“Heather told me that you went out with the Riders last night,” Dad states. We’re in the conference room even after the meeting had been adjourned. He wants to prod and poke at me until I squirm. I know the process all-too well.
“Yeah,” I reply with a shrug. “Hanson and I just went. It was no big deal.”
“Now, Jack, I don’t want this interfering with your duties here,” he says. “Before, this whole thing kind of overtook your life. I just want you to reevaluate your standpoint right now and make the best decision for your future. Do you understand me, boy?”
I sigh. Boy. “It was just a ride, dad. It’s not overtaking anything.”
“I always hated that damn thing,” I can hear him mumble. “It only took me fourteen years to teach you until you finally got it.”
