The Calm

Chapter 11- 20 Dollar Nosebleed

Austin's POV

I woke up to the sound of the twins crying. I stretched and rolled off the couch and ran up the stairs. I quickly changed the babies diapers and they instantly fell back to sleep. I went back downstairs and saw Alan on the couch sleeping. I smiled to myself, he looked so adorable!

I went into the kitchen and saw it was 7 in the evening. My stomach rumbled, I was starving. I couldn't cook, so I decided on making Ramon Noodles. What could go wrong with that? I got a bowl and filled it with water. I broke up the noodles as best as I could and put them in there, and put it in the bowl for 5 minutes. I sat down at the table and closed my eyes, still sleepy. My phone ringing woke me up though. I saw it was my dad calling.

"Hey dad!" I greeted.

"Hey Austin, how's everything going?" He asked.

"It's going great." I replied, a smile on my face. I didn't know why, but I was in a good mood today. "How are you?"

"I'm doing pretty good." He answered. "How are you and Alan?"

"We're good."

"You should bring him over tomorrow. You talk about him like the sun shines out of his ass. I wanna meet the boy who makes my son happy."

I couldn't help but giggle. "I'm sure he'd be fine with it."

"Good, I gotta get going. Love you, son."

"Love you too dad, bye." I hung up and slipped my phone in my pocket. The microwave went off and I pulled open the door. I was disappointed to find the noodles were as dark as charcoal.

"Want me to make you something babe?" I turned and saw Alan leaning against the kitchen frame. He walked over and snaked his arms around my waist. He stood on my feet and attached our lips. I couldn't help but smile as we kissed and he pulled away.

"Why are you so happy?" Alan asked, also smiling.

"I don't know, just am." I took the bowl of burnt Ramon Noodles and emptied it into the garbage. I turned to Alan once I was done. "Uh, you're meeting my dad tomorrow."

Alan's smile got bigger. "Good, I've been wanting to meet him." He went to the refrigerator and opened it. He scanned it for a while before pulling out some leftovers from the other night. "Want chicken?"

I crinkled my nose. "Not really, I kind of want pizza."

Alan smiled. "K babe, I'll order one." He left the room and went back into the living room. I sat down at the kitchen table, not sure what to do. I glanced down at my wrist and saw the cuts. I was ashamed for what I did. I flipped them over so I didn't have to look at them.

"Austin! What do you like on your pizza?" Alan called.

"Uh, pepperoni!" I replied. "Basically get whatever you want and I'll eat it!" I left the kitchen and joined Alan in the living room. He hung up his phone and set it on the table. He patted his lap, motioning me to sit on it. I giggled and plopped down, and Alan wrapped his arms around me.

"Since this was on our minds and I want to clear it up, sex was great last night!" I exclaimed.

Alan laughed. "I agree. It was perfect."

I smiled and looked down, playing with my fingers. After a few seconds I looked up and saw Alan intently watching me. He blushed and looked away. I giggled and kissed his lips. I loved him so much.

There was a knock on the door. I stood up to get it, but Alan gently pushed me down on the couch and went to the door. The pizza man was there, holding our box of pizza. Alan started pulling out his wallet. I stood up to try and stop him but he had already handed the pizza man a crisp twenty dollar bill. The pizza guy handed Alan a ten dollar bill and the pizza and turned to leave. Alan shut the door and brought the pizza over.

"I could've paid for it!" I said.

Alan smiled. "It's fine." He opened the box, revealing a pepperoni and green-pepper pizza. I shrugged and pulled a piece and bit into it. It was great. Alan plopped down on my lap and laid down as he ate. I made him sit back up.

"You're going to choke if you eat like that."

He rolled his eyes. "Okay dad." He sat up, still staying on my lap, and continued eating his pizza. I smiled to myself, he was so adorable! I finished my slice and ate another. Soon before we knew it, the box was gone. Alan burped loudly, and we both laughed. I yawned.

"I'm going to bed, join me?" I asked.

