Sauron's Next Target

Pull Back!!!

My hand protested as I swung my sword across an Uruk Hai’s face. I hissed in pain, but right now this was not the place to complain. I had two choices, to be strong and suck it up, or whine, and be killed. Just then, something hard pushed me down, and I turned onto my back, to see a huge Orc towering over me. It raised its sword, and I screamed. Just then, a blade came out of its mouth, its blood splattering, onto my face, as the Orc fell dead to the side. I looked up to see Aragorn pull his sword out, and he smiled at me. A faint smile appeared on my face as well. He offered his hand, and I took it. Aragorn pulled me up,

“Thanks!” A screaming came from behind Aragorn, and before he could do anything, one of my daggers was in its eye. A foul stench filled the air around us, as I pulled my blade out. I nearly gagged at the smell of it. I let go of Aragorn’s hand, and I looked around us. There were ten, even twenty Uruk Hai’s with weapons over their heads. We were surrounded, as my wrist began to throb, and it became even more painful to move it around, but there was nothing that I could do at the moment, for the creatures started to charge at us, and there was nowhere for us to run. Aragorn stabbed the nearest one in the chest, and he turned to me,

“Their armor is weaker! A lot weaker!” I nodded, and I cut the head off from the beast that was closest to me. It fell to the ground, and I whipped around to stab another one in the heart. But when, I pulled my sword out, an intense shot through the burnt area of my wrist. I screamed in pain. There was no way that I could continue to fight with my wrist like this. I saw Aragorn turn to face me, and he killed the Uruk Hai that was coming towards me. In a split second, he saw my wrist, and he yelled over the noise,

“You must take cover! You cannot fight!” I put my sword in my right hand, and I sunk it into the nearest Uruk Hai’s neck. When I pulled my sword back out, I turned back to Aragorn.

“My people are out here. I cannot abandon them now! I can still fight even if I lost an arm or a leg!”

“That’s what we’re afraid of…” He said, under his breath. I glared at him, and he grinned at me, as he turned back around, as he continued to fight for his life. I pushed my teeth together, and I kicked one of the beast’s in the chest. It fell, as I brought my sword down on its weak leather helmet on its head. I brought my sword away from it, and I heard Théoden yell,

“Aragorn, Anneliese! Pull back to the gate!” I heard Aragorn yell somewhere near me,

“Am Marad!” *To the keep!* I turned to my life, and I saw him fighting.

“Taganege Dragon Riders!” *Retreat Dragon Riders* I shouted to my people. I saw Aragorn lead his men to the keep, as he continued to fight on.

“Nan barad! Halidir! Nan barad!” *Pull back! Halidir! Pull back!* I turned to see Halidir still on the wall, nod, and he shouted orders to his men. I began to move towards the keep, when I saw Gimli being dragged away by the men of Rohan, as he was growling,

“What are you doing? Stop it!”

“Oh Gimli…” I thought, as the opening came. The Dragon Riders were already piling in, but I could not see Adlanniel anywhere!

I turned back, and I saw something that nearly stopped my heart. The whole place fell silent to me, and I looked up at Halidir, and I saw an Uruk Hai in front of him, and it had a club in its hand. Halidir didn’t see it, and it hit him in the stomach. He dragged his sword across its chest, and then he stumbled in pain. He looked around to his running men, and he didn’t hear another Uruk Hai behind him. It lifted its sword, and it brought it down into Halidir’s back. I covered my mouth. I finally found my voice,

“NO!” I screamed. I then heard Aragorn shout the name of his friend,

“Halidir!” I began to run towards him, when I saw a blur of brown hair, kill the Uruk Hai that had killed Halidir. Adlanniel! She was alive! Just then, I saw an Uruk Hai come up behind her.

“Adlanniel!” I screamed. She turned around, but it was too late. Its sword already pierced through her fragile body.

“NO!” I screamed. She slumped to the ground, a few feet away from Halidir. I ran away from the ground, and towards the stairs. I killed the Uruk Hai’s in front of me, and Aragorn killed the ones behind us. When we reached the wall, I saw that Halidir had fallen to his knees, and he was looking around. All that he saw were his men on the ground with the men of Rohan, and Orcs next to them. Some of the warriors held off the Uruk Hai’s and Orcs when we got to Halidir and Adlanniel. Aragorn got down, and lifted Halidir up, and I saw how the life left his eyes, as he looked up at the starless sky. I ran around him, and I knelt down beside Adlanniel. She was barely alive.

“You’re going to be okay. Okay? Listen to me, Adlanniel…you’re going to be alright…” My voice quivering. She placed one of her frail hands on my face.

“Like you said, we die warriors. No one can change that…” I nodded, tears streaming down my face, and splashing onto her face. “You are the one who can save us. You are the leader of the Dragon Riders. I can see it in your eyes…” I stared down at her, when the life left her green eyes, as she stared up at the starless sky. My lip quivered, and I hung my head. Tears flowing freely.

“Be at peace…” I whispered to her, and I used my fingers to gently close her eyelids. I saw Aragorn stand up, and he ran towards the ladders. I knew what he was thinking, and I followed his lead. We both jumped onto a ladder, and we fell towards the ground with it. When we landed, the weight of the ladder killed many enemies. We continued fighting side by side. We were trying to get to the door that led into the keep. I was getting extremely tired and fed up of only being able to use my right hand, I was moving slower now, but thankfully we were getting closer to where the gate was.

Suddenly, I was grabbed by Aragorn, and pulled inside the keep. We went over to Théoden, who was yelling orders,

“Brace the gate!” I looked over to the gate, and I saw that it was nearly broken. He then ordered, “To the gate! Draw your swords!” He and his men drew their swords and they went over to the gate, trying to defend it. A guard then said,

“We can’t hold them much longer!” Aragorn and I ran towards them to help. Théoden turned to Aragorn and said,

“Hold them!”

“How long do you need?”

“As long as you can give me!” Aragorn nodded his head, understanding. He yelled,

“Gimli, Anneliese!” He motioned his head for them to follow him. I put my daggers away, and I grabbed my sword.

I knew as well as anyone else did, that small daggers weren’t going to do much against the Uruk Hai’s in front of the gate.
