Last Hope

Caitlin tended to my wounds, cleaning my bloody smeared face and making sure my cut wouldn’t get infected. Everyone had crowded around a table I was sitting at to write the plans for our living area out. When Caitlin finished I thanked her as she took a seat.
“Okay so we should talk about how we’re going to turn this place into a more livable state” Josh speaks up and I give him my blueprints.

It showed that I had cut off the back corner of Farmers; I had picked that area to cut off because within it contained the staff room, inside the staff room was a good sized kitchen, toilets and showers as well as lockers and when Jess and Sophie had gone to secure that area they had checked and everything worked.

“This is well thought out” Josh had passed my blueprints around the group and everyone agreed
“The makeshift bedrooms run along the outside so that we have a back wall behind us, the shelves around the staff room are movable and can lock into place to stay there permanently” I point it out on the print “The only thing is we need stuff from Mitre 10, its across the mall from us but not too far” I pinpoint it “Ryan’s group; Alpha is there, that’s their store so whoever’s going in make sure they know” I inform “I’m opting to stay here since I’d prefer working on the area”
“I’ll go” Baden volunteers
“Me too” Ivana states
“I’m in” Caitlin say
“Cool, here’s the list of stuff we need” I hand a piece of paper to Baden and the three of them set off
“Don’t let your guard down” Jess calls and wave’s good-bye to them
I get up and Josh, Sophie and Jess follow until we reach the area I planned to cut off
“Sophie, can you and Jess grab trolley’s and begin stacking the stuff on shelves into them please” She nods and the head off
“Josh let’s start moving the shelves”

An hour later Josh and I have positioned the massive, tall shelves into place, locking them down and making it impossible to move. Sophie and Jess have then gone and taken everything off of them.
“If my memory is correct we can take the shelves off so it’s just a steel wall” I shuffle the wall and I’m right so Josh helps take it down
“Are we taking all of them down?” Jess asks and I nod
“Let’s start from the top” Soph begins helping Josh and me and Jess get to work. After awhile we’ve belt up a sweat but we’ve got a rhythm going and it works.

Hours pass before we finish and the others get back hauling a massive load of stuff
“Sorry we were so long, Alpha needed help” Baden puts his stuff down and they pile everything up into one place “Ryan said that they were going to come by later to grab some beds if that was okay with you” Baden states
I nod “That’s fine”
“Woah this place is looking good” Caitlin scans the area, so far Josh, Soph, Jess and I had gotten the steel walls in place and it’s cut off a large area, there was however a gap at our entrance that needed to be formed into a door that could hold off any unwanted visitors. The bedrooms where somewhat in shape but the front needs a wall which is what we had been wanting from the gear Baden, Caitlin and Ivana had brought back

“Baden and Josh, I want you Ivana and Caitlin to get the fishing wire and tarpaulin up so the front wall of our bedrooms are done, don’t rush the job because we might be here awhile and we’ll need security” I order and they get to work
Sophie and I sweep the area out as Jess sets the large wooden boards into a neat pile, we’d be placing the wooden boards behind the tarpaulin to reinforce it which is exactly what we do after Baden and the guys finish fastening the tarp securely down.

It is late afternoon by the time we’ve completely finished making our area livable.
I pick the corner bedroom; it’s the narrowest section and rectangle in shape. The other room sections are square.
I’m about to go get a bed when Ryan, Dana and Meghan appear, I spot them and a surge of jealousy overcomes me but I brush it off as I approach

“Wow this place looks good Jordy” Meghan’s high-pitched voice startles me slightly
“Umm thanks, we all worked hard on this” I look around at our ‘home’
“She’s just being modest, Jordan’s been a really great leader, and she was a good choice” Josh gives me an encouraging nod and I blush embarrassed
Ryan grins at me and brings me into a hug before kissing my forehead gently but notices the cut “You okay?” He touches it
“It’s just a little cut, I’m fine really”
“Can we take some beds?” Dana asks
I nod my head “Yeah I was just going that way”

We all walk to were we find boxed bed frames Dana and Meghan walk off talking about getting double beds to ‘reserve space’ by sleeping with each other.
I roll me eyes ‘no surprise from Meghan’ I thought glaring after her
Ryan notices my glare and frowns “Don’t worry, nothing’s going to happen, she’s only joking” He reassures making me laugh
“Meghan joke about sleeping with a guy? No way, when it comes to her and sex she never jokes” I bite my lip and look to where they’d walked away, my words may have been harsh but they were true, Meghan was known to be someone who would have a new boyfriend every other day, as often as she had a different accessory which was all the time.

I stop at a double bed simple frame and stare at it
“You don’t need a double bed” Ryan murmurs touching my shoulder gently to bring me out of my thoughts
I go down the isle until I find a king single bed “Roomy… and single” I could feel myself begin to crack and I knew by the way Ryan was looking at me that he could see my mask slipping as well
“Here let me get that for you” He tries to push me out of the way to get the frame and I grab his arm, he stops to look at me.
“I don’t need your help, just stay out of my way” I snap, he backs off and I yank the box up into my arms and begin to walk off but I stop and turn to look at him coldly “Get what you need then leave” I continue walking until I get to my ‘room’. I spend the next few hours sorting out my ‘room’ and it began to look more like on too. Ryan, Dana and Meghan had left awhile ago and now my group pottered around doing our rooms.

Sophie comes into my room “Ryan looked really hurt when he was saying good-bye, did you guys get into a fight?” She asks
I shake my head “No, but I was horrible to him, I told him I didn’t need his help and to stay out of my way, I guess I’m just sick of always relying on him. I’m so needy and dependent” I sigh and fiddle with the hem of my top “So my response was to push him away but I was harsh” I explain
“Oh I see, well you know what you do was wrong, so when you see him next just explain it the way you did to me. He’ll listen to you and he’ll understand” She gives me a smile and leaves me to my thoughts

I smooth my mattress out before heading over to find some sheets and a duvet; I see Caitlin searching through the sheets as well and go join her
“I’m glad the Omega came” She states suddenly
I was use to her weird, selfish statements so what she just said didn’t faze me much “Why?” I asked mostly out of boredom
“Because if they didn’t come I’d still be stuck at home with my mum and little sisters, now we can do whatever we like at 17, 18 years old”
“Millions of people are dead” I state coldly, images of children being killed fill my mind
“And that’s awful but I’m just looking at the silver lining, you should too! You and Ryan can live together because no one is around to say no, you could even marry him”
“Right” I grab some sheets and a king single duvet and quickly leave ‘That girl is seriously messed up’ I thought making my bed then collapsing onto it ‘Everyone’s messed up though’
