The New Queen

Making History

"Everyone stops to look at the floor as Anna Zabrikova, the unusually calm, 18 year old Russian takes the floor" Al Trautwig started during the broadcast of the 2015 world championships, during the all around.
"Yeah, let me tell you, every time she steps onto the podium it gets super quiet. They all know if she wins this competition she'll be making history" Tim added.
"And it was a close competition in the beginning. Larisa Iordache chasing Anna the whole time. Larisa beating Anna on vault and taking the lead for that one rotation, then Anna having the advantage of a great Russian styled bars set to even out the scores. And then they went to beam where it would be so close Anna had to be perfect and she needed mistakes from Larisa to ensure her a gold medal, and then Larisa had a big mistake when she missed a skill, lowering her start value" Al said.
"But really it is her's to lose. I remember back to the 2009 world championships. Rebecca Bross had the title in her hands and one fall gave it to her team mate. If Anna can just stay on her feet and in bounds she can win this"
"Floor is her best event" Elfi said.
"Larisa's score is up, 15.354" Al announced.
"Anna is in a very good position. She got to watch Larisa and now she knows what she has to do to win" Tim said.
"Her floor starts from a 6.5, meaning the highest she can get if it's perfect is a 16.5" Elfi explained. "Her start value is a few tenths higher than Larisa's"
"And we see Anna needs a 15.000 and above to guarentee her the gold medal, the third straight world all around gold medal. Anything less than that and it'll be close" Al said.
"She's just looked so calm through out the competition. Her teammate Viktoria Komova has been doing all the cheering and screaming on Anna's part"
"Komova is at this point guarenteed a medal, at least the bronze" Al said.
“Their have been major problems in Lake Krugloe where Anna trains. She’s been struggling with depression and cutting. They were really scared for her she was struggling mentally and physically with injuries. One trip to the hospital and they decided, hey, we have a problem. Everyone at Lake Krugloe got the necessary help. Anna was allowed to train at home with her coach, Evgeny Grebenkin and was able to get the treatment she needed to do this”
"And now on floor for the Russian Federation, Anna Zabrikova" was announced. Not many people clapped, they were all just screaming 'Go Anna' in various languages. Even if you were american you were screaming for this girl to win. She was the Kohei Uchimura of women's gymnastics.
"She said to Andrea Joyce during the team final where Russia took gold that she just wanted the demons to stop chasing her" Elfi said.
"It's easier to chase then to be chased" Tim said. And after he said that she started her floor routine.
EVERYONE in the crowd lived through that routine. Every landing they cringed and rejoyced when she landed. Of course she always put on a show on floor, she stuck every landing because she was the best.
When she finished her routine she finally smiled for the first time that night. She took the moment to wave to everyone, not only the ones waving Russian flags. She got the biggest standing ovation in history almost.
When her score went up as a 15.6 she didn't think anything of it. She just hugged Viktoria Komova and tried to relax.
"it's over" Viktoria told her. "It's finally over" Viktoria held her tight and rubbed her back in small circles. The weight of the world was finally off her shoulders.
