Coffee Shop Soundtrack

Cassie ran her hand through her hair and shifted slightly in the uncomfortable chair she had been sitting on for what seemed like forever. Though in reality it had only been a few hours. It had honestly been one of the most stressful and scary days she had ever had in her life. First she gets news that Noah was in an accident and then Georgia and her brother get into that horrible fight. Yeah. Cassie wished like anything that she could press rewind and go back to yesterday and stop Noah from deciding to drive with his friend to school the next day. Then none of this would be happening and she wouldn't be going out of her mind with worry about the two teens she found herself caring for a lot. But what was done was done and she couldn't go back. All she could do was keep her hopes up and pray everything turned out alright.

She was currently sitting alone in a hospital room. Well, she wasn't completely alone, Noah was also there, sleeping soundly in the bed set up in the middle of the room. He had successfully gotten out of surgery but he wasn't out of the woods yet. The doctors said that if he made it through the night and he didn't start bleeding internally again that everything should turn out ok. That once he woke up from the medication they had given him and could actually talk to him about his condition and see just how bad his concussion was, that he would be on the road to recovery. But their was nothing but ifs and Cassie and all the rest of them were sick of waiting and wanted real answers, especially the ones they wanted to hear. But in order to get them, they had to be patient and wait. Something that none of them were particularly good at at the moment.

Ryan was with Georgia in her room with her parents. After she had passed out after the whole thing with her brother Cassie went to grab some nurses to help while Ryan continued chest compressions. They had come in a flash thankfully since they had been in the ER so they quickly got her in a stretcher and rushed her away to get her help. Her brother was taken by security and her parents followed after the golden boy not even bothering to ask Noah's parents, Ryan, or Cassie to keep them updated on their daughters condition. It was pretty clear to all of them who the favorite of the family was. But even if Georgia's parents had asked, they were going to stay and wait to hear what had happened with the girl. Now they had two people to worry about. Though they heard about Georgia's condition first, saying that she had a sever concussion and needed stitches but would pull through. She was admitted to a room quickly and since her parents didn't seem to care, Ryan offered to stay with her until she woke up. They agreed and Cassie promised to text him when they found out news about Noah and he said he would do the same for Georgia.

And now they were here. Each of them in one of the kids rooms. Noah's parents stepped out to go get coffee and try to calm down a little on Cassie's request. She knew that they were worried sick and didn't want to leave their sons side but she also knew that they needed time to get their thoughts together. So Cassie managed to convince them to go take a breather while she stayed with Noah and would contact them if his condition changed. But she knew as well as they did that nothing was going to. The doctors had told them that he would wake up sometime the next day at the earliest, and even that was iffy. But just to put their minds at ease she promised and told them to go and try and find someway to relax. But even after being told that Noah wasn't going to wake up any time soon, each twitch and little groan the boy gave made Cassie nearly jump out of her skin and watch him to see if he would open his eyes. Though like the doctors said it didn't happen. She was still hopeful though. Noah was a strong boy and Cassie had high hopes that he would pull through just fine.

Her phone buzzed in her hand making her jump. When she recovered she looked down to see whoever it was that had just texted her. She saw that it was Ryan's name she opened it quickly, hope filling her as she prayed that it was good news about Georgia. Cassie honestly didn't know if she would be able to handle anything else bad that day and really wished she could fast forward until everything was good again. But unlike her wished abut rewinding also, she knew that it wasn't really possible.

Hey hows Noah doing?

To: Ryan
The same as before. He's moving a bit in his sleep making me nearly have a heart attack each time but he's still asleep. Hows Georgia?

She hit send and then settled back in her chair again, looking around the room that she had memorized since she had gotten there nearly 12 hours ago. There was a tv mounted to the wall but she really wasn't in the mood to even try to watch it. Not that the hospital would even have any good channels available. And she wasn't all that interested in any of the local channels like the news and outdated soap operas and sitcoms with corny jokes. And when her phone buzzed a few moments later she nearly cheered out loud now that she had something to distract herself from all the thoughts and worries she'd been having the whole time she had been waiting.

From: Ryan
The same as Noah. She mumbles every now and then but thats about it.

After she read the text, she was about to press reply when the door to Noah's room opened and she looked up to see his parents walk in. Cassie gave them a small sad smile saying everything that they asked silently. Did he wake up? Did the doctors say anything? Is there anything that changed? But of course nothing had since they had left to get food about three hours ago. She knew that they hadn't wanted to be away that long but she kindly forced them to so that they had time to relax and talk a little bit. Noah's mom handed Cassie a togo cup of coffee and she thanked her quietly as they took the two empty seats on the other side of the bed and Noah's mom instantly took her sons hand in her own.

They all sat in silence for a while until Mrs. Parker smiled sadly when she caught Cassie's eye. "Why don't you go get some rest sweetie? You allowed us to leave for a little while to get some food, its only fair that you do the same."

"No its ok I'm-"

"Honey, all three of us know that you're not fine. We're all a mess after what happened. You're tired and worried and need to get a little rest. Go home for a few hours, get some food in you and some sleep. If anything happens we'll call you as soon as we know."

Cassie was about to decline when Mr. Parker continued knowing what she had been about to say. "Emily is right Cassie, you need some time to gather up your strength. I'm going to insist like you did with us, ok? Please, go home, take a few moments to yourself. We promise if anything happens you'll be the first we call."

Finally Cassie nodded slightly and quietly thanked them. She grabbed her things and kissed Noah's forehead and made sure that his parents promised to call in anything changed. No matter if he simple opened his eye for a second or, god forbid, his condition worsened. They promised with small smiles and she turned and began to walk out of the room. She texted Ryan quickly to tell him she was going out for a bit and if he needed her to bring him anything when he got back. He texted back moments later as she was unlocking her car to find he said no and just told her to actually get some rest and not to over think the situation even more. But they both knew that was impossible. Tough as she pulled out of her parking spot and began her journey home, she hoped that when she would return to the hospital later that night that she would find that things actually were starting to get better. That maybe, just maybe both of the teens would be awake and starting to recover.
