Flowers of Winter

Roo discovered The Pillar’s of the Earth, under the bed. She stretched her fingers, not nearly as long as Ruskin’s, and pulled the book into her grasp. She remembered Ruskin complaining that he couldn’t find it.

“Have you seen it Roo? I can’t find it anywhere, I’m only half way through the book. Roo? Are you listening to me?” he had yelled from the kitchen.

Ruskin had a library of books. Cities of books lived in the bedroom and living room, towers of pages stacked upon each other. Roo wasn’t a big reader, she did not understand or have the patience for many of the books Ruskin held between his hands. Roo placed the book on the bedside table so Ruskin could read it when he arrived home. She was excited to see his smile when she told him she’d found it.
