I have never been this nervous in my whole entire life, it’s now or never Dev.
“Anna, I—”
“We’re going to get wings!” Balz shouted, running from room to room. Anna and I both sighed in annoyance at the interruption.
“We can talk later, in private,” she said
“Meet at the park around 10?” I nodded, not meeting my eyes to hers. I walked to where the guys were in the lounge room and a few minutes passed and Anna still wasn’t down,
I’ll go check up on her” Ricky said walking up to her room. Ricky walked back down saying that Anna will be back down very soon, a minute later Anna was in the lounge room with her jacket and shoes on.

“You ready?” Chris asked before leaving, Anna nodded and left with us. When we got to restaurant all the guys including myself were like children in a candy store, we honestly could not wait until we got our chicken wings. After eating, we were walking around town and until Ryan said he had a date to go to with Allie, after Ryan left all the guys kind of drifted away saying that they had to get home or some other excuse. Anna and I were the only ones left so we headed back to the park,
We sat on our usual bench in the park, it was earlier than we’d planned on being here but neither of us complained,
“Anna, can we talk?” I asked, breaking the silence
“Of course we can,” she said said, sitting up so I she could face me.
“This morning you said you wanted to tell me something before we were interrupted” she said, I nodded looking at the ground.

“Anna, I know this is probably going to sound stupid, and you’re not going to want to see or talk to me ever again, but, since we met, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about you. And the more I got to know you and spend time with you, the more time I wanted with you. I couldn’t wait for the next time I’d see your smile when I said something stupid, hear you laugh; see your eyes glowing with happiness. But I know you’d never be interested in someone like me. I’m sorry Anna, but I couldn’t keep it to myself anymore. I had to tell you. Every night has been torture for me, loving you but knowing I can never be with you.” I had everything rushing out of my mouth a hundred times an hour, I thought I was so stupid to ruin my good friendship with her and I stood up about to leave when Anna grabbed a hold of my hand,
“Devin, wait,”
“Why would you think I wouldn’t be interested in you?” she asked being confused

“Anna, you’re gorgeous, you’re funny, you’re smart, not afraid of anything. You could have any guy you want. There’s no way you’d settle for me.” I said speaking the truth, Anna looked away and it looked like she was about to cry. Fuck! Why did I have to be so stupid and almost make her cry, she looked back at me opening her mouth and saying;
“What’s scary is that we seem to think along the same lines,”

“There are girls at our school who are willing to start fights with me just because I’m friends with you. I’ve seen the way half the student body looks at you. I’m nothing like them. I’m the weirdest, most fucked-up person you’re most likely ever going to meet. But I still wanted to talk to you and hang out with you as often as I could because I didn’t think you’d even consider me as more than a friend.” She said standing up in front of me.

“Well then,” I said having a sudden boost of confidence, lifting a finger under my chin so my eyes would meet hers.
“It looks like we’ve solved each other’s problems here.” Anna had a smile on her face just like me, I pulled her closer to me, our eyes closing and kissing. I kissed her gentle and undemanding, full of care and love but Anna’s kiss was practically the same but her lips were so soft like newly washed clothes that got washed in fabric softener. I swear I could feel the fireworks going off around us, we broke apart and Anna was the first one to speak.

“Wow” she said speechless, I nodded being speechless myself. I quickly checked the time seeing it was now 10pm; wow did we spend all that time kissing? Not that I was complaining at all, we walked back to Anna’s place. I said goodbye, kissing her in front of her house and when I was about to leave Anna grabbed my hand.
“Do you think you could sleep over just for tonight?” she asked blushing like mad
“I don’t see why it wouldn’t hurt” I said shrugging my shoulders, following Anna into her house.
“Do you wanna watch movies until we fall asleep?” she asked
“Yeah, sure” I said smiling at her kissing her lips gentle,
“Why don’t you go up to my room and I’ll go choose the movies” Anna said kissing my lips pushing me towards the stairs that lead her up to her room. I walked up the stairs into her room, stripping off to just my shirt and boxers and hopped into Anna’s bed. 5 minutes later Anna walked in with a stack of DVD’s,
“You wanna watch The Nightmare Before Christmas?” she asked shyly maybe thinking that I didn’t like that movie
“Of course, it’s one of my favourite movies” I said smiling at her as she put the DVD into her DVD player. She quickly changed into some sleeping clothes and joined me into bed, we were watching the movie laying down when I decided to ask her to be my girlfriend.

“Hey Anna” I said,
“Yeah?” she asked before slightly yawning
“Will you be my girlfriend?” I asked
“Of course I will Devin” she said pecking my cheek, we continued watching The Nightmare Before Christmas and I noticed Anna’s eyes were trying to stay awake.
“Go to sleep my love” I said kissing the top of her head, Anna went to sleep and then I started to fall into the slumber hearing Jack sing the lines of the song ‘Jack’s Lament’; Oh, somewhere deep inside of these bones, an emptiness began to grow, there's something out there, far from my home, a longing that I've never known”

I knew right then that Anna would always be mine.
