The New Queen

Anna struggled through the summer, not with her injury. Her injury was healed and she felt really good about it. She was doing new skills that she couldn’t quite grasp.
During the summer she started to upgrade to an amanar and she was working on a full twisting double pike dismount off the beam.

“As a person who had to deal with Aliya” Emin said. “I think you just need to get over it” he said. “Between you and me I doubt Aliya will even make it to Rio with her bum knee” he explained.
“We’re a team though!” Anna said. “We can’t be a team and have giggles if she hates me”
Emin shrugged. “Why does she hate you?”
“she’s jealous of the relationship I have with Pavel”
“Pavel is 20 years old and you’re 16”
“Exactly” Anna said. “To me it’s rather black and white. I can’t be with Pavel no matter how much I want. She doesn’t understand, though” Emin shrugged.
“Let her have some air” Anna sighed.

The world team was selected at the beginning of September. Since Anna was upgrading to an amanar and she could now compete full floor routines and do the all around again, she was the first one placed on the team. Vika and Ksenia had also made a lot of improvements to their routines. Vika perfected her amanar and Ksenia really improved her beam. Grishina improved her beam greatly and upgraded to an amanar. The last place was going to be for Aliya, but instead the team took Tatiana Nabieva who could help on bars and vault. They had their perfect world team, which did not include Aliya because of her attitude over the last few months.

“Don’t say anything” Vika said. She was packing with Anna for worlds. “If you see Aliya you don’t rub this in her face or talk to her. You drop it and keep walking” Anna nodded. “Don’t start drama” But Anna thought about it. Anna was going to worlds and since Aliya wasn’t going to worlds Aliya couldn’t go to the American Cup thus meaning Anna could go two whole competitions without Aliya. She was rolling with this.

When Anna saw Aliya at lunch she smiled and went up to her table which was just her and Pavel.
“Hey” Anna started. “Guess what happens tomorrow? We leave for worlds! Oh wait, you didn’t get picked” Anna shrugged. “Oh well, have fun watching on TV” Anna skipped away. Aliya picked food off her tray and threw it at Anna. Anna didn’t know what she expected. Oh well she expected Aliya to attack her so food was nothing.
“FOOD FIGHT!” Igor Pakhomenko screamed. Suddenly food was flying back and forth across the small cafeteria. About fifty gymnasts trained at Lake Krugloe.
Anna took cover under a table. Vika crawled over to her. “I TOLD YOU NOT TO START ANYTHING!” she pushed Anna. “See what you did!” Anna started to giggle uncontrollably, after a second Vika started laughing too.

The team left for worlds a week before podium training. Antwerp, Belgium was a beautiful place and the home to the first world championships that quad.
Anna at the moment had the total combined D score. If she competed in London she would have beaten Gabby Douglas by a few tenths. At these worlds she wanted to win team title without Aliya and then win an all around title to replace Gabby Douglas’s Olympic AA title.
