have something to tell you tonight" I smiled
"Really? I have something to tell you too" she said
"Okay, what is it?"
"No no, you go first" she smiled
"Okay" I grinned as I gave the manager the signal. As soon as I did, the waiters served our food and one waiter offered her a glass of wine and inside the glass was the ring. She gladly accepted the glass and she gasped
"Stephen" she stuttered as she took the ring with a fork
"I know we're only dating for 5 months but, Adelaide. I've never been so sure of something ever in my life. I love you and you love me and I'm never ever gonna leave you. You're the girl that I love, Adelaide. I knew you were something when I first saw you. You're my best friend and I really really love you. Will you marry me?" I said as I stood up from my seat to kneel in front of her
"Stephen" she started as she stood up, crying, I felt nervous for a second but when I saw her nodding, it was the happiest moment in my life "I will. Yes. I will marry you" she cried and I stood up and hugged her
"I love you" I whispered in her ear and believe it or not, I started crying too
"I love you so much, Stephen" she said
Everyone in the restaurant were smiling at us and they were all happy for us. Even if we didn't knew them they congratulated us.

We pulled over into a small his to watch the stars, we were sitting at the hood of my car, she was in my arms and everything felt okay.
"Hey, so what was that thing that you were gonna tell me" I asked
"Oh" she said "Yeah" she sighed
"Is everything alright, love?" I asked as I looked in her eyes
"Yeah" she nodded but tears started to form in her eyes "I mean.... no"
"What's wrong?"
"Stephen" she started crying "The reason why I failed to attend to our date was because I was rushed to the hospital"
"What?" I said
"I fainted during our photo shoot so they rushed me there"
"What did the doctor say? You're alright, right?"
"Stephen" she said "I have leukemia" she said and she cried harder
"What?" I cried
"I'm so sorry. All of your efforts for that proposal.. ruined, It's in the fourth stage and I could go any time soon"
"No, no honey. I'm not gonna leave you. You're gonna get therapy and we'll do everything just to heal you"
"But it's too late. I wish I found out sooner" she cried "The doctor said to just spend my time remaining with my loved ones instead of the hospital, mom and dad are coming here next week to spend time with me" after she said that, I didn't know what to say. I just cried, everything was so hard to accept "Please don't be sad, love. I lived a great life and thank you for being a huge part of it. You are the greatest thing that ever happened to me" she said and I wrapped her in my arms.

We drove to my apartment and she spent the night over. John and Jess were already asleep in the living room so we didn't bother them anymore. I lent her a shirt and boxer shorts and she slept ahead of me, she was really tired. I watched her sleeping and I wondered what she's thinking of, she was wearing the engagement ring already and it made me smile.
I can't believe I only have a few time left with her, she is the greatest thing that ever happened to me
