One Year Later.....

“Oh my God! I had forgotten how miserable this is,” Gwen complained as she finished dinner in Danny's kitchen. Their kitchen she kept reminding herself. They had moved in together after six months when they had married. After their first date, they never looked back, only forward. Blending his three boys with Livvie had been an adjustment but things seemed to be going smoothly now. The fought like brothers and sister but the boys were protective of Livvie and made sure no one messed with her at school. At home games they were easy to spot, each in a Briere jersey, Livvie's bright red hair sticking out in the boys sea of dark brown locks.

“Let me do that,” Danny admonished, coming round to help her.

“Danny, I can still do everything I’ve always done. I’m pregnant, not an invalid.”

He rubbed her belly. Seven months pregnant, she was as beautiful now as they day he met her. “Can’t I spoil you?” he asked as he kissed her.

Claude burst into the kitchen and they broke apart. Claude took the platter of food from Gwen. “You shouldn't be carrying this,” he said.

Gwen laughed. “Pregnant, not an invalid,” Danny said to Claude as if it were the most perfectly logical explanation for anything in the world. Gwen laughed harder.

“Don’t listen to him, Claude. He tried to take it from me first.” They followed Claude out to the dining room where Max, Zoe, and Claude’s girlfriend entertained the kids at the table. Everyone sat and the food was passed around.

After they had eaten and the kids had disappeared, they sat around the living room talking. “Oh!” Gwen said with surprise. “The baby is kicking.”

“Can I feel it?” Claude asked shyly.

“Of course you can Claude. Godfather privileges and all,” Gwen responded.

Claude froze and looked between Danny and Gwen. “Godfather?” he repeated. Gwen and Danny both nodded. “Are you serious? You want me to be the godfather?”

“We wouldn’t be here without you,” Danny answered. Claude’s face broke into a grin and Gwen guided his hand to feel the baby kick.

“Zoe, we want you to be the godmother,” Gwen added.

Zoe squealed and rose from her seat to hug Danny, then Gwen. “I’m so happy for you two,” she said as she settled back into her spot beside Max. "Can we have babies now too please?" She asked, turning to Max.

"How about you marry me first and we practice in the meanwhile?" Max responded.

Danny brushed a kiss across Gwen’s forehead and she smiled serenely at him as Zoe and Max went back and forth in French, Claude prodding and provoking them both. Gwen settled into Danny's arms and leaned back into him as he translated the exchange for her softly. He brushed her hair off her neck and kissed her. Gwen was the happiest she had ever been in life. She glanced down at the ring on her finger, Danny's hand resting protectively on her belly and smiled to herself. Tomorrow they would officially change Livvie’s last name to match the rest of their new family. Life was good and it could only get better. She couldn't wait.
