Status: Yep. Another Sykes story.

They Say

Nothing but time.

"Em! Brake!" Oli shouted, laughter clearly in his voice as the car jerked to a stop. The girl glared at him and her look alone made him start laughing so hard he couldn't breathe.

"Oli!"

"I'm, I'm sorry. It's just so sad. It isn't that different!"

Emerson crossed her arms, clearly not too happy and he breathed in trying to calm himself.

"Babe, come on, one more try."

"Nope. You can drive." She stated, climbing from the car and he quickly did the same.

"Em." He grinned grabbing her by her waist.

"No."

He chuckled, pulling her to him, "You weren't bad. I mean it."

"Whatever."

He kissed over her cheek and the girl couldn't help but to relax against him. For him, the day had been the best day ever. He had Heather off his back, Emerson was happy (minus him picking on her of course) and all of that seemed to put him on cloud nine.

"Hey, Em?"

She looked up at him with that innocent look he had fallen for ages ago. He gently brought his hand to her cheek, his heart racing from the words he wanted to say so badly.

"I..."

Before Oli could even get out the next word, his phone began to ring violently in his pocket. He immediately stepped back, nerves still flling his gut as he pulled out the phone and pressed it to his ear.

"Ello?" He mumbled and he wasn't surprised to hear Matty on the other end.

"Mate, like, can you believe it?"

"I really don't know what you are referring to." Oli spoke smoothly, his eyes never leaving the girl in front of him.

"The fact that we can now hang around each other with our birds and be normal!"

Oli chuckled as Emerson pointed to the car and he nodded before getting in.

"Yeah, mate. Pretty brill I must admit."

"I know! Like, I'm so relieved."

"Are you saying you miss me and want to see me tonight?" Oli joked and Matt scoffed, "Whateva, but Heatha suggested a double date if you were ok with it."

Oli looked over at Emerson who was messing with the radio.

"Yeah, we can." He stated, a grin hitting his lips, "But I gotta go. Text me with the details."

"I will."

The pair hung up and Oli cleared his throat, "It was Matty."

"Figured. It was getting a bit lovey dovey. Almost asked if you wanted me to get out."

Oli rolled his eyes causing her to laugh.

"Whateva." He smirked grabbing up her hand, "Wanna go out with them tonight?"

"Are you asking me on a date, Sykes?"

Oli chuckled, "Would look that way. Usually boyfriends do that sort of thing."

"Yes, yes they do."

Oli kissed the top of her hand as they drove back to his place. The three words he almost let slip out seemed to be pushed back down. Not that he didn't feel them, it was just not the right time. A parking lot definitely wasn't the right spot either, but at that moment his heart took over and he had no choice. It was the one time he was truly thankful for Matty.

"Will it be weird?" She asked, once they entered the familiar home. The smell immediately covering her with a warm, safe feeling she only ever had with Oli.

"Will what be weird?" He asked, dropping his keys onto the coffee table.

"Being around Heather. I mean, I don't know..."

"I don't think so. Will it be for you? We don't have to go you know?"

"No, I mean, I'm fine, I just didn't want you to be uncomfortable."

A grin hit his lips as he fell onto the couch, "Em, I'm fine. I would tell you if I wasn't."

"You sure?" She asked, placing her hands on her hips, trying to look serious and all Oli could manage to process was how cute she looked.

He chuckled, grabbing for her wrist and pulling her onto him, "I am certain of it. I'm ok with it. Honest."

"Ok." She mumbled and he sighed, relaxing his head against the couch, his eyes unable to leave hers.

She grinned and brushed back his hair before leaning in and placing innocent kisses along his face. The action alone caused him to shiver. He loved when she had moments like this. When she managed to still be her shy, sweet self and yet bold enough to kiss him when she wanted. He grasped her hips lightly as her lips landed on his and the innocences of it all washed away once their breathing picked up, and he laid her back on the couch.

"You make it really hard not to take advantage of you." He breathed against her lips, speaking only to break his mind from the haze she had him in.

"I'm sorry?" She whispered and he chuckled before placing his forehead to hers.

"Don't be."

"We'll, while we are on that topic, why haven't you tried to take advantage of me?"

Oli immediately raised up, his eyes meeting hers as he tried to tell if she was joking or not.

"Do you want me to?" He asked with a raised eyebrow.

"I'm just asking."

"You just bring out a different side of me, Em. I just, want to do this right. I don't know..." He mumbled fiddling with the sleeve of her shirt.

"It's not that I don't want to. Trust me, I definitely do. I just want to make sure the timing is right and I never want you to feel pressured into anything." He added as his eyes met hers again.

"I never have felt pressured by you."

He grinned weakly as he messed with her hair, "Good..."

She didn't bother to speak, the look in his eyes clearly proving he was deep in thought.

"It sounds ridiculous, but I'm just a bit scared..."

"Scared? About what?"

"I mean, I've been with other people you know? I mean, I'm no saint, but I know for certain that I've never been with anyone as innocent as you."

A blush immediately hit Emerson's cheeks and he quickly back tracked his words not wanting her to feel embarrassed, "Emason, by no means is that a bad thing. I mean it. It's truly lovely. Birds like you are rare to come by."

"Why does that scare you?" She asked softly and he brushed her cheek gently, "Just a lot of pressure."

"How so?"

"You ask a lot of questions." He chuckled out and she rolled her eyes.

"As a guy, it's just a lot of pressure, you know?"

"That's silly."

"Yeah, well, maybe so, but it's true."

"Mhm."

He kissed her cheek, before cuddling her to him as he relaxed into the couch.

"No rush, love. No rush." He whispered to her, "We have nothing but time to take advantage of each other."

Emerson chuckled and he pressed his lips to her temple.

"You're an odd boy, Oliver Sykes."

Oli couldn't help but laugh at her words, "Mhm. What can I say? My girlfriend has rubbed off on me."

"Don't know if that's a compliment or not..."

He chuckled, "It is."

She turned to face him, a grin hitting his lips as their eyes met.

"Can I tell you something?" He asked calmly and she immediately nodded.

"I have really fallen for you, Em. I hope that's ok."

"Of course it is."

He chuckled as he pressed his forehead to hers, "Do you want me to take you to change or whateva girls do before they go out?"

She rolled her eyes and a grin hit his lips, "Well?"

"Are you saying I need to?"

"Ha! Hardly. You're beautiful. If you want to go in pajamas I'm ok with it."

She chuckled and pressed her lip to his, "Good answer, Sykes. Go do whatever and we will just meet them at Heather's so I can change."

"Good idea, love."

"Of course."

He laughed and kissed her before sprinting up the stairs.

Surprisingly he felt good about the date. Everything was ok with Heather and he could relax and actually be around people he cared about with any drama. How could he not feel good at this point?

A bit short, but I couldn't find a good stopping point! Besides that, any predictions on the date? Just know, next chapter is one of my favorites. ;)
