We Found Love Lost Under The Shade

Chapter 4

When the bell rang for 4th period to be over, Jaime was the first out of his seat and out of the classroom. He couldn't wait to be out of class, and more importantly, to see Vic. His emotions were conflicting and he didn't really know how to feel; he was excited but nervous at the same time.

Jaime reached the stairs and stopped in his tracks. His stomach was in knots and his thoughts were all over the place. He wasn't even sure if he wanted to hang out with Vic. Though he seemed really nice, what if this was just a big joke? I mean, Jaime was a perfect target for people to fuck with. He tried to not think so negatively but with his trust issues, it's hard not to.

He walked as slow as possibly down the stairs and towards the front doors. Jaime was wondering if he should just leave before Vic saw him; would he even remember he had plans with Jaime? But he didn't want to stand him up. He sighed deeply and hung his head, walking quickly. He was hoping he could just get home and not worry about anything.

'Fuck, I'm so awkward,' he said quietly.

He looked up and noticed he was almost to the crosswalk. His conscience was screaming at him to just turn around and not leave Vic hanging, but his legs insisted he kept walking. Jaime felt a small cloud of guilt starting to form over him.

'Hey Jaime!' a slightly familiar voice called. He stopped and turned around to see Vic, smiling and waving at him to come over. Jaime bit his lip to keep from smiling like an idiot and walked over to Vic and another boy, seemingly older than him.

'Hey, Jaime. You still up to hang out?' Vic asked. Jaime felt like Vic was staring into his soul or something so he looked down, jamming his hands into his pockets. 'Um, yeah, like, if you want to..'

Vic laughed at his quiet, timid answer. 'Of course, dude! Oh, yeah, this is my little brother Mike, if you didn't know,' he said, pointing to him. Jaime looked at him and gave him small wave and a quiet 'hello'.

'We should start heading back to my house, yeah? My car's just over there,' Vic suggested, motioning Jaime to follow him. He nodded and began to follow him. Jaime couldn't help but think how weird this was; not to mention how awkward it was going to be. He was hoping time would pass as quick as possible but knew it would only be the opposite.

After an hour, Jaime opened up and him and Vic were having a good time. They played this new video game Vic got and made small talk in between. For some reason, both of the boys felt comfortable around one another, though they didn't know each other too well. And when they decided to stop playing, they sat there in silence without that awkward tension that usually happens.

Vic took advantage of the silence and turned to Jaime. 'So, you moved here last year? From where?'

'Yeah, from Arizona,' he replied. Vic nodded. 'That's cool. Why'd you move here; family?' Jaime shook his head. 'No, just, my parents wanted a change of scenery, I guess.'

'Oh.' Vic turned back and continued to keep the silence. Why was it that they were so much more comfortable sitting in silence but when they started talking it was so weird? He wondered what it was about Jaime that made him so shy. His thoughts were interrupted by Jaime.

'You play guitar?' he asked, pointing to the guitar in the corner of his room. 'Yeah, I play a bit. My brother and I have a band, kind of.'

Jaime smiled and his face lit up at his reply. 'That's actually really cool, I've always wanted to play guitar. Do you write songs and stuff?' Vic involuntarily smiled back at the boy. He was excited that it seemed they both shared a love for music. But he was smiling at something as well; his eyes seemed to light up when he talked about something he loved, and it was adorable; and not to mention how huge his dimples were when he smiled. Vic was wondering what the fuck was going on with his emotions. Since when did he find guys attractive? He wasn't sure what it was about Jaime, or if it was just his hormones. Whatever it was, he couldn't deny that Jaime was definitely attractive.

It was a step out of his comfort zone, but Vic decided to go with it. 'Yeah. Um, do you want to hear a song or something? I don't usually play in front of anyone but my brother...so it'd be cool to get feedback from someone else, you know?' Jaime nodded. 'I'd love to hear a song.'

Getting up to grab his guitar, Vic was slightly nervous. He hardly ever sings in front of anyone, he only does if he's in his room, alone, out of earshot from anyone else in the house. He sat down and fixed the guitar, getting ready to play. Jaime watched him attentively, interested in what he was going to hear.

Vic began to strum the chords and felt instantly calmed; he didn't feel a bit nervous that he was playing in front Jaime, which was strange. He closed his eyes and started to sing the first lines.

Like a rush shot through you

Everyone is watching you

Told you why I see no need for the sun

A love you light is a love soon gone

If this is it, don't bother cause this love is a lie

I'm a chemical kid, you're a mechanical bride

From the moment Vic started playing the song, Jaime was instantly in love with it. He loved the guitar leading into the song, how he seemed to put everything into the song, how he looked when he sang, and most importantly, his voice; Jaime could name all the little things he loved about the song and how Vic sang it. But he couldn't help but think how attractive he looked when he sang; he had to agree that musicians were cuter than the average person. Jaime had to stop himself right there; he might have feelings for Vic? I mean, it's a little too earlier to actually like him, but he wasn't sure right now. It's just something about Vic, he seems so flawless, it was..weird to him. He couldn't seem to pick out anything bad about him.

'So...how'd you like it?' Vic asked. Jaime gave him a small smile. 'It was really good. Like, wow...'

Vic's cheeks turned red and looked down. He was surprised that he liked it; he hadn't played that song for anyone else and was sure it sucked. 'Thanks,' he replied as a smile played at his lips.

The both of them sat for a few minutes before Jaime announced he had to leave, saying his parents might be worried; which was a lie. They said goodbye and they were left alone with their thoughts. Both of them had a lot on their minds; not knowing the majority of those thoughts were about each other.

I'm sorry about not updating in nearly a week; I just didn't have the motivation to write. But since I have a 4 day weekend, I'm planning on writing chapter 5 and having it posted by Sunday/Monday.
Anyways, tell me what you think of the chapter? :)
