No Place for Women

Chapter One

Kila sat on a moss covered log, using a small piece of cloth to wipe all the dirt from the blade of her sword. Though her eyes were on something completely different. They were locked onto her younger twin sister, Calili. Unlike her sister, Calili, stood on the very edge of the field looking at flowers. Kila may not know much about flowers, but she did know that her sister was looking at flowers that she already had in her book.

Calili carried around a large leather bound book where ever she goes, filled with pressed flowers. Some were the same as others she had collected; though the main ones she had in her book were Poppy flowers. The Poppy flowers were her favorite; they had been ever since their first day away from Valinor when their mother was fleeing for Rivendell. Ever since then, Calili had been collecting flowers; most days, just like today, she would even have Kila tie them into her hair as she braided it.

Kila would never say no to her younger sister, no matter what it was. Weaving the flowers into her hair as she braided it was the most Calili had ever asked of her sister since they'd been out on their own.

Hearing something rustling in the leaves behind her, Kila let the small cloth drop from her hand and she quickly jumped up; sword in hand, pointed in the direction of the noise. Calili still hadnt heard anything with how far away from her sister she was; even if she had, Kila doubted that she would've gotten to her bow and arrow in time to do anything about it. The rustling in the tree leaves grew louder and louder until a very familiar figure popped out from the unseen.

"Radagast! Oh I've missed you dear friend!" Kila smiled, moving to hug the older man.

Calili turned from where she had been standing when she heard her sister speaking, and smiled upon seeing their old friend. Nearly dropping her book, she ran over to where her sister and their old friend was standing. Radagast stood alone, as far as the eye could tell, his staff in hand, his hat on his head, and his pipe between his lips. It was seconds before Sebastian, a small hedgehog, jumped from Radagast's shoulder and to her sister; Kila.

Kila couldn't help but laugh as she caught the small creature in the palm of her hand, and lifted him up to her cheek.

"Where have you been recently Radagast? We never see you much anymore; when we used to see you eventually every day!" Calili asked.

"Actually girls, I was out looking for you today. I think it's time for you to go visit your mother don't you think? " He spoke softly.

The girls didn't say anything to him, but they knew that their old friend was right; it had been a long while since they'd gone back to Rivendell to visit with their mother, Rovain, and they did miss her an awful lot. Kila nodded in agreement before looking to Calili. She was already gazing off in the direction they would be travelling to Rivendell.

"Take Sebastian with you to keep you company." Radagast smiled, placing his hand lightly ontop of Kilas.

"Oh, thank you Radagast, thank you!!" She smiled, hugging their old friend before saying their good-byes and departing.

Kila could tell that this trip would make her sister happy. They hadn't seen their mother in so long; and Kila knew about how much Calili missed her. Even though she never spoke, the pain of it was apparent through her eyes. And when she was alseep, since Kila never slept, she always heard her sister talking in her sleep. Calling out for their mother whenever she had a bad dream.

Kila would go sit with her sleeping sister, and sing a song that she heard her father sing to them once to get them to sleep as babies. She would sit and sing:

Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold,
To Dungeons Deep and Caverns Old,
The Pines were Roaring on The Heights,
The Winds were Moaning in the Night,
The Fire was Red, it Flaming Spread,
The Trees Like Torches Blazed with Light.

Though she enver truely knew the meaning, she knew it must've been something important to her father. Sadly after that night, she never saw her father again. She never asked her mother anything of him; but she did know that her mother often spoke of how she looked like an exact copy of him, just a feminine version with no beard. It always would make her laugh when her mother say that. Though it would make her wonder.

How had their mother and father ever met in the first place? When their mother is an Elf and their father was a Dwarf .An odd pair it was, yes; it made her wonder more about what dwarves could be around her at any point. So far, she's never set eyes on one; it made her think about what would happen if she did. If she saw one, would she be like her mom and fall in love with him? Or would she spend the rest of her life wandering around with no purpose?
