Six Feet Under The Stars

Six Feet Under The Stars

Vic pulled up to Jaime’s house and honked the horn, signaling that he was here. A few moments later, the front door swung open and Jaime walked out, smiling wide. He was wearing a pair of black skinny jeans, a black jacket, and his favorite red Vans. He looked absolutely amazing tonight. Vic couldn’t help but smile back at his adorable boyfriend; the way he walked, how his face and eyes lit up when he smiled, he thought he was perfect.

Jaime hopped in the car and greeted Vic with a kiss.

‘Are you ready to go?’ Jaime asked.

‘Sure am. Tonight’s going to be great, I already can tell,’ Vic replied, beginning to back out of the driveway.

Him and Jaime were going on a date tonight to the beach. Vic planned this a while back, waiting for the perfect time to go with him. They weren’t going to do anything special; sit by the fire, watch the stars, and see the sun rise. But to Vic, this was going to be the best night of his life, if it went to plan, that is. Jaime had no clue about what Vic had planned besides a night at the beach, but he didn’t mind that; anytime spent with Vic was time well spent.

Arriving at the beach, it was dark and deserted, just how they planned it on being. They went to the back of the car and grabbed all of the things they would need for the night: blankets, flashlights, Vic’s guitar, beer and what not.

They found a spot on the beach; close enough to the water, but far enough to not get wet from the incoming current.

‘We need to make a fire; want me to get some fire wood?’ Jaime offered. ’No, it’s okay. I’ll go get some, you just stay here and I’ll be back in a few minutes,’ Vic said before walking off, but Jaime quickly stopped him. ‘It’ll be boring just sitting here without you, though. Ummm..you go to one side and I’ll go to the other. We’ll both get some firewood and whoever gets the most wins. Cool?’ Vic smiled and agreed, thinking this little competition would be fun.

Vic and Jaime parted ways on the beach with flashlights and started to look. During the time they searched, they constantly were shining their flashlights at each other and laughing. The couple shouted back and forth, stating that they were going to get the most. Returning to the little camp the two guys set up, Jaime had the most firewood.

‘That’s not fair! You got little sticks!’ Vic pouted. ‘There weren’t any rules on what kind of wood, so it is fair,’ Jaime replied with a sly smirk. The older Mexican gave him a dirty look, only causing him to laugh.

Several failed tries and sighs later, the two finally got the fire started and were cuddled closely watching the glowing embers in silence, with the sound of the occasional tide.

‘Jaime, I love you so much.’

He turned to look at Vic, noticing him staring right back at him. Jaime couldn’t help but take in all of Vic’s beautiful features in the light of the fire. His big, brown eyes, how his nose ring glinted in the moon light, his wide, bright smile. Though Jaime saw him nearly everyday, he could never get enough of that beautiful face, or the fact that Vic was his.

Grabbing his hand, he intertwined their fingers together. ‘I love you too, Vic. Always.’

They sat there for a little while longer, reminiscing in past memories, talking about everything and nothing. When it grew quiet again, Vic decided it would be a good time to grab his guitar and do what he was planning on the whole night. To be honest, he was absolutely nervous. When grabbing his guitar, his hands were visibly shaking. Jaime took it as him being cold, thankfully, but it was the complete opposite.

Vic sat down next to Jaime and positioned his guitar to play. The younger man watched him as he struggled to find a comfortable position on the sand. When he finally was ready to play, Vic looked up to find Jaime staring at him with wondrous eyes. He blushed slightly and smiled. He truly loved Jaime; the first sight of him made Vic want to get to know him. After seeing his gorgeous smile and hearing his outrageous laugh, his stomach was full of butterflies. Becoming his friend and getting to know him, he fell in love with Jaime. And now, after 3 years of being together, Vic was amazed that after all this time he was still completely and undeniably in love with him. And it was even more amazing that this guy loved him as well; through all their fights, and his stupid antics, they managed to stay together. And that’s why Vic was here doing this. He felt like they could make it in the long run, he believed they could stay together for the rest of their lives.

Vic began to strum the chords to his favorite song. After a few seconds, Jaime recognized the song and couldn’t stop the big smile forming on his face. This song was their song; the first song they held hands to. They both remember that night so vividly. It was nearly 6 years ago, they went to a The Used concert because Vic was begging Jaime to go with him. At this point, they weren’t in a committed relationship, they were only a slight fling, barely discovering their feelings for one another. At the concert, they didn’t make any kind of moves, they were there as just friends. But when ‘I Caught Fire’ came on, Vic was having such a great time and felt like this was the perfect moment. Though his heart was racing and his palms were sweating, he grabbed Jaime’s hand. Jaime looked down and saw the smaller Mexican had grabbed his hand, his heart fluttered and his stomach did flips. He looked back up at Vic and just smiled at him, never wanting this moment to end.

Vic began to sing the song and Jaime looked at him with starry eyes.

Seemed to stop my breath
My head on your chest, waiting to cave in
From the bottom of my…
Hear your voice again
Could we dim the sun and wonder where we’ve been?
Maybe you and me
So kiss me like you did
My heart stopped beating
Such a softer sin

I’m melting in your eyes
I lost my place, could stay a while

I’m melting in your eyes like my first time that I caught fire
Just stay with me, lay with me now.

Throughout the whole song, Jaime never took his eyes off of Vic. He sang so beautifully, and he never wanted him to stop. His voice was almost intoxicating to Jaime; he barely noticed that Vic stopped playing the song.

‘Wow, Vic, that was incredible. I absolutely loved it.’

Vic smiled at his compliment and was glad he liked it, but that feeling of happiness quickly changed and he grew nervous once again. Swallowing hard, he managed to get out the speech he had been mentally practicing all day.

‘Jaime, I’ve never had these type of feelings for anyone before. I love you so much, I hope you know that. We’ve been together for over 3 years, and those have been the best 3 years of my life,’ he began, lightly grabbing Jaime’s hands and holding them. ‘You’re the best thing that has ever happened to me. I think you’re absolutely perfect, inside and out. It’s hard for me to believe I have someone as amazing as you to call my best friend and boyfriend; I don’t deserve someone like you. But the reason I’m telling you this is because I want to change that.’ He hesitated for a second before getting on one knee and pulling out a small, black box from his pocket. Jaime was caught off guard, but immediately knew what was coming next. His eyes started well up with tears as he watched his boyfriend grab a small box from his pocket. Looking down, he smiled at Vic.

Vic opened the box and looked up at Jaime. Finally, he shakily asked the question that was on his mind all night. ‘Jaime Preciado, will you marry me?’

He couldn’t hold in his tears anymore as they started to stream down his face. ‘Oh my god, Vic. Of course. I love you, I love you so much.’ Jaime cupped Vic’s face in his hands and crashed their lips together. This wasn’t like any other kissed they shared before; it had a lot more meaning and it felt a lot more passionate. Jaime’s hands left Vic’s face and wrapped his arms around his neck while Vic set down the box and put his hands on Jaime’s hips, pulling him closer. They stayed in that position for a little while longer before they needed to breathe again, though neither of them wanted to.

Vic picked up the box and pulled the ring out, grabbing Jaime’s left hand. He put the ring on his finger and Jaime looked down at the ring, watching it glisten in the moon light. A smile slowly formed on his face and looked back at Vic, seeing Vic was smiling right back at him. They could both honestly say they felt in bliss at that moment; after all these years, they were finally officially together, and they couldn’t be happier.
