Track 13: The Bird and the Worm – The Used

“Georgia!” a woman's voice called from down the hallway.

It was late and Georgia, Cassie, and Ryan were still out in the hallway waiting for any news from Noah. He had successfully gotten out of surgery and the three were just waiting for Noah's parents to give the news to know that he's awake. Georgia's mom came running to the girl who sat on a chair, giving her a tight hug. She muttered something in Georgia's hair about not scaring her like that. Apparently the phone call she made earlier made it sound like she was the one hurt at the hospital.

Ryan and Cassie looked at each other and smiled. Ryan was about to get up and introduce himself to the woman and her husband walking down the hall behind, when Georgia noticed something.

“What's he doing here,” Georgia's voice and expression lowered almost instantly.

Behind her parents came her twin brother, Jordan. The boy hadn't changed much from the last time Ryan saw him. It had been about a month. He was skipping out on school and Georgia was doing the same to bust him for it. Ryan nearly forgot about the incident. How could he since that was when The Grounds gained two new members to the family. Ryan really kept the ugly moose head and singing fish to tick off Cassie, he was planning to take them home after the Open Mic night, but life got in the way.

He looked stronger upper body from the last time, he must have been beefing up for the big game coming up. Homecoming came late this year in Brandon and Seymour, the field they usually played at needed some major updating to accumulate the rise of high school foot ball interest in the area. From what Ryan had been hearing from Noah and other kids at the coffee shop, both teams were dangerously active this year. Rumors were going around that several big shot recruiters were planning to come out to see the local legendary East and West High teams battle it out.

It was a lot of weight on the teams shoulders, but it seemed that Georgia's brother was just fine. He stood at the other side of their dad with his air about him that seemed proud and bold. He scratched at his head with a bored look. Ryan could easily see the resemblance between siblings as he stood there far away from Georgia.

“Whatever, just give me the keys to my car that you stole today then I'll be on my way.”

“Don't you talk to me.”

“Georgia!” their dad snapped.

Jordan's lip curled up as it became clear that he was growing angry. This was where the differences came out. Georgia kept her usual hard look while Jordan began to crack. He stepped forward before their dad completed their sentence getting ready to fight back his little sister. Cassie was giving Ryan a look to do something, but Ryan didn't know what to do. He could just tell a nurse to get security, but besides being loud there was nothing bad that they were doing. Yet.

“What is your deal?! Give me my keys!”

Georgia gave a “pft” as she looked away, “what is this? No swearing? What's with the goody two shoes act? Is it just because our parents are here that you become the perfect little child? What BS.”

“Georgia!”

“Just get out of my face. All of you. I'm waiting for news about my friend.”

Georgia turned to return back to her seat next to Cassie when long slow clapping came from Jordan.

“Oh, wow, what a come back. I almost slightly believed that little frog in your throat was kind of real.”

“Shut up...”

“Come on, Georgia, did you really think that my competition would ever except you as a friend? I heard all about your talks with mom. You've been going to the office constantly for getting into fights with those dumb East jocks. What else were they supposed to think when you went over there?”

“Shut up.”

Cassie called out to Ryan with a weary voice to do something. Ryan left from his seat by Cassie just as Georgia's small tough hands twitched at her sides.

“They're all threatened by me and know that they are worthless against our rising team's power. To think that they could mess with my little sister in order to get to me,” he gave a laugh, “too bad I wasn't the driving the other car. Then maybe I could be the hero to save my precious little sister from the big bad wolves-”

Georgia then screamed the loudest scream Ryan had ever heard from a small body like her's. She charged towards her brother with her fists wrapped in tight fists. The boy may had been a strong football quarterback, but Georgia showed to be the stronger of the two. She punched him right in the jaw, sending him straight to the floor. While the boy was stunned she took her chance and hopped on the boy and continued to punch him. By the time he finally started to fight back, she already had the upper hand.

Ryan and their parents quickly came to break up the girl who was yelling and sobbing at the same time as her knuckles grew more and more red of blood. Security finally showed up throwing the two teens outside, but this only made their fight even worse. Security didn't realize that the fight would escalate as they went to go talk with the twin's parents, but Ryan quickly saw that they were no where near done. Jordan finally took his turn to attack, throwing the girl and him to the asphalt ground. Her knuckles were bleeding and tears were rolling down her angry face something he had clearly not seen before. Ryan saw it in his eyes that the boy was starting to understand why his sister acted the way he did, but those thoughts didn't reach his hand in time.

Jordan's hand was shaking as soon as he realized just what he did.

“Georgia...?”

She wasn't moving. Ryan raced over to the two just as Jordan quickly got off of his sister in a panicked manner. The swollen and bloody faced boy leaned forward taking his sister's face in his hands.

“Georgia...? Georgia, get up... Georgia?”

Ryan finally got to their side and the boy sat back looking at his trembling hands and his sister on the ground. He placed an ear to her chest, attempting to hear ounce of life from the still girl. He yelled behind him to the slow security to get someone to come for her. Ryan placed his hands over her chest and began pushing constantly in order to get her to breath again. He constantly kept checking only to look up to see her brother sitting there with the most terrified look that Ryan had ever seen on someone. Jordan started to mutter glancing at his unconscious sister with tears gaining in his eyes.

“What have I done...? What have I done...?!”

I couldn't think of any song to write to for this so I kept going through so many songs in attempt of inspiration.

I had this in my head awhile ago but now finally got a chance to write it!

Well, originally I wasn't going to end this chapter like this, with more so Noah waking up and the two share a cute moment, but while I started writing this... that changed. I really wanted to show that there is a very bad blood between the siblings. Something that Georgia never really talked about before.

Sorry not a lot about Ryan! I wanted Georgia to get a say some more before we moved things on :)
