Even Without Words

Kellin

Kellin

Mike pushed me all the way downstairs and I collapsed onto the couch crying. He didn’t really know what to do so he asked me probably the best question ever.

“Do you want me to call Tony?” I just nodded quickly and Mike pulled out his phone.

Tony came over a little while later carrying a plastic bag and some spoons he must’ve grabbed from the kitchen. I hadn’t stopped crying since it happened. He pulled out three tubs from the bag and set them on the coffee table.

“I brought double dark chocolate, red velvet and strawberry, pick one,” Tony told me. I realised he’d brought ice cream and almost laughed a little. I decided on chocolate because it was my favorite and grabbed a spoon before ripping off the lid. Tony put on the movie Iron Man and they helped me calm down.

We sat and ate ice cream, talking about nothing in particular until I had a panic attack between movies because Mrs. Fuentes hasn’t called yet. Tony had to calm me down while Mike put in Transformers.

“Kellin, he’ll be fine,” Tony told me. “Vic’s a tough guy.”

“What if it were Jaime instead?” I asked. “Wouldn’t you be worried sick too?!”

“I would but you have to believe that he’ll get better,” Tony told me. “He’ll even be back before Christmas, I would put money on it.”

Just as Tony finished that thought, the home phone rang and Mike went to answer it. I strained to hear what he was saying and got all worked up again because it might not be good news. Tony failed at keeping me calm and Mike came back within earshot so I shut up again.

“That was my mom, she’s bringing Vic home now,” He said and I let out the breath I was holding. “He’s gonna be fine.”

“I told you,” Tony said and I dug back into my ice cream as we watched the movie. A little while later I heard a door upstairs close but didn’t bother moving until Vic came down the stairs. I set my ice cream on the table before running to him and throwing my arms around his neck.

“Baby, don’t cry,” Vic told me quietly and I just shook my head against his chest.

“I was so scared Vic, I didn’t want anything to happen to you,” I tried not to cry again.

“I’ll be fine Kells,” He laughed a little. “Come on, mom made dinner.”

Tony stayed for dinner again and I noticed Vic wasn’t eating much. I’d ask him about it later. A man who I assumed was Mr. Fuentes came in about halfway through.

“My boys!” He said with a smile and hugged both of them at the same time since they were sitting beside each other. “This must be your boyfriend. It’s nice to meet you.”

“Kellin doesn’t talk dad,” Vic told him and we just shook hands. He hugged Tony too before sitting down and eating with us.

Their dad was actually really nice. He made an effort to include me and asked yes or no questions so I could at least give somewhat of an answer. After dinner, Tony went home and the five of us sat in the living room and watched tv. Vic was still worn out from the whole hospital thing and laid his head on my shoulder. Mrs. Fuentes insisted that we should go to bed because apparently tomorrow is going to be a big day. I wasn’t quite sure what their traditions are but I was excited to find out. I helped Vic back to his room where we only argued about who should sleep on the bed.

“I’ll make you a deal,” Vic said and took both my hands in his. “I’ll sleep on the bed if you keep me company.”

“How could I say no to that?” I laughed and walked off to change. I brushed my teeth too and walked back to his room as quietly as possible. I crawled in beside Vic and kissed his forehead as his arms wrapped around my waist.

“Good night Kells,” Vic whispered. “I love you.”

“Night Vicky,” He laughed at his nickname. “I love you too.”

The next morning we were woken up by Mike, who was jumping around the room and yelling.

“GET UP! IT’S CHRISTMAS!” He shouted and I just groaned and buried my head in Vic’s chest.

“Dude, get out of my room, it’s like eight in the morning,” Vic complained and Mike didn’t listen.

“Dad made pancakes,” Mike offered and that clearly got Vic’s attention.

“Dad?” He asked with suspicion in his voice.

“Yup, you know what that means,” Mike challenged. “So if you want any before I eat them all, you
better get your ass in the kitchen.” And with that he ran off.

“Come on Kellin!” Vic said and jumped up just as quickly and threw on a shirt. “Before fat ass out there eats all of the food!”

“What the hell are you two talking about?” I asked sleepily as I got up.

“You’ll see, it’s like my favorite food in the whole world,” Vic was beaming and I just grinned at him.

“Sometimes I worry you love food more than me,” I said and walked into Vic’s arms.

“It’s pretty close but I’d still pick you,” Vic grinned and kissed me before dragging me to the kitchen.
