Even Without Words

Vic

Vic

When I woke up, I was in a hospital bed and I remembered what had happened. All the guy were in various chairs around the room and jumped up when they saw that I was awake. I only had one question though.

“Where’s Kellin? Is he okay?!” I asked as Mike came to sit beside me.

“Kellin’s right across the room and he’ll be fine,” Mike told me. “He’s been sleeping a lot but the doctor says that it’s good for him.”

“Can you pull back the curtains? I just want to see him,” I pleaded and Jesse pulled the curtains back so I could stare at my boyfriend. He was bandaged up in a few places and had two IVs as well as multiple machines hooked up to him. My poor baby boy.

“Uh, Mr. Fuentes?” I heard an older voice say. It was a doctor. “There’s one last thing I need to tell you about. We weren’t able to save part of your leg because it was too badly crushed and lost all blood flow, killing your leg from the mid shin down. We’re going to measure you for a prosthetic once it’s fully healed.”

“Excuse me?” I asked, confused and realised I couldn’t feel my right foot. Maybe it’s because when I looked, it wasn’t there anymore. What?

“I know it’s a hard adjustment but it’s definitely manageable,” The doctor told me. “It’ll take some work
but you’ll be back to running and even playing sports if you want to.”

“What would you do without soccer huh bro?” Mike taunted. I smirked and sighed.

“As much as this sucks, I’ll get a plastic one right?” I asked.

“That is what a prosthetic is Mr. Fuentes,” The doctor laughed a little.

“My boyfriend is the smart one,” I mumbled as the doctor excused himself. I managed to convince the boys to go get some food but only Beau stayed back. They drugged me to sleep again and Beau had a feeling Kellin would wake up while everyone was gone and he would freak when he was by himself.

“Well I can’t argue with that,” I smirked. “Thank you Beau. You’re being so nice when you don’t need to be.”

“I’m not going to lie, I was only being nice to you guys after the Eric thing because I felt bad,” Beau laughed. “And I feel bad now because this was Craig but somewhere along the line you guys all became really good friends and I actually like hanging out with you.”

“Well we like you too so feel free to stick around,” I joked, feeling sleepy. I ended up falling asleep before he could say anything else.

When I woke up for the second time, Kellin was sitting on the edge of my bed so I lept up to drag him into my arms. I cried a little while Kellin and I held each other on my hospital bed. I have no idea how long we were sitting there but none of the guys were around and they didn’t come in either.

“I’m so sorry Vic,” Kellin sniffed as I wiped the tears from his face. He did the same to mine.

“Don’t be, it wasn’t your fault,” I reassured him. “I’ll be fine.”

“No matter what happens to you, I’ll always love you,” Kellin told me honestly. “Even if part of you is missing, I’ll love you just as much.”

“I don’t even care about my leg, I’m just so happy you’re okay!” I made sure he understood that. I honestly didn’t care about the fact that my foot was gone, all that mattered was that Kellin was alive and more or less, okay. “I love you Kells. I don’t know what I would’ve done if you didn’t make it out.”

“Well, you’ll never have to know now will you,” He joked just as the doctor came in.

“It looks like you’re good to go Mr. Fuentes,” The doctor told me. “You’re going to need to walk on crutches for three weeks but after that we want you to come back so we can get you measured for a new leg.”

“Because that’s not weird at all,” I sighed and flung my one leg and the right one, which I decided to call Stumpy over the side of the bed. Kellin had to help me stand until a nurse brought me a wheelchair. They wheeled me to the lobby where Mike was waiting with the car. Another nurse handed me some crutches and I went out beside Kellin who opened all the doors for me.

The drive back was rather quiet, considering I was falling asleep on Kellin in the back seat and Mike was too busy singing with the radio. Horribly might I add. When we got back, I didn’t even really want to do anything so we said a small hi to the guys and Kellin helped me up the stairs to our room. I felt so useless, Kellin even had to help me get changed. I mean, we’ve seen each other before so it wasn’t awkward or anything but I was used to being independent. It was a really harsh reality. I sat on my bed in my boxers and put my head in my hands.

“Hey,” Kellin said softly and rubbed my back. “Vic, it’ll all be okay. I love you, I’ll always love you. No matter what. We’ll make it through this and everything else life throws at us.”

“You know, for someone who didn’t talk when I met him,” I laughed a little. “You say some amazing things.”

“I’m glad you made me talk again,” He said with a smile. “Before I met you, I hadn’t talked in ten years to anyone but my stuffed animals.”

“Awww,” I cooed and threw an arm around him. “That’s so cute! And very flattering.”

“Shut up, it was stupid,” He giggled.

“Nothing about you is stupid Kells,” I kissed the side of his head. “Which one was your favorite?”

“I had a stuffed elephant named Michael once who was pretty much my best friend,” He admitted shyly.

“I had a monkey named Bobo,” I offered and we both laughed.

“God I love you,” Kellin said and kissed me.

“Since when did you get so bold?” I joked and kissed him back. “I love you too.”
