When you choose to be different, that means you give up every aspect of trying to fit in. Rain Parlet does just that. In her freshman year of High School, Rain is constantly tormented by the oh so lovable Jake Barker; the football quarterback. When Rain finally tells Jake as it is, he seems to get the concept of her meaning. That coming Monday, Rain is in homeroom, with a mysterious new figure. When she comes to realization, she notices that the mysterious figure, just so happens to be Jake.
Threw the twists and turns of High School, Rain and Jake find themselves getting closer and closer. Everything's fine and dandy. Then Jake confesses his feelings for Rain, and everything falls out of place. In the future, Rain discovers that she in fact, feels the same way about Jake, and the romance sparks, that is, until they realize that nothing can stay perfect for long.
