No Place for Women

Rain. That's all I could see in front of my face, was rain. I couldn't even see Kila standing in front of me! It had been raining for a while now, maybe about three hours or so, and now we were working our way up the side of the mountain.

"Weren't we supposed to wait for Gandalf at the bottom of the mountain?" I shouted towards Kili.

"Aye, but I guess plans change!" He nodded.

The way our small little group was placed in order; Kili was in front, with myself directly behind him, Kila was behind me and finally behind her was Fili. They decided that we would be safer if they were on either side of us, and Kila decided that it would make her feel better if I were walking in front of her. I'm not sure why, but this made her feel better about things.

"Mortar!!" Dwalin shouted from where he was just in front of our little group.

I looked up, only in time to see a rather large mountainous rock, land against the top of the mountain . The impact caused it to break and began rolling down the mountain in our direction. The ground we were standing on shook beneath us. Kili placed his arm in front of me, and pushed me back against the face of the mountain; keeping me from falling off of the ledge we were all standing upon.

"This is no thunder storm! It's a storm battle!" Balin shouted.

"The legends are true!" Bofur gasped.

I could feel my eyes go wide as I watched a mountain begin to move. It was alive. It had a head, arms, legs, a body, everything! It was alive. That's when the ground began to shake underneath us. A giant crack appeared between my feet and eventaully began to spread. Kili grabbed my wrist and pulled me to one side before he rushed around me trying to grab the others.

"Kili! Grab my hand!" Fili shouted.

"Kila!" I shouted, reaching my hand out to her.

Was this is? Is this the last time I see my sister? Fili had nearly grabbed ahold of his brothers hand when the ledges began to move apart from each other. I felt my heart ache with saddness of being away from my sister; my mind was filled to the very brim with worry. If it'd hadn't been raining I'm sure the men of the company that were around me would see me crying. Kili looked at me, and I could tell in that moment he knew the great deal of saddness that I felt in being apart from my sibling.

Kila's POV

I watched in shock as my sister was carried away from me on a ledge that I knew I would never be able to reach. She look so scared; she looked so broken in that moment. It filled my heart with regret. Regret that I ever took her away from Rivendell when we were younger. Regrret that I ever convinced her to stay with me where ever I go. Regret that I dragged her along on this adventure in which one of us could die. And if she were to die...I could never live that down. I would never be able to forgive myself.

"Everythings going to be okay." Fili nodded towards me, placing a reassuring hand on mine.

My eyes didn't stay on him though. They immediately found the ledge where the rest of our company was. The ledge was swung around in a few different directions; before finally I felt my heart stop when it slammed into the face of the mountain side, just a few feet in front of where we were standing.

"Calili!" I shouted, "NO!"

I pushed past Fili, and jumped over the small gap that was blocking me from her. Everyone was on the ground, groaning; but I didn't see Calili. In that moment I felt my heart stop. I felt as if my heart had been ripped from my chest in every single shape and form possible.

"Kila." A small voice groaned.

My eyes first found Kili, who was pushing himself away from the ground; only to reveal Calili completely safe from harm. My feet began moving without my knowledge. Before I knew it I was on my knees between Kili and Calili. My arms wrapped around her small frame and I pulled her close.

"I thought I had lost you." I cried, allowing tears to flow freely down my cheeks.

After a second, I felt her arms wrap around me; returning the hug. I thought that I had lost her tonight, and that absolutely shattered my heart; but here in this moment, I knew everything was alright. My sister was perfectly fine, no harm had come to her. And it was all thanks to Kili.

When I turned around, I saw Fili with his arms wrapped around his younger brother; I could tell that he was experiencing the same thing that I was in this moment.

Carefully, I let go of my sister and placed and arm around Kili.

"Thank you so much, for keeping her safe" I whispered before kissing him. "It means so much to me."

"How's your arm?" Calili asked, looking him.

Looking down, I saw there was blood covering his arm. Quickly, I reached down and ripped some of the fabric from the bottom of my dress before dressing his wound.

"Thorin!" I called, "We can't go much farther tonight. Most of the company's injured. If you drag them through much more of this tonight then you'll wind up killing someone!"

He seemed to have ignored me and turned to Dwalin; giving him orders to do something. Fili and I pulled Kili to his feet before I placed Kili's arm around my shoulders and I helped him into a small cave in the side of the mountain. Calili was immediately by Fili's side; it seemed that she never wanted to let go of him, and I couldn't blame her for that. It was the same way I am with Kili.

"I have a bad feeling about this place." I whispered to Kili.

"What do you mean?" He asked as we sat down.

I had him lean back against a wall before I grabbed his arm to better tie the make-shift bandage around it. The cut wasn't too bad, he just had to keep the bandage around it, and it would heal just fine. Though I doubt he cares.

"I mean, I get the feeling that we're about to be ambushed." I sighed, "We may just go."

"What? What are you talking about??" He asked.

"Me and Calili. I'm not going to put her through anymore danger tonight; not like I already have. I'm thinking about sending her back to Rivendell. It's not safe for her out here. I nearly lost her tonight, and that just about killed me and not to meantion I nearly lost you when I just got you. I don't want that Kili...come with us when we go. You and Fili. Please."
