It has taken her a long time to find him. Almost five years, by her count. She knows this will take him by surprise, if anything can. She had wanted this thing, once, before all the pills and therapy. During all the insanity. Now she can’t even look at it.

She giggles softly as she places the bundle on the doorstep. The hysteria still comes occasionally, which frustrates her. Just another part of him she wants to get rid of. She quiets herself. The drugs will wear off soon, and she doesn’t want it to wake up.

She doesn’t want this thing, but there are tears in her eyes as she kisses its forehead goodbye. As she walks away from her son, Harleen Quinzel bursts into laughter.