He smiled and wrapped his arms around my neck. "Carry me."

"Not right now, Alan. I'm too stuffed from all the pizza." I groaned, my tummy starting to hurt. Alan still wouldn't get off my lap. I gently pushed him off and started making my way to our room. Before I could even walk a yard I felt Alan jump on my back. I started to stumble, but quickly caught my balance before we fell. He wrapped his arms around my neck.

"A ginger princess always gets what she wants." Alan whispered into my ear.

I sighed and wrapped my arms around Alan's skinny thighs and we made our way to the bedroom. I dropped him on the bed. I pulled off my pants and shirt, leaving me in my boxers. Alan stood up and did the same. We laid back down, and I spooned Alan, my arm around his waist, are legs twined. I buried my nose into the crook of his neck and quickly fell asleep.

*(The next day)*

Alan and I stood on my father's porch. Alan looked so adorable, wearing a dark blue button-up shirt and black skinnies. I had on black skinnies as well, along with a white v-neck and a leather jacket. The door opened and my father smiled at us.

"Austin!" He greeted. He wrapped me in a tight hug, in which I hugged tighter. He turned to Alan and held out his hand. "Nice to meet you, Alan. I don't recall Austin telling me your last name."

"Ashby. I'm Alan Ashby sir." Alan replied, taking my father's hand and shaking it. I started to get nervous, there was a reason I didn't tell my father what Alan's last name was. Since Alan was a pretty popular murderer, most people knew who he was, my father being one of them. I saw an uneasy look in my father's eye when Alan said that, but it quickly fade.

"Uh, well dinner's ready. Let's eat up!" My father said. He turned and started heading to the kitchen. Alan and I started following him, until Alan stopped after we passed the door. He started taking his shoes off, but I stopped him.

"You can leave your shoes on, it doesn't matter." I said, smiling. Alan put his foot back down and shut the front door and we made our way back to the kitchen. I took a seat next to my father and Alan. My dad had made my favorite, stuffed turkey with garlic mashed potatoes and green beans. I quickly put large amounts of everything on my plate. I saw Alan's plate was made, but he wasn't eating anything.

"What's wrong?" I asked, my mouth stuffed with turkey.

Alan sheepishly smiled. "In my family, we wait for everyone to get their food before we eat anything." I looked over at my dad to see he was putting potatoes on his plate. He smiled at Alan.

"Uh, thank you Alan." He said. I could see my father was taking a liking to Alan. Once my father was done, we all began to dig in. My father questioned Alan, and he answered everything honestly. After dinner, my dad started up on the dishes. Alan and I started heading to the living room when my dad stopped me.

"Austin, can you help me?" He asked. I nodded. Alan went into the living room while I walked over to my father.

"Isn't your boyfriend responsible for all of the murders a few years ago?" My father asked, making sure he kept his voice low.

"Yes, but... you don't understand. He's different now. I swear."

"Seasons change, people don't." My father muttered. "I don't know if I approve of you two. Sure, he's a nice kid, but I don't want him to hurt you."

"Dad! He won't!" I yelled.

"Sh, keep your voice down! He killed six people though, what's keeping him from making you his seventh?"

"We've been dating for 4 months! I think he would've done something by now."

"You don't know that. Whose to say he hasn't yet?"

I looked away, thinking of the day he beat me. I pushed it out of my head and looked back at my father. "You don't understand!"

He rolled his eyes. "Like I haven't heard that a million times. I'm just saying, he could hurt you. And you could do better. You're a doctor who makes good money, and he's just some murderer you found on the road. You can practically choose any girl or guy you want, and you chose a nut job!" I heard something behind me, and turned to see Alan standing there. Tears were filling his beautiful hazel eyes, and he bit his lip hard.

"I uh... I wanted to see if you guys were alright. But I.. I think I'll go." He quickly turned and sprinted out.

"Great, you've upset him!" I hissed at my father. I turned to chase after him, and saw he had already made it out of the house. I threw open the front door and saw he was completely gone.
