I Just Wanted You to Know

Chapter 11

CH.11 No Title

Mary found herself sprinting through a wooded area. Walkers were close behind and gaining speed. The decaying smell filled her lungs and when she turned to get a better look, chunks of flesh were missing from their face and torso. She was confused and lost. With no recollection of how she got here or what exactly had happened. The cabin she woke up in weeks before came into view. Mary banged on the front door and it opened wide with no one on the other side. When she closed the door behind her the environment changed to the hospital setting she worked at.

The hospital was busy with people, a crowd of people. Scott made his way through the crowd and smirked at Mary, "You learn to laugh yet?"

Mary scoffed at him and rolled her eyes. His normal cockiness shined through with ease, even after she hadn't seen him in a while. He quickly disappeared back into the busy sea of people.

Jeff and Laurie were following the crowd and locked eyes with her.

"You ready to come home?" Jeff asked her with a raised eyebrow. Mary slowly shook her head no. But then again, she didn't know how to come home.

"How do I come---" Mary began to ask but before she could finish they too had disappeared into the crowd. She pushed through the crowd trying to chase after them. However, as she pushed past people it was as if the room was getting more and more crowed.

Suddenly a walker that resembled a man. A man with a crossbow. Daryl. The walker lunged at her in the crowd of people, sinking it's teeth into her neck. Tearing muscle and flesh and she screamed for help.

Mary woke in her tent with a start. She sat straight up trying to catch her breath and her heart pounding in her chest. She placed her hand against her chest in an attempt to slow her heart beat. With a deep breath, she saw that she wasn't home but still in her tent. The smell of breakfast wafted through the air and it was time to begin her day.

She stumbled out of her tent, still trying to shake the sleep from her head. The first thing she saw was Carol hanging clothes up on the line to dry. So she decided, against better judgement, to help her.

With out asking, Mary grabbed a couple damp pieces of clothing. Throwing them over her shoulder and began hanging the clothes to dry. The silence was awkward.

"Where are you from, Mary?" Carol asked suddenly breaking the silence.

"From Texas. I worked as a Doctor at a hospital." Mary replied blandly. Carol scoffed lowly and Mary pretended to not hear her. Maybe Carol was being sincere in getting to know her or maybe just sizing her up. Carol ever replied to her statement and chose to almost ignore her instead.

Mary became frustrated. She threw down the extra pieces of clothing that was thrown over her shoulder back onto the laundry basket, "What's your problem with me?"

Carol gave her a dumbfounded expression. Mary could feel Daryl's stare on her when she became aggressive.

"I am nothin' but nice to you." Mary continued as she hissed, "I feel for you. I am heart broken about Sophia but you should care less about me and Daryl and more about your little girl."

Mary stormed off. She could see Daryl stand up and then sit back down in anticipation of drama. She was headed to he farm house but them made a beeline to Daryl, who was sitting outside his tent (still close to camp). He was looking busy skinny squirrels.

"Can i have a cigarette?" Mary placed her hands on her hips. Daryl looked at her with no emotion, raising his bloody hands to show that he couldn't get them.

"They're in my pocket." Daryl stood up with the bloody hands still raised to not get her dirty. He motioned to his left front pocket. 'Oh geez' Mary thought. How bad did she really want this cigarette? Daryl smirked down at her as she slipped her hand slowly into his pocket bringing her body closer to his.

"Thanks" she replied pulling one out and leaving the carton on the log he was sitting on.

Mary turned to walk away from him but was stopped by his voice again.

"Are ya gonna eat breakfast?" He raised an eyebrow at her.

She motioned to the cigarette, "I'm not hungry." she replied shortly. She wasn't in the mood to talk to him or anyone in that case.

"Yer gettin' too skinny." He hissed with a hint of disgust in his voice.

Mary wouldn't confess to him but with the dream she had earlier and her unique situation, depression was beginning to sink in. It was hard for her to eat when her stomach would do flip flops inside her with every sight of the same squirrel meat and canned veggies.

She chose to ignore him and walked off.

Later in the day, Mary sat on the porch of the Farm house, finally smoking the cigarette that Daryl had given her earlier. She took long, deep drags to savor every nicotine filled breath.

"What kind of Doctor where you?" Lori's voice came behind her and startled Mary in mid breath, causing her to cough uncontrollably.

When Mary caught her breath, she replied, "Internal Medicine, why?" She was a bit curious as to why Lori would suddenly ask her such a specific question.

"Oh i was just wondering," Lori gave a laugh to relieve some of her stress in the situation, "Have you ever performed a C-section?"

Mary turned to her with wide eyes. Taking in her posture and fidgety hands, Mary could tell that Lori was nervous. Mary cocked her head to the side taking another long drag but this time she blew the smoke in the opposite direction of Lori.

"Are you pregnant?" Mary asked in conclusion of her thoughts.

Lori looked taken aback. "I-uh....yea." Lori dropped her arms confessing her secret.

Being a big fan of season 1 of TWD Mary could only guess that it may be Shane's baby and not Rick's. She couldn't help but feel some remorse for her. it's not the baby's fault after all and it deserves a good chance of survival just like the rest of us.

Mary threw the butt of her cigarette to the hard wood floor and squashed it out with her boot.

"I'll take care of it the best I can." Mary gave Lori a warm smile. Although, Lori should have made better choices when it came to sex.

Before the conversation could carry on, the familiar southern drawl could be heard climbing up the foot steps of the farm house. Daryl was carrying a plate of food. Lori quickly dismissed herself and walked past him and into camp.

"Eat." He demanded dropping the plate of food on her lap.

Mary gave him a cold expression to back off. After all, it wasn't any of his business to concern himself with her health.

With out another word, he turned to leave. Mary couldn't help but to catch herself admiring his almost perfect physic. The tone muscles in his arms, made her want to throw herself on him. To be held in those arms and hear his deep voice breath into her ear and star up into those beautiful blue eyes.

A hand waved in front of her view to bring her out of the trance she was captivated in.

"Ahem," Dale cleared his throat catching Mary's attention.

"Dale! Where'd you come from?" Mary exclaimed stuffing spoonfuls of beans and squirrel meat into her mouth.

"Heard your going out with Daryl tomorrow." Dale began, in his fatherly and all knowing tone of voice, "Thought you might need this." Dale handed her a handgun that was locked up in the winnebago, along with all the other guns Hershel didn't want anyone totting around.

"Thank you, I appreciate this." Mary smiled before stuffing her face with several spoonfuls at a time again.

Dale didn't leave quite so suddenly and instead lingered around. Obviously, something was on his mind that he wanted to ask.

After a big gulp and awkward silence, Mary turned to face him, "Something else?"

Dale chuckled, "How'd you know?"

"Maybe i know you a little too well." Mary smiled drawing on her knowledge of Dale from season 1 and how he was in everyone's business and knew about things before most people did.

"What's going on between you and Daryl?"

Mary almost choked on her food. That was the last thing she guessed that he would ask.

"Why does everyone keep asking me that? Nothin is going on." Mary replied a little bewildered. She was confused what other people knew that she didn't know. Mary thought that she annoyed Daryl, and would never really have guessed that he cared for her.

"He's just more calm around you."
