Prologue

Our bodies were pressed together, skin on skin, warmth embracing us like a blanket. His arms were wrapped tightly around my waist and his head was nuzzled in a nook between my neck and shoulder. Together we laid like that on his bed, silently enjoying each others company. Little was he aware of the wetness beneath my eyes and my trembling bottom lip. Even if he was aware, he would never understand.

Behind me, I felt him stretch his legs out slightly from our spooning positions. I pressed my lips together and squeezed my eyes shut, just in case he could sense the impending tears. He didn't call me Teardrop for nothing.

However, instead, in a voice unlike what I was used to, he whispered three words. They were so soft and gentle, I almost didn't believe he'd been the one to utter them.

"I love you."

And I started to cry.
